How old were you when you started riding park and am I too old to start?

y cant you ride park skis on greens and blues? i have ar6's and shit i look for pow any chance i get.

also, do you have fun in the park? if so do it if not then do something else. just dont be that guy to sit on the landings

it doesnt matter if soemone says youre too old, if you have fun doing it that should be all that matters.

but yeah i would learn the actual skiing thing before you start huckin jumps and hitting rails.

i feel im a good skier, im about same age as you. used to ski a lot in high school and just got back into it last year. if some kid came up to me in the park and told me i was too old i would probably whip out my dick and piss on his skis

hecky naw homie, I'm older than you and just started in the park. been skiing my whole life(except for those couple years snowboarding in the 90s, but we dont have to talk about that,k?) I suck in the park, but its so fun. I love being in the air. I wish to god they would have had half the features back in the day that they do now. but its cool. def get some protective gear, and just shred. see you out there!
and yea, way to be NS, being all positive and shit!

just went to killington and was with a guy about 50. he was hitting rails, jumps (flat landing all of them. we couldnt figure out how his old knees were holding up) and halfpipe. He was more about going to hit the halfpipe then all the younger guys were.

i'm 27 and just got into park about a year ago. i started skiing when i was little(5ish) but took about 10 years off till recently. you'll get some looks every now and again but it's all about having fun so don't worry about it. some rules to remember:
1) don't buy a round of drinks for people in the park if you land a sick jump...they are probably underage and you will go to jail. just split a 6 pack in the parking lot discretely.
2) don't flirt with any girls in the park...they are probably underage and you will go to jail. wait till their moms come to pick them up then hit on the moms.
3) falling hurts more when you get older. drink beer and whiskey and the pain will go away.

Wow... this^ (I drank 3 beers and some wine because my body was killing me).

Anyhoo, I went all day on Saturday and made some progress. I went in the beginner park to practice some rails and butter boxes. I went last month and the rails and boxes were flat (on a small ramp but you could safely slide across and glide on some snow when you exit)... but now alot of snow was melted near the exit of the boxes so they basically became launching pads when you slide off the box.

Awesome thing was I never fell on the rails/boxes (went about 10-12 times) and also hit several small jumps landing most of them... but they were small (most hangtime was ~3 seconds) Took a couple bad spills when jumping off the boxes (I'm like, "Eff it" and tried to jump as high as I could off the boxes). Got a big bruise on my hip but whatev and hit my head on the ground but I'm fine because of my helmet.

I also practiced riding switch on green trails.. I can turn around and steer myself but I can't turn back to the normal stance. Meh, I'll work on it. Then rode with my hips lower than my knees to gain some balance. All in all, spent about 15% in the park and rest on mountain. The Line Anthems really made a difference (real buttery and handled very well on the trails, awesome ski) teamed with PX12s and the Salomon boots, made my learning a little bit more easier. At first, I felt like a poser (I bought a really big Oakley Battalion coat online but got too lazy to return it so I just wore it with my baggy Titanium pants) but atleast I had a few skills.

I live in Illinois and the only decent mountains are 3 hours away so I tried to make the best of my time... too bad I caught it at the tail end of the season. Oh and thanks for the replies to this thread, reading them at work really motivated me this weekend. I only have 3 days of skiing under my belt but that'll definitely increase in the future. Thanks again.

I started when I was 8, did it for 4 years got pretty good then my parents made me quit and take up racing. Hoping to get back into it soon though. I'm still not as good as I was as a twelve year old quite sad.

Klaus Obermeyer skied park well over 80 years old. 540s, etc... Plus he did the "Bavarian backflip" on a snowmobile. You are never too old to pick up park until you are too old to be alive. Because then, you are dead.

how old you are really doesn't matter, just ski the park for a bit and other stuff maybe some BC and then just ski what ever you want, what other people think doesn't matter at all.

I started skiing @ 14 years old and doing park @ 15 years old. Its about your confidence in yourself. If you dont think you can do something, than you can't. Shit doesn't just happen.

i messed around in the park when i was about 10, but i didnt start spinning and rails till i was 16. as far as age goes, some of the best guys are mid to late 20s. all i gotta say is getting better at all mountain skiing should definitely come first, because it really helps you gain confidence and smoothness on your skis. but if you enjoy it, go have fun in the park! its a blast :)

Duuuuuude no way bro!!!

I'm 28, and have had reconstructive back surgery and I still ride park about 5hrs every single day. I've got 3 of 4 pretzels (which I just learned this year) and everything all 4 ways up to a 2 way 9.

Granted, I'm sore as fuck every day, but if you just go in and learn at your own pace then you're never ever too old man. You're only as old as your soul!

Get in there and TEAR IT UP!!!!

Good luck!
