i'm new to waxing my own skis and was wondering how often you guys usually wax your skis ? are you really just suppose to go by feel ?

Idunno but i wax mine once at the begining, in the middle(like feb) and then nearing the end for the final few times i go up.

depends how much you care for your bases, and how much you care about speed

I do it every couple of days

I can feel a lack-of-wax after a couple of solid runs of skiing. I try to wax every time I go up skiing, but sometimes that's really hard to do, so on average I do it every weekend.

Just think about how much friction is applied to the base of the skis during a full day of skiing, a small layer of wax is not going to last very long. Try to do it as often as you can.

i always hot wax i like to put a nice thick coat on and let it sit over night and scrap it in the morning before i go up

thread jack: do you need to wax if you just ski park? I started skiing last year, I bought used skis on eBay and skied for about a month and never waxed them... that was probably stupid huh?

umm no?

a good hot waxing job (meaning prepping the skis when they're new with lots of hot wipes) will last an entire day. at least.

but yes if you simply drip on smooth out and scrap it might last a few runs.

man i deff dont wax my skis enough.. what kind of wax do you guys use to wax after every few days or so? and how do you apply...

link to the product would be great

Yeah for sure you should, all that beating on the bases can be bad for the skis, waxing them can fill the small wear and teared up cuts and scratches on the bases plus it will just feel better when you ski

You are trying to inpegnate wax into your bases not put a layer on them. New skis can be hotboxed or repeatedly waxed and hot scraped with a base prep or warm wax to hasten this. Base cleaner is harsh on your bases. A hot scrape with warm wax will draw out dirt and impurities without harshing your base. If you want to be fast a good structure and repeated waxings is the way to go.

That or steeper terrain

Repost. But I wax my skiis every 3-4 days.

Answer to the guy about park skiis. Yes you should wax your skiis for rails and parks it'll make your inrun smoother and you slide better on rails. Also I doubt that all you do alll day is rails and even just skiing to the lifts its not good to have your skiis dehydrated.

You should never let your skiis start to turn white due to dehydration. If they're going white they definately need a wax.

Depends what you're skiing too. I only have to wax my hellbents a couple times a season cause wax is nowhere near as important in powder.

id say every 10 times you ski ideally for park/powder. last year i only waxed em twice though, and yea they got pretty slow.

Ideally, if you wax well, meaning you do everything rite, and try to leave as thin a layer of wax as possible, it should last around 2-3 days. the reason for a thin layer is leverage. the less wax, the harder it is to get pryed from your bases. that said, im really lazy and do it once every 7 days, something like that. but dont do that.

You know I just came to the conclusion that 40 sumthin stoner hippie skibums that ski pow are pretty much a minority round here.

i go by feel when they start to feel the need for it but i plan on doing it before or after every day i ski this year

word, im just glad i read your post above so now i know im doing everything right. i like to wax a lot anyway, like usually 2-3 times a week. i love to just chill on the porch and drink a beer with your friends while everyone tunes up their gear for the next day....so fun.

i wax my skis pretty much never. I do it on my mogul skis like once every month and maybe a couple times a year on my park and pow skis.

when you fell it goes slower, then wax it again. ill recommand the "rode" for warm temperatures, it last mutch longer than swix. its becouse rode is mutch harder, but take the wax off before its cold!

I usually try to wax my Bluehouses after every time I ski which can be difficult because I ski 3-4 times a week. I'd say that you should wax them after every time you use them but that can be hard so wax them after every two or three times you use them. If you're just using the skis for park then that should be good but for anything else I would try to wax after each time.

I've have been racing for 13 years waxing is import to do once a week also at the end of the seson hot wax them down and don't scrape it off you'll have a 3 in protetion layer for your skis>

I know my spelling and gramer suck.

depends on what type of wax you decide to use..... if u use high quality stuff..... every 3-4 times......

if u use low quality ..... id say 1-2 days..... but i wouldnet suggest you put shit on ur skis...... u always need to keep ur base moist......... and use the god stuff........:D:D:D:D:

actually did you hear obama's stance on waxing? i agree completely and the haters can go kill themselves.
