How many times did you fall on a box

...before you got it down?

I'm a really new park skiier so please don't be an asshole. Today was my first day on boxes and it was painful. I can do boxes that don't have a gap between the kicker and the box, but otherwise I got owned. I could do a full 90 onto the box but I could stay up for 3/4th of a 20 fter at the most before I slid backwards onto my ass. I fell at least 20 times onto the box. Tell me, how long does this take to learn and is it normal for me to get killed on the first day?

I still fall occasionally on ridiculously easy stuff. Just remember to get your legs really wide apart.

yeah for sure..remember to lean forward and legs about shoulder width apart..that will stop you falling on your ass..

also focus on the END of the box, not just infront of you - it will help with balance.

Do a search, heaps of threads on this - even check out the videos in the rails section and watch the technique some of the guys on here have

you mean one of these?

actually i only fell once before i got them down pat, but i obviously fall on certain boxes occasonally

I've been skiing for a while and I fell close to 20 times on a box today. Given it was a 55' long s box, but whatever. Its a box

your leaning back to much, out more weight on the front ski. Trust me, you wont catch you edge. i only fell on the box once or twice when learn, but fell off a lot more.

Thanks, I'll remember the wide legs...

Does it matter which way you spin onto the box cause I always did left, but left is how I hockey stop. Should I go right since I'm not used to leaning back when turning my skis right or does it not matter?

i only fell ON the box i learned on once or twice

but you want to definately keep feet shoulder width apart

look at the end of the box

stay as centered as possible

and if you feel yourself falling try and fall forward you wont fall on the box as easily that way

I only usually fall when im doing a firt hit a box going just forward. and my tips don't make it over on to the top of the box. I call them sternum slides.

maybe for an experienced skier, since you have more control over stuff while your on it, but it also adds another direction you have to balance, so if your not good its harder.

i fell a lot. a lot a lot. on rails too. my thighs were just black and blue at the end of each weekend.

remember to keep your weight on the tongues of your boots so you don't get backseat when you pop off the lip. keep your weight over your downhill foot and look at the end of the box.

I fell lots too and still do. I had tons of bruises from it. What helps me is to have a wide stance and dont jump on from sideways. Another thing is to commit in your mind. This is a big part of skiing. Don't go half-assed or you will fall.

Have fun and good luck!

sometimes rails suck but then they can be ur best friend. it takes a while to learn just dont jump on in back seat cus ul get screwed.

on boxes when i first started i more or less fell off the sides of them more then actually falling on them..but it was on narrow boxes not like 3 ft wide ones

Hell I still fall on boxes today. You just gotta getback up and be like fuck this im doing it again. Thats how I learned, hit it, fall, hike back up, repeat.Eventually youll get it and youll feel really good when you do. Im just learning fucking 270's cause im slow like that. Oh and try to make convo with other skiers their if they are hiking back up too. they could give you some good tips

just stare at the end of it, and g style it you get good balance that way. it works for me. keep your legs bent and your body low

its pretty hard to hurt yourself falling on a box unless you like whiplash your head into the topsheet

boxes i didnt fall on alot, until they came easy. i get careless and fall hard sometimes. however just master rideons until your confident enough to step up to gap on, the as you gain more confidence step up to bars, the barrels, etc it goes on

I did rails before boxes because we didn't have boxes here for awhile, but I have fallen on them before, its annoying.

Haha ive done boxes for a while and i still fall on boxes for the stupidest reasons but for you keep your legs wide lean forward and keep your eyes at the end of the box or you will fall off to one side or the other

its actually easier if there is a bit of a gap to the box, because then you don't have to pop so hard. it flows better. if you are coming off earlier you are probably forgetting to look to the end of the box, or you aren't coming on directly center.

as you approach it, look down to the end of the box, that will keep you straight. then pop and address, and slide with steeze.

its not really about how many times u fall, u jus have to have confidence to commit to it and if ur sliding off one side jump more to the side ur not sliding off, its easy after a few times

haha that box is so gnarly. i didnt even hit it because i knew it would take up the rest of my day trying to get it

I fell a lot on boxes my first time too- I still do get some impact shorts if it's that bad i was black and blue for a week, but i had fun!

Just relax your legs, and relax yourself. If you stress out too much about what you'll be doing, your legs will straighten up and you'll probably fall. My friend told me this when I was beginning boxes and it helped me a lot.

lol me too first run of the year i was riding over to the lift and i popped a 180 and fell

yeah but it took me like 4-5 days to do boxes, a lot of falls and hip bruises
