HOW TO 270 ONTO DOWN RAILS???

honostly i am so scared of 270w, i can do switch 2 tips over to pretz 2 on down rails but i cant 270 onto a down rail on my natural side, how the hell do you do it, tips?
 
the key is spotting your landing as early as possible. keep your head turned so that its leading your body (so that your eyes meet your landing before anything else).

1. Approach is very important for a 270 on. Coming up to the rail, be in the same position as you would for a 360. *note*: this may just be me, but for the longest time , I would ski up to the box, make the 270 perfectly, and fall of the rail same thing happened for about 60 tries, then I got a concussion, but that’s another story. What my mistake was on the 270 was that I would approach the rail, and the motion of my spin would push me in that direction (ie. I spin left, and I would keep falling off to the left). The solution to this problem is to either a) approach the rail farther to the side you are spinning away from (right side, for me) or b) exaggerate number 2 insanely.

2. Pop 270! For this pop, more than any other (“What about 450 on?”… “SHUT UP!”) you MUST differentiate between the pop and the spin. It goes like this: pop, spin. Pop THEN spin. POP THEN SPIN!

3. The spin. For the rotation, a special trick is available, which becomes very useful when you are going on to a long rail. Instead of aiming to spin 270, try to spin 180, and then push the last 90 around. You should be facing just slightly off of straight back, with your feet in ‘grind’ position. While this may not look like much (or may be confusing) this helps immensely, as it slows down your rotation speed. Which means you spin less on the rail.

 
This is good advice I keep trying to pop and spin at the same time and it never works and I just eat shit. I'll try the pop and then spin technique this weekend!
 
make sure you land with the rail directly under your feet, otherwise it'll be hard to keep from slipping off
 
yeah man try that it's actually really good advice. I dont' remember how I learned, but I set it completely different than if I was to do a 360. With a 270 on, the only thing i try and move are my legs. If you set like a 360, you'll have way too much momentum to try and stop yourself from spinning. Pop, whip legs 270 with front leg angled down.

Another really weird thing I used to do is after you land the 270 onto the rail, if you're landing unnatty. Act as though you're grinding regular from where you jumped onto the rail. This might sound really stupid but it helps you feel comfortable while sliding unnatty until you get the hang of it.

most importantly, pop! because you have to get your tips up and over the rail otherwise you'll hit your tips or have to go in with a ton of speed. you should be able to creep onto a rail and still manage an urban 2 on

Spot the rail at like 180. don't think three you will just fall off the rail or and up straddling it. spot the rail than bring the last 90 around. land on the rail, then look at the end like you normally would.
 
Not retarded. It's an awkward and scary trick the first few times you do it. Try and get used to sliding un-natural if you can, you don't have to be extremely comfortable, you just need to mentally know you can slide the whole rail unnatty. Also, even though it's scarier, going faster does help when learning them because you skip a good portion of the rail with the spin, then you slide faster and when you're sliding fast you have to balance less. This obviously makes tricks harder to do, but once you get it mentally you can go slower and work on tricks after you get on the rail. This trick is like 20% skill, 80% mental, you just gotta get over the mental part then you'll be good.
 
over the summer at cam pof champs i had a bunch of 270s on coninuing 270 off but then i tried doing it slow, nutted the rail, and of course most of the down rails there dont have wood inbetween it, mski got cuaght becuase i couldnt see, and ate comoplete shit, i think thats why iam scared shitless to do it again becuase it hurt so much ahhaha
 
work on your ollie, go slower and pop harder. also learn on easy setups and take it to harder ones.
