How often do you break your poles?

About how often, per season, do you break a pole or both poles? I think I'm the far end but I'd like to see.

I think my poles must be made from some mythical material because I just keep bending the crap out of them then just straightening them out with my knee. They're still going strong after a few seasons

Never broken MY poles, only time ive ever had to replace poles was when i grow out of them

I managed to snap a pair of someones dodgy (and expensive) adjustable carbon fibre poles when i crashed, never really saw the appeal of them and seeing them snap so easily just sealed my judgement on them, aluminium all the way

About a pair every 2 seasons.

But if you count all the times my friends and I have broken poles doing silly hood rat things, then about 10 pairs per season

Never snap them, but I lose baskets a lot.

Lost both baskets from my Armada poles and their customer service was total shit, never emailed or messaged me back for replacements, so I just threw those things in the trash.

Liftees lose their minds when you are missing even the slightest part of a basket.

None, I keep losing them in the woods!!! Its super annoying to tomahak in the steep trees, but to have your pole get caught in the trees on the way down is worse. Since they are much cheaper than skis, I just leave them and maybe try to get them in the spring.

This is the solution to never break a ski pole at a reasonable price. 60$US is a fucking steal. Had these for 3 seasons, the under basket is breaking off. Composite poles are the best quality/value on the market, they bend naturally and regains its form.

i alwaya get mad and hit them against rails and stuff. usually about 1.5 per season. .5 because my new pairs are always bent significantly by the end of the year

Never break my poles. Have had a pair of those carbon ones that bend for like 8 years now. Things are impossible to break. Well worth the investment.

Pro Tip:

If you heat them up before bending them back they have much less chance of breaking.

I've never broken my own poles, but crashed in into a friend off a rail and broke one of his new, adjustable, carbon Joystick poles... I felt pretty terrible.

Since I only ride park... My poles aren't really a big help its just for style. I barely use them for speed anyways! Hope this will possibly help.

Same here, I used to fuck up poles non stop. Then I got some composite poles. I'll never go back to aluminum. I'm on my 4th season with these bad boys.

For some reason there's this weird thing that people do. They lean their poles on the side of the rail, then jump on them and snap them in half. I've seen people do this 4-5 times now with relatively new poles. After they break them they just through them into the glades.

for whatever reason me, my mom, and my dad all bough carbon fiber poles a few years ago. We've all lost baskets 5+ times a season, and each pair of them snapped. We got 3 pairs as replacements and they snapped too

Good call.

Heat gun is the best way to do it if you have one.

Over the stove does the trick, but its a bit ghetto and you can get paint on the stove. Still works though.

I've broken my poles on the first day of the season 5 years in a row. It's the most frustrating thing ever. That's like the only time that I break them too.

join the no pole revolution. so much better but if you're not good at it you'll look like an idiot

Oh shit good to know, I managed to break three pair of those cheap aluminum poles last season. Broke one on the first day and of course to end the season broke one on the last Always sucks to ski the rest of the day with just half a pole

It's just kind of tricky when I'm on the hill with a significant amount of time left in the day and it happens. I have a propane torch I could throw in the car I guess, that should work

One season I went through 8 poles. The third time it happened I came out of the woods, went to push and almost went down. I look and the only thing left of my poles were the grips. After that I said fuck it and just ended up taking rental poles.

Yeah I mean you can do it on hill no problem, the thing is you risk the steel breaking. If you're totally screwed just do it, but the best thing to do is wait until you're home and you can heat them up and bend properly. Depends on how much you care about your poles.

True, I'll try the heat next time, thanks. I'd rather not have to buy new poles if I don't have to haha.

Yeah tight. I mean most of the time bending them back on hill works. However that one day you do it and the metal isn't happy... snap and you're done.

Heating always works. If you have a torch at home that would more than do the trick.

I use old ass poles that are bent to shit, might replace them for aesthetic reasons soon, they work fine as poles so I haven't seen a need to replace them
