How sick would this be

one of my dads fishing mates has bought a fishing lodge near Smithers in bc. fishing season runs from april to october there and he has no interest in skiing so our idea is to take it over in the winter for heliskiing, sleeps eight people, if we could find a heli business and some guides to take on then we would be away. I would cook and clean and do everything for the customers for free as long as i could jump in the heli with them,

the only thing it needs is some (alot) financial backing from the parents, they are not overly enthusiastic at the moment tho

ya that is a sick idea, except it would be super hard to run. you need permits adn stuff for all that, plus people to come and use it, you would need a lot of advertising. but it would be sick to be able to use it in the winter anyways with you and your friends cause you could hike it or use sleds adn still have a great time

never been heliskiing with respect to running it, its not going to happen, too much money to startup, finding guides, helis, customers etc

however if everyone at ns put 5 quid in then we might be going somewhere. then we could have a comp. best thread gets a week, best video, etc.

dig deep guys

in the meanwhile i'll just dream

out of interest has anyone skied near Smithers?

It could work, only a short flight or longish drive from vancover (international airport) it is meant to be a luxury lodge, therefore attracting the super rich therefore money to be made.

However, how do you market yourself, clients might not be too pleased to hear its been run by a 21 year old and a 20 year old whose only previous work has been the odd month here of there in london, also the bank might have some issues with it.

Best hope would be to go out there in feb sometime and have a look at the feasibility of it all, just a week in feb and a heli sounds insane in itself

i think that there is prob too much snow for snow mobiles, agreed helis are expensive but in my mind there isn't much choice

yo what about cats instead of heli? it would probly be way cheaper, and you wouldnt have to ahve as many permits and stuff, plus cats can still get you to sick skiing

well you could just start with people who you know and get those people to tell other people, but it would be very difficult

I'm gonna get involved here as ipswich and i are brothers and this could be me too. i say COULD, its all looking pretty unlikely at this point. if anyone's got any great ideas they'd like to share at this point they'd be welcome.

i think we'd have to start as a cat op as this would require much less capital up front while still good access to terrain. maybe get heli access later. i would also like to market it as a real freeride destination rather than a cmh clone where rich old men "plough" 20 degree powderfields. i.e. try to get sick pillow/tree lines in play and some steep tech terrain up high.

to attract a client base for this type of skiing it would have to be super affordable. the big question is, how do you provide sick cat skiing skiing that real skiers can afford? like i said any great ideas welcome.

um, i think we'd run out of money pretty soon. and as he said, it belongs to a friend of our dad and he wants to make money in the winter.

i think initially it may be a good idea to use cats and try to get in rich business men with no idea. get a bit of capital together and when we can afford it then go into helis
