How Much do Rails ruin?

I've been riding on some old skis that I didnt really care about, so I didnt mind rail damage. BUt this year I got a pair of new 1260's, and the guy at my local ski shop sia when he rode em last year, too may rails cracked the edges and fractured the core. Would I get this from a couple rail slides a day, or would I have to pound them. thx

couple rail slides a day prob wont hurt em to much. As long as you don't spend a whole day just sliding rails.

if all u hit is rails then it will fuckp ur skis, but f ur normal and will only hit them a few times a day during ur park runs then i wouldn't worry about it...if u realy wanted to session rails for a day then just use ur old shitty skis

........

There are a lot of variables. Some skis, although the same model, are more durable than others. Also, it depends on your rail skills. If you are just learning how to grind, your stance wont be as good and your skis wont be as smooth to the rail. Another factor is the type of rails. For example, a straight flat rail will do minimal damage where as a 20 foot gap to rail or a rail, 1 foot drop, rail again will do much more damage. So really, it all depends.

you should have tried to get chronics, the 1260's are way more likely to give you problems, they have a weak edge.

ya its all about stance cause when lots of people first try sliding rails there very tniitive an they lean back a bit and stick there feet out causing the edget to really dig into the rail and fuckin it up, but if your nice and balenced theres more surface area to slid on causeiing less presure on an edge

I am very discouraged to the fact that the site adminster didn't look at my profile or ask before doing something like this. I may be new to this website but I have been skiing more then most of you.

PLEASE research or ask before making such assumptions like this one.

depends on you weight and how hard and fast you hit the rail

not nearly as much as how well the ski was designed^, if you got a good ski, it shouldn't matter how much you weigh, and speed wouldn't make a difference anyway

i agree, its all about how smooth u are on the rail. Some skis have thicker edges for rails, so those would be better, but its all depends on the skis.

For me theres skiing, nothing more, nothing less. And it consumes me, every day im out there, and every day im not

I use my old PEs for rails, they will last all day with only minimal edge damage. I dont think lines do very well on rails, seeing how my friend cracked his maverick edges after only hitting about 10 rails.

and more, much more than this, I did it my way

The way I look at it is fuck it, rails will wear down your edges big time but thats what we are in this sport partially for. Just hit rails, if u break em you do, get a new pair, warranty, whatever. If your that concerned, buy a used pair or shittier pair for sliding rails

i agree with rk1080. my friend had last years 1260 and the edges were cracked in jagged sections midway through the season. i dont knwo if they fixed it for this year

i dont session rails all day, and i split my time between pow/tree and the park equally, but if u session rails a ton, use shit, or use your good skis and get ptex repair a bunch, you wont really notice the ptex until its time you want new skis anyways. it just depends on how many rails i plan on hitting a day

yeah i would have got chronics, but 1260's was bout all i could afford cuz i neede bindings and boots too. My job doesnt pay enough

As soon as those bad mothers hit rails they'll catch on fire, so watch out.

i wouldn't worry about it too much. it's not like they just disintegrate or anything. i rode rails all last season on my motherships and had not a single crack in my edges. i just got the new 1260's too and the edges on those are way burlier than on my moships, so i wouldn't anticipate many problems. then again i weigh like 115 so i dunno. whatever.

that is quite jibtastic, sir.

Only listen to a shop tech that freeride's... Racer fag's dont no shit! I hate tech's.

..Seth Pistols rock my fuckin socks..

also depends on ur rail style

if your front ski is edge sliding, like chricton on a few rails in RFA then it'll fuck up your edges way more (im not paying out chricton, he's fucking sik. he was just the easiest e.g.)

'this is just like sex, only im having it!'

yeah my edges under foot are just round but ive just had to p-tex like once, it doesnt really matter with my skis (i dont think anybody else can lay claim to original k2 enemies, oh yeah the first)

why did you even buy 1260's? wait if you have to ask if rails will mess them up, then it's obvious why you ski on adidas skis.

I think Anthony Boronowski in general is just a phase.

o yea and areozol, many people can claim the origional enemys, but they just choose not to brag about a shitty old ski.

I think Anthony Boronowski in general is just a phase.

^^adidas skis?...what the hell are you talking about?...i think you have your numbers mixed up cuz the line 1260 and the company are not affiliated with adidas, so unless some shit hit the fan and i completely missed it then that remains the same...the 'adidas ski' you're talking about is a salomon ski as far as i know...correct me if i'm wrong...but if i'm right, you should make sure you actually know what 'adidas ski' you are talking about before you put something out like that.

dude, the original enemys rocked. i wish i had a pair of those.

lol, id kill for a pair of skis that can butter and that didnt have smaller back tips than carvers, but since i got them when twin tips were all new and flash im still kinda stoked, ill buy some new skiis when im overseas i think

Phrosty, why do you even post dude. Just stfu dude. On my old skis, the edges didnt crack or anything, so I thought I'd ask, if rails would really do the dramatic damage the tech guy told me. So phrosty, unless you got something to say thats gonna help me out, just dont post dude, your just spamming hate.

in terms of rail damage...whats the deal with beveling edges so its not as harsh when u slide...is there a standard like 45 degree angle on beveling or what?

No time for the ol in-out love, I've just come to read the meter!

exactly what that dude said, when you buy a pair of skis, your buying the use of the for a year, if you serious about rails, fuk those bitches up when you get them, if you are worried about fuking them up, jumpp in your geo metro and go fuk a big black man, bich.

Here is something that might help. Find a shop in your area that has a ski oven press. Yes a ski oven, you heard right.

You can bake in alittle extra durability. I do it with my skis. But mind you only wood core skis. No foam. Also check with the customer service dept you purchased the skis from about warranty issues. Check that the shop tech knows what they are doing.

I'll get ahold of Louie or Serg and get their settings for each ski company and post them later.

Signature.

don't worry about your 1260's. the edge is the same as last year on all the new line models except for the chronics. so if all the edges are the same, why aren't people worried about rail damage on their beautiful new 550 dollar pollard pros? because it's really not that big a deal. the new 1260's will be as durable as last year, which was clearly durable enough. people that praised 1260's last year are ragging on them now because they dropped to a lower price. it's the same ski, minus the ollie band. it's not like all of a sudden it sucks.

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.

Yeah, last years model rocked, and I know rails cause damages fuck heads, read my whole post. I was wondering if Line kept same edges/design basically
