I would say do it on a good park jump with spring like conditions if you get a warm ish day.
Smaller hips are probably the easiest to learn on but you might not have one. I you do, decking out gives you plenty of height and a soft landing without traveling forward. It eliminates a lot of the fear of flying forward doing a gainer style flip.
If you can do it on the tramp you can 100% do it on skis. It's the commitment that's the biggest part and just going for it. Honestly you'll likely land, or come very close to landing your first one.
Just make sure you're getting 3.5 or so of height at least to make sure you'll get it around. Don't worry about landing on your head because unless you totally pussy out, it's almost not possible. Make sure to look straight back over your head, arch your back and drive your hips forward coming off. If you want you can bring your knees up into your hands and tuck it for the first try.
Honestly as soon as you do it, even if you'll fall over, You'll be like "Holy fuck this was so easy why hadn't I tried it sooner"
Once you stomp it, keep throwing them all day, I mean you're probably going to want to anyway. Have fun throwing a million backflips a day, being stoked as fuck, and impressing everyone on the lift.
Good luck and viva la backflip
