the problem with my ak burton jacket is that although it has like 2,000,000 mm of waterproofing, it is not very warm. It's really just an expensive poncho -- a really good looking expensive poncho. Make sure that the jacket is waterproof and warm.

^the jacket that i want is the opposite really, it's really warm but it has only 2,000 for waterproofing

10'000 is what you should aim for, but any of the Siver shit should be alright if that's what you want.

dont worry about waterproofing that much... for me its: 1. how it looks 2. how warm it is (because you can always wear layers) 3. waterproofing

unless you plan to spend most of your time on the ground

id go good waterproofing over warmth. you can always wear something else under it.

if carrots got you drunk, rabbits would be fucked up

Wow. Just... wow. Yeah I NEVER get snow on me. Just... Quit skiing immediately.

Holy god some of you kids are posers. Seriously, that's like saying "I don't really ski I just like to look good on the mountain." Just quit skiing.

You can't be warm if you're wet morons. They go hand in hand. I don't care how warm a jacket is, if it gets soaked, you're fucked and freezing. Which is super fun.

Who cares what a rating your coat has, the DWR coating will wear off anything. Just get a coat you like and then get some of the Gore Tex spray on waterproofing, it's called Revive-ex. Treat your coat and pants with that Gore Tex shit and you'll never get wet...

^do you know the difference between a DWR coating and a laminate like Gore Tex? Didn't think so. Go educate yourself before spreading bullshit like that.

^A little bit on DWR coatings

Next time, think before posting.

Fuck you shit head, I do know the difference and Revivex works fine. DWR does wear off everything and Gore tex doesn 't do shit once the coating is worn off the coat.

20.000 at the very least.

20,000 is what i got on my Orage Parasuit and i think my oakley stuff is 10,00-15,000. i live in colorado tho so its not as important here as overall warmth is. i would say go 15,000 or up. Orage kinda stepped down a tid bit this year, some of there stuff is around 10,000.

Ok...you don't. You have no idea. If you did, you wouldn't keep talking shit and telling people that revive-x is a great waterproofer. Revive-x is a product that re-applies a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating onto the face fabric of your jacket. This coating is what enables water to bead when it comes into contact with your jacket.

If you had bothered to read the goretex link I put up for you(you obviously didn't, considering what you wrote in your reply), you'd have realized that goretex does require a DWR to function at its best, but that it's still waterproof without the DWR coating. Gore tex will, however, "wet out" without the coating, meaning that the face fabric of the 2 or 3 layer laminate will absorb water. You'll still stay dry, your jacket won't leak, but breathability will be impaired, causing your sweat to render you a little wetter. This is why gore, as well as other companies that make comparable 2 and 3 layer laminate waterproof fabrics, recommend that you wash your jacket in cold water, followed by drying it in a dryer. This reactivates the DWR coating. Once in a while, there isn't enough DWR coating left on your jacket for this to work, so you need to re-coat it. This is where Revive-X comes in. You spray on/wash your jacket in Revive-x(depending on whether you get a wash-in or spray-on), and then dry it. Voila, your jacket has a new DWR coating.

DWR coatings do not render your jacket waterproof. They render it Water resistant. Big difference.

Now, about you calling me a "shit head". If you ever dare call me a shit head again, I'm going to fly to whereever the fuck you live, find you, kick the shit out of you, and then rip your tongue out and shove it down your throat, causing you to suffocate and die. Got it? Good. Bitch.

that was a joke

"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog."

Now that I'm done ripping on huckimafaganddontknowmyshit, I can answer your question.

Your waterproofing needs will vary depending on where you ride. My general rule of thumb is that the further east you go, the less important waterproofing is, but the more important insulation becomes. So if you're out east in freezing temps but little precipitation other than snow, you can get away with something like an insulated 5000mm waterproof jacket. Skiing the wet west coast, where you can get hail, rain, wet snow, dry snow, and sunshine in the span of 10 minutes? Consider something super waterproof and much less insulated. Then factor in what you like to wear, your layering, and style, and you should find something you like.

So, if your budget is relatively low, but you live out east and don't need too much waterproofing, you'll be fine. If you're out west, just shop around, you'll find something good.

Oh, I see, so as soon as someone shows NS that you're full of shit, it becomes "lame" and I need to "get a life"?

Ok......the only thing that's lame here is the information you give out to people on this board.

i dont know what my obermeyer coat is, but my pants are 10000

You know you have the coolest cab driver when he says, 'And we're off like a prom dress.'

well now im lookin into a jacket that's 5000/5000 for waterproof/breathability and pants that are 10000/5000
