How the fuck do you learn corks.

I may be 16, but I am a USA gymnastics certified coach for trampoline. Learning all the trampoline skills correctly has made it impossible for me to learn corks. I cannot rotate off axis for my life, please help me!

Thats my fucking point. I don't know how to do shit. I learn my skills the right way, then cant do them off axis.

Watch some YouTube tutorials over & over take that knowledge to the trampoline & practice a lot, you’ll learn on the trampoline & when you feel confident with them on the tramp bring em to the power and practice without hurting yourself

I have tried multiple times. Its when I go back, I back full. Not a cork. Do I have to throw my shoulder or?

360 and 720 onto your back

This is why boomer ass USASA coaches need to retire. You were probably taught some wack ass aerials technique and now it’s programmed into your head to do back fulls.

The cork is a SPIN not a flip. Stop focusing on getting off axis. Just do a bunch of 7s and slowly start dipping your shoulder with each try. Don’t even try to land them just go to your back or something.

And never do a back full again. That trick fucking sucks anyway.

Don’t think of it as a flip. It is 100% a spin.

If you wanna learn you’re gonna have to look a cringe master 5000.

T pose and throw a normal 7 but but instead of turning your head parallel to the horizon, look down slightly. The closer you look towards the ground, the more cork. If your problem is flipping too hard focus on setting a normal seven but look SLIGHTLY down instead of parallel and ***get those swagged out t pose arms to follow the same path you are looking***. Focus on not flipping. If you can back full or whatever just follow those steps and you’ll learn through trial and error. A 360 to backdrop is a good step but follow the instructions above

(I spin left) A big problem I had was I used my RIGHT arm to throw the trick.

Keep that t pose and if you SPIN LEFT, focus on setting the trick with your LEFT ARM and like I said wherver you point that left arm is gonna be your axis. Stand completely still without jumping or spinning and point that left arm like your doing a cork, youll notice it engages your hips. This is ehat cause the cork

Nice NS. Upvote the comment making fun of this guy who is asking us for help. Do you all hate USA gymnastics coaches or something? How does one even form an opinion on something so inane? The guy is simply asking how to unprogram his brain from his former sport. Now I understand why the forums are dying. You guys are all just a bunch of butthurt lost boys who hate on everything. Sorry everyone is being kinda tough on you dog. Thanks to everyone who actually helped him. People on the hill will be much kinder to you if you need help. Guessing most of these kids have never ever tried to cork.

I kinda see what ur saying but no, u trippin. We arent calling OP a joke, being a certified gymnast is a joke when it comes to ski tricks. This thread proved the point that if you wanna be a park skier, don’t be a gymnast because this is the shit that happens. I think you just misunderstood what that guy said

Not sure if him having a background aside from skiing makes him a joke. He did gymnastics, now he's working on his freeskiing. He's just a dude who learned how to spin one way and is now trying to learn a different way. Just saying, we should maybe be kinder to each other or Skierman-type members will be all that remain.

Because social media has made internet forums relatively obsolete.

If you can’t handle a few lighthearted jabs you’re a fucking pussy and the internet is not for you.

A lot of NSers are actually really good IRL

Darn, well, I guess I'm just a no-internet pussy with no opinion on USA gymnastics. Are you guys hating on USA gymnastics cuz of the Larry Nassar thing???

this is the video I remember being helpful when learning them on trampoline. My advice is get good at the 450 to back or whatever and then when you're comfortable send the full thing, it feels exactly the same just imagine rolling over. Then just keep practicing and you'll learn to dip the cork to varying degrees. good luck !

Back fulls are cool as long as you call them a d-spin.

Also, to OP I’ve had a similar problem of over corking to the point it’s an invert. Best advice I got was to set a quick 360 and then open up and grab trailing safety for the second one. It keeps you from flipping because your not throwing all of your mass behind you like a d-spin. Also translates a lot better to when your skiing because corks on a tramp are very different than on skis. If you need to see what I’m talking about watch some crazy Karl cork 7s.

I appreciate the support. Eh being in highschool now, this aint that harsh. I deal with this shit all the time :D. Do appreciate the advice from people tho. Next time at my gym I will throw some stuff into the pit. Will show videos of me throwing.

the easiest way i learned was to stomp 720s first. Then i took the approach of dropping the shoulder of the direction is spin while looking slightly down in that direction as well. On a trampoline id recommend spinning a 7 and then try spinning a 7 but dropping your shoulder and raising the other arm.

For instance, spinning left, drop the left shoulder, raise the right arm and look down and left. It's almost like you are doing a round off if that makes any sense.

No dude, that's the wrong attitude. You do know shit, you just have a different skillset than people who grew up spinning off axis. For comparison, I would love to see anyone in this thread try to walk you through a back full progression, they wouldn't even know where to start.

Anyway, here's a pretty good tutorial, this guy's progression is solid. The key thing to focus on is the 450 to back (the skill he does at 1:15). That's what's going to set you up for a proper cork 7

Next “how to backflip” thread will be like...

“ hey, I’m a cliff jumper and throw quads with a twist from 40 metres up... but can someone please teach me how to backflip on skis? “

to learn most tricks you just have to go for it. you will eat shit few times but you learn more from that than trying to do a ton of progression for it

Very true, but botching an inverted trick like this could be the last thing you ever do. (especially if ur east coast and go whole seasons without a fluffy powder day)

either way, this thread made me feel like I’m not the only dude trampoline training for skiing alone all the time ?

Honestly, I do never have powder ever. Perfect north.

I hate when I Only have one free day to go and it’s totally solid ice.. beats stayin home tho. Riding in shit conditions makes ya better

Lots of toxicity here, yikes. Your best bet is watching other people do it, whether on snow or on tramp. As others have said, it's a rotation, not a flip. Good luck
