How much does it take?

Hey, the school just called my house and said we have school off tomorrow due to snow. We are supposedly getting 10-18 inches. But we get off usually if its over 4. Im from long island wich is flat but i live on the north-shore and its really hilly with beach roads so we usually get off from school first out of the island. How much snow does it take for you high school / college to get canceled?

where on LI do you live?

im out of high school but when i was yeah it was like 6 inches(long island, North shore.) or so. i went to college at U of U and i dont really remember class getting cancelled due to snow but if it snowed a lot i was skippin to shred anyway so it didnt matter lol

haha this is why this is an interesting thread... in my high school we could get school canceled for a foot definitely. some towns just have much better snow clearing abilities/get more snow generally

I live in granby, and theres some big hills that busses don't get up easily, and we have Hartland coming to our school, so that is another reason why they cancel, doesnt take much to cancel, like 6+

i remember that. sooo much fun. got 2ft in oly and 2 extra days of vacation. my snowboarder friend/neighbor and i went to retention pond nearby and jibbed 2x4s and pvc. i was skiing there before i skied in the mountains. thats the only time i can remember school getting canceled for snow. we normally just get a dusting from time to time

when i was in high school we would literally get out of a half inch. Kinda sucked tho cuz we would miss so much we had to make up at the end of the year.

yeah and since we live in ontario, we dont get snow days anymore.

2 years ago we had 11 or something, which is sick for southern ontario. so far this year, 0

about an inch in seattle... it's ridiculous
and everyone sucks at driving in the snow (that doesn't ski)
search seattle driving in the snow on youtube, hilarity shall ensue

my shcool has never had a snow day, even though it just dumped 18 inches chicago has too good of a plowing system.

I don't know because if there is more than 8" I don't go to school! I'm from Canada though, so here I think maybe 3+ feet = school cancelled. It rarely happens.
good luck!

My college barely has snow days. My freshman year (last year) was the first year in a long time that had a snow day, so I guess I was lucky.

In high school, we got 6-ish snowdays a year, and they were given out depending on the time of year, and how many were left. It was great.

no real amount, just has to be at the right time, 4 am is when it needs to start and at an inch a hour we will get off

I remember in elementary-high school in Utah I never had a snow day. I recall them saying the only way they could cancel school because of snow, it would have to snow so much they couldn't open the doors.

back when i was in elementary school it took 10ft of snow to close the school, it was the first time the school had a snow day in 39 years and i live in CO. but that is the only time the schools i have been to have shut down, go dam co :)

well we got 2 feet in PA on friday. school was cancelled monday, tuesday and tomorrow too. could still be longer too. now that's mainly cause of the huge power loss we have though. well i got mine back today but some are still without power.

Believe or not but we hardly get snow days in denver. Takes about 1.5 feet and then some, but it all depends on how bad the roads are. If its real icy then they'll delay or cancel but ive seen days where its snowing so hard that im almost positive that we wont have school, then boom we have school. The real shitty thing though is that when ever we get hit by a major blizzard we are all some sort of break anyways, this lterally happens ALL the time. FML right?

nobody complain.... I live in Steamboat and the only time we get off is if it's 36 below zero. it can snow 4 feet (and it has) and we don't get SHIT.

but, we get to live in steamboat :D

school was canceled for tomorrow like right after it ended today. we will probably have a two hour delay on thursday too.

we are doing to get shit on in southern NY

I don't think UNBC would close down for 10 feet of snow. It's northern BC, they kind of expect you to know how to get places when it snows.

In MT and SLC ive never had any snow delay/cancel since we arent pussies.

We did have a fat gas leak on campus once tho, classes canceled for the day.

Ha that sounds sketch but sick at the same time. We once had a day were two gangs were planning on fighting outside of my school so they cancelled school for the day which was legit. fight didnt end up happening though

We are suppose to get 16" on top of the 24" we got last tuesday in southern PA, and school was cancelled tonight for tomorrow.

I live in the mountains. It used to take at least a foot and a half of heavy snow usually more. Mostly freezing rain was the only chance we had. Unless it was one of those snow all night and never stop snowing then we might use a snow day.

this is in northern ny too in the mountains. In the south i think a good 1/4 inch + is good for canceled or delayed school

word,

i live in setauket.

im hoping we get a decent amount so i can make mad money shoveling driveways and later on hit a rail in my backyard.

i dont think that my college will ever close for snow but if it dumps most of the teachers are either late or skip there classes to ski
