Hey, i was just wondering how often you should work out. at the moment im doing weights every other day, and on the inbetween days im doing core/situps/pushups. Is this too often? ive heard that if you do weights to often you can actually lose muscle mass. help would be great

you need time for your muscle's to tear and repair themselves. so 3 or 4 maybe 5 times a week sounds good

that should be fine it also depends on what your goals are and what muscle groups you are working out each day

i go to a group training session twice a week for an hour, mondays and wednesdays

been there for two months, body fat dropped from 18 to 14.8%, seriously that kind of stuff works

I'm sure you won't lose muscle mass working out a lot, but if you really want big gains get a LOT of sleep in between work outs, lift something like 3-5 days a week, and don't work the same muscle groups two days in a row, try to do like:Day 1: LegsDay 2: BackDay 3: Arms and shoulders
Something like that, if you give the groups good time to rest, and work out steadily and with dedication (and hard, none of this going to the gym for an hour and not breaking a sweat shit) you'll see huge gains
And there is such a thing as overtraining, but it really is pretty hard to do... most of my days are "two-a-days" where I will run in the morning, and erg (rowing machine) in the afternoon, or run and lift or something and I'm fine...

you should only do weights like once or twice a week, especially if you're growingjust like run and mtb and shit, that gets me in the best shape, and then core exercises also

You're gonna get a different answer from everyone but I'll give you my two cents.

You can lift every day, However you cannot lift the same muscle group everyday. If you are really getting a good lift in you should wait 6 days before you lift that muscle group again unless you are taking a supplement then you can lift again after 4 days.

Here's my program. I'm trying to gain lean muscle and stay fast. I run a mile in 4:52 but I can only bench 135 10-8-6 times. I'm about 170lbs.

It's a mile from my apartement to the gym so i usually run or ride my bike there.

Monday- 4 or 5 chest execrises, 3 forearm exercises, 3 abs exercise (around 3 sets of 10 for everything)

Tuesday - 4 Shoulders exercises, 3 back exercises, 3 abs exercise (around 3 sets of 10 for everything)

Wednesday - 6 or 7 legs exercises, 3 abs exercise (around 3 sets of 10 for everything)

Thursday - 3 biceps exercises, 3 triceps exercises, 3 abs exercise (around 3 sets of 10 for everything)

Friday - 20 mile bike ride (on a fixed gear bike which only has one gear and no free wheel so you have to pedal the whole time no coasting)

Saturday - 5 mile run (at about a 6:15 pace)

Sunday - Off

your right, everyones gonna give different opinions, in my opinion i dont think you need to wait 6 days for your a muscle group to heal properly, thats usually how people have their splits set up though. but if you wanted to you could train a muscle group within 2 days of rest, just listen to your body and if you are training hard give that muscle group a good 2 day rest and prioritize yourself ( dont go into the gym every day and do curls and bench press because you wont grow)

my high school has a full weight room so i just go workout after school and i usually push myself pretty hard for like monday tuesday wednesday then usually my muscles are soar on thursday and fridays so i take them off

seems to be wotking so far

not true, if youre training them hard enough. its different than using them in you're every day life to keep youself upright compared to weight lifting. but they are up there with the calf muscle as some of the fastest recovering muscle groups. but i recommend training them every other day, tops. and dont just go and do crunches. do something like 3 sets of leg raises, 3 sets of v-ups, 3 sets of bicycle kick and 1 set to failure (as many as you can do) of crunches. thats a good ab workout that you can do 3-4 times a week
