How old is too old to give away?

I was recently going through some of my skis in my garage to clear up some space, and with some reluctance I messaged my old college ski team via instagram to see if they had any team members who would be interested in some free, reasonably used skis.

I also asked them if they had any need of boots, gloves, jackets, goggles, helmets, etc, as I’ve been getting space cleared, and this stuff would either be going to them or to the local thrift shop. (All of it is circa 2007-2017)

fuckin radio silence on their part, going on 2 weeks now. However, I have gotten emails from the team asking for monetary donations in the intervening time.

I get that stuff from the late 2000’s, early 2010’s is going on 10-15 years old now, and I get that not everyone is down for previously used equipment, but I’m pretty sure that when I was in college I would have jumped at the chance to grab some free used shit, even old free, beat to hell straight skis that can be either trashed or made into a shot ski.

I’m always on shopgoodwill or Craigslist finding older skis that I don’t need but i

seem to buy anyways (liberty genomes, K2 hellbents, original bentchetlers, etc), so i personally don’t see anything wrong with a ski that’s got some mileage. I don’t think

im gonna be able to push them any harder than the team pros did the year the ski came out.

what’s the current NS take on old free shit? Are the young people here uninterested in skis that might be as old as they are? Are the OG schmies K2 Public enemies not a desirable urban rail ski at this stage? Am I just an old fart who wants the good old days back?

What’s your limit on how old a ski can be before you don’t want anything to do

with it?

Vintage skis are now collectables. If the skis is really to bad, a few members will use them for chairs, fences… that stuff.

The gear in good shape can be downgraded to street skis, or rock skis. They can me lend me skis too.

Someone will be stoked on getting this off your hands

Any skis are better than no skis, especially if they're free. I know my ski club definitely has some old beaters they rent/ let folks borrow.

some of those skis are almost as old as me and i would love to have a pair that i can thrash. I really need some rock and urban skis. it would also be really cool to ski a piece of freestyle history especially since i wasn’t in the game back then to experience any of it. PM me if you want to work something out with that.

They're tweakin if they won't take those. The skis look like they're all in decent shape. What length are all of those?

Rossis are 176 and the middle armadas are 171.

Another old fart here, but those 2008 JJs looks to be in great condition with only one mount... I think the tail is 1cm taller than the tip for those switch landings in the deeps. OG armada Ultra Lite core too... ( i had the 07s) 10 year for JP coming up in sept, which is crazy, so they are gonna be collectables eventually if not already.

Everything looks in great skiable condition id say. could easily get $100 a pair i would think at a swap or gregslist.

the JJ's were hands down my favorite ski of the era. beyond some minor base damage, this pair is in pretty stellar condition

props to all the posters who shot their shot regarding paying for shipping- I respect the effort, and you miss every shot you don't take. all 3 pairs of skis should be at the Cast-off in mammoth lakes, proceeds of their sales go to the hospital-auxiliary through that store. sorry for the late reply to the thread, it's been a gnarly week work wise.

I guess i was just kinda blown away by the lack of interest from the kids currently on the team. I've had similar experiences trying to gift off old camping gear and surf stuff- been told that unless it's pretty much new people don't want it/ would prefer to buy new. just a weird mindset.
