How the fuck do the Post office and UPS survive?

This is a bit of a rant, so fair warning:

Seriously, they have some of the worst customer service, and business practices I have ever seen. This is mostly in relation to my Saga preorder, but they have dicked me around before. I am following my package on UPS tracker thing, and on friday it said it had arrived at the local distribution center a few minutes from my house at like 2 in the morning. I figured it would arrive that day, I see the UPS truck go by, so I check on its status again, oh look, still at the distribution center/customer service place. I head down there to see if I can just pick it up, and they are closed at 4 on a Friday. Ok I think, Ill just get it tomorrow. Saturday, I see the truck go by again, without stopping. What the fuck? No truck on Sunday, no surprise. Today comes around, the tracker says delivered to local post office, and my neighbor just got a delivery from them. What the fuck. 3 of there trucks went right by my house, how fucking hard is it to put two god damn packages on the fucking truck. So I go to the post office and ask to pick it up, sense the mail has already come today. What do I get? Oh I'm sorry we don't bother unloading the truck till tomorrow morning, try again than. Worst part is the Post Office doesn't bother delivering packages to my house because they refuse to go down my driveway, so I am going to end up getting it on Wed most likely. My fucking package has been less than 5 miles from my house sense Friday, yet both companies are too incompetent to fucking deliver it, or let me pick it up. God dammit.

I've never had any problems with UPS or the postal service. In the winter they would walk up our drive way to deliver our packages. Maybe it's just your area.

Well, lets break this down.

a) have you actually ever dealt with large scale logistics of any sort?

b) Have you ever seen a distribution center for a major company such as UPS?

c) Im guessing you selected standard shipping

So, even if your package IS at the local distribution center, there are HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of packages. To keep track of these, they generally organize them according to area they are being delivered to, and the time frame in which was paid for. THEREFORE, unless you selected next day, or rush, or etc, than your package does NOT GET PRIORITY! THINK OF IT LIKE A LINE! THOSE WHO WERE THERE EARLIER, OR PAID FOR EARLY ACCESS, WILL GET IN BEFORE YOU!

So pull your head out of your ass, and get over yourself. Your Saga shit will get there soon, stop crying.

They survive because despite your moaning now, you'll soon order more stuff off the internet and they will be paid to bring it to you. The only lesson that they'll learn is that customer service has little effect on demand for their products, so they'll continue to neglect it.

They're government employees that work for such a fucked up, beyond inefficient and poorly run "business" that has been constantly on the brink of collapse and hemorrhaging billions of dollars for years now...what the fuck do you people expect?

You bought the worst/cheapest shipping, thats why this happened.

I had this exact thing happen to me once. I bought something from bc.com (based in SLC) usually the cheap/free shipping will get your package to you the next day if you order before like 5pm. My package got sent to UPS the next day, sat there for like two days and sent to USPS and arrived like two days after that.

NEVER BUY THE CHEAPEST SHIPPING now days UPS just sends it to the post office and they deliver it and it saves you like $2. Always do ground/3-5 day never do super saver or whatever.

Sounds like they shipped it UPS basic. In that case UPS receives the package and on the next business day they give it to the post office who makes final delivery the following business day.. so tuesday arrival shouldn't be surprising...

I usually have pretty good luck with USPS, but UPS sucks. They don't deliver on saturdays when every other company does. I ordered a part for my car last week via UPS and it went through 3 different distribution centers within 20 miles of each other in the state I live in over the course of 3 days to get to my house. The part I ordered came from a town about 15 miles away from my house and it took 4 days to deliver. I ordered a car part via USPS with standard shipping from NH and it got here the next day in MA.

Because UPS doesn't care about some shitty delivery they are making for $10. UPS is a major buyer for the software company I work for and I work hands on with UPS on our system. They are way bigger than you could even imagine. You will survive without your Sage for a few more days.

Now if you were waiting for a Siver jacket that would be a different story.

Sounds like the best solutions would be to go down the street to your local ski shop and support them. Not only do your dollars stay in the community but you get what you want right then and there, without the drama.

OP, USPS and UPS are not the same company. USPS has such poor service because it's a government corporation. I know you received it via USPS because that's how I received my Saga. Also UPS wouldn't drop it at your local post office. I've always disliked USPS, but that's what you pay for when you choose the cheapest shipping option. UPS and FedEx will treat you much better.

You are wrong, check your tracking numbers. When you run the tracking number Saga gave you, it will bring you to the UPS website, not USPS. UPS delivers to USPS because they are generally to fucking lazy to drive shit to your house.

I stand corrected.

I just glanced at the label on the package and it said USPS. Weird that they do that. Sorry man, wish I could have been more help. FedEx is my favorite courier though.

Think about this

UPS is responsible for delivering on average about FIFTEEN MILLION packages and documents DAILY. Some of those have to be shipped across the country in LESS THAN 24 HOURS. That means going from a business on to a truck then to multiple distribution centers before being loaded on to a plane where it is then put back on a truck and goes through more distribution centers before getting to you clicking refresh so you can try on your saga shit and post pictures of it on the internet.

All of this means that if they completely fuck up on FIFTEEN THOUSAND of those packages, the delivery success rate for that day is still 99.9%.

I know you're annoyed but if you spend 10 seconds thinking about the logistical wizardry of UPS, it is nothing short of a fucking miracle that you can get your god damn oversized clothing within less than a month of ordering it.

Ive had only good experiences with UPS. Almost always on time unless it comes early. USPS on the other hand is always a bad experience for me.

Well USPS operates at huge losses every year and is subsidized by the government every year. So technically it as itself is not surviving.

UPS and FedEx on the other hand have proven that a privately owned shipping company can generate large profits. Yet somehow the USPS is still in business wasting our money when they should be made private.

I know this doesnt answer your question at all but its an interesting topic.

Given that I have had hundreds if not a thousand packages shipped to and from the USA using the USPS, and had a grand total of zero lost, I am actually shocked at how competent they are. It's absolutely incredible that they could manage a 100% success rate over a sample size that large. I mean, knock on wood, because for all I know the skis that are en route to me will now disappear, but imo they're very, very good.

UPS, I will never use, because they are liars and thieves. Charging the shipper for postage and the recipient for brokerage (usually twice again the postage) is extortion. Fuck UPS.

This goes to show how inefficient they can be... I live in southern Ontario (ON)

follow the line from the purple and you will see what I mean

Went to the post office to ship a package and the guy was very rude he literally called me out on my "blue tape". Not that I care but still

The USPS is one of the worst companies run todayif you can even consider them a company considering they take massive subsidies by the government. Classic example of union workers who for the most part are some of the biggest slackers in the world. Really makes sense considering they have massive net losses every time they report. Unfortunately we can't get rid of them quite yet since there really isnt anyone to replace them.

you're clueless bruh, it's called hub and spoke system. makes way more sense and is way more efficient to ship everything to a central distribution center and then to its final destination instead of having thousands upon thousands of direct routes.

Also, are you seriously that upset your new gear came 3 days later than you WANTED? you cant even ski for over a month...

You're the one who bought super saver shipping and didnt read the details, UPS/USPS didn't do anything wrong.

Sorry for the double post, but just wondering how many of you who haven't gotten all your Saga shit yet have this on the tracking information?

Seriously. This thread is ridiculous. You get what you pay for and if it wasn't for the other parcels, things would be so much more expensive. Fed EX and UPS combine to move 6.5 billion packages a year. Systems are designed for a compromise of cost and time. Fed EX has over 600 planes. Only 3 other airlines have more planes one of them being United.

If you want faster or better shipping, you can pay for it.

So I don't know what stupidity you're talking about, I don't think you understand how insignificant your little package is.

not necessarily. i wouldnt mind if a fedex dude tried on my saga before it came. sure it might be a little rinkled but its definitely not broken

Don't even get us Summit County kids started... first off u need a different address for each service (USPS has you write 3 different addresses depending what kind of mail!) and when it comes from West of Colorado, it goes THROUGH Summit, down to DENVER, then back up to Summit (usually a day later)WTF. SKIER PROBLEMS.

You're nearly member 200,000, your opinion is irrelevant.

I'm not the first to say this, BUT NEXT TIME READ THE FUCKING SHIPPING DESCRIPTION.

Whenever a parcel passes through multiple carriers, such as UPS to USPS, it will go SLOW AS SHIT. UPS Mail Innovations? FedEx Smartpost? They all suck, relative to next day air. And guess what? That is why you paid a low price (presumably) for the service. Live with it, bitch.

Gripe about USPS because it loves to lose billions per quarter, but god damn it moves shit fairly well. UPS? FedEx? They move shit well, too.

When you get in to 9th grade and the teacher asks you to write an essay about "things you take for granted," make sure you include shipping logistics and your mom's credit card.

Across the country and 5 states, multiple packages, a few from overseas, Ive had no problem with USPS / Fedex / UPS. If there ever was a problem, it was the shipper.

Oh and the post office in mammoth takes 30 years to send a package.

If you're in Ontario then you have to realize that international shipments need to be cleared through customs. I'm willing to bet your package was one of many making its way across the border from saga, and thus was sent to a big canadian international hub. From there it makes its way regionally, then locally.

And yes smart post/integrated companies stuff SUCKS. Terribly terribly slow shipments

Seriously that fucking smart post is the worst.

It took them 13 business days to get a package from NJ to NY. Unreal.
