How many skis have you broken?

Lets hear ya stories. Who's broken the most, how bad were they, what were you doing?

2015- Had no brakes on one of my Soul 7's, it ejected and went like a kilometer downhill before being stopped by a tree. Topsheet and base separated from the tip all the way down to the binding.

2016- Caught my tips backflipping my Sir Francis Bacons, snapped my topsheet at the shovel. Kept skiing them but they just got worse and worse until I couldn't use them.

2017- Had a pair of Sickdays that pretty much fell apart for no reason. Topsheet and base separated after a nosegrab, less than a week later the other skis sidewall blew out on a groomer. Bought some Marksmans and I'm hoping K2 will treat me better.

smh. you all know the drill. only 1 ski tho.

but a guy i know breaks 2 skis every season at least. he doesn't really ski much now days though.

Every ski I've ever had...so Liberty LTE, ON3P FR (x2 or x3), Armada Ar7, Volkl Wall, K2 Shreditor, Rossignol Slat, ON3P Magnus, Line Chronic so about 10 pair.

Dynastar Trouble Makers- 1 pair

Rossi Scratch- 1 pair

Bluehouse MR- 1 pair

Bluehouse Antics- 3 pairs

Surface one life- 4 pairs

Couple years ago I broke one of my Armada AR7 overshooting a backflip (ski almost broke in half). Bought the same again because I really liked them and if one would brake I still had one back up ski. The next season I skied over a brench or sth during springtime and completly destroyed the base of one of the new skis. So in the end I still had two functional AR7 skis that made a pair again.

Now I have Faction, love those skis but edges on nose and tails pull out after couple weeks of rail sliding. My friends have similar struggles with the edges but duck-tape will fix it most of the time and it don't really bother me if it's only on the tips. I think it also really depends on how you ski. Have some friends who go trough 2-3 pairs per season.

Also 1 pair of Nothing But Troubles

Rossignol s4's - edge cracks from rails + not drying them after spring days led to some rotting core, made edge separation worse and worse over time.

Armada alpha 1 (loved them) after a few seasons took them into the woods before their was a solid snow base and hit a big rock that was covered with a thin layer of snow. ~8 inches of underfoot edge was pulled up and out, and the sidewall was completely crunched in. Rode those for the rest of the season and I wish i had taken a picture cuz they looked so gnarly by the time i was done with them

Oh boy.

00 Dynastar twinboard concept: Complete delamination

01 Dynastar Pro Candide: Edges tore from top to bottom

03 Fisher Lunar: Broke in half on my 3rd run

05 Fisher Addict pro: complete delamination on both skis

06 Rossignol S5: Broke in half

10 Rossignol scratch: edges completly tore off the ski

12 Rossignol Scratch: Edges tore off the ski

12 Rossignol Super 7: Edges ripping out of the ski

14 Rossignol Scratch: Edges tore off the ski

15 Head Ventury 95: Destroyed the core, that one was on me.

I got to see Fisher binding explode to pieces (tail piece)

Snapped the latch on the Marker Baron 13 (2x)

Rail tore off Rossignol Axel (3x)

This year I broke a rivet in the pivot of a pair of Technical Cochise 2015. Its the first time a boot failed on the shell.

snapped 3 pairs last season alone. 2 snaps and blown out all the sidewalls 2 seasons ago. gotta chill shits expensive

I have an old pair of Kartel 98's that I am actually trying to break because they don't have anymore edge... They won't break.

Broke two heelpieces from my OG orange FKS's this year though.

Went through 4 pair last season.

Started with kartels 98s that quickly blew out the edge and I kept riding them until the sidewall separated from the base till my core was exposed. They're pretty waterlogged but they're still mounted if I'm in desperate need.

After that I had to go back to my old al dentes that still had all edges intact but then the sidewall blew out.

Bought some k2 domains off a homie but I snapped them in half behind the binding in a week doing a frontie on a very small offering.

After that the same homie gave me his old halos that were already in pretty bad shape but I was hurting for skis and cash right before I went to whis. Ripped out lots of edge of the pretty quick then I had chunks of base peeling away and a tail delamed on me. I managed to epoxy the tail and riveted it as a safety. After that they were barely holding on until I bought my poachers.

My homie Paul Wall goes through several pairs a season. He's on his seventh pair this year, granted, he gets all his stuff used, but I think its pretty redonculous how many skis he goes through.

Zach destroys skis like a damn fiend

I have snapped 2 pairs of salomon rocker 100, 1 k2 recoil and 1 faction c2.0. K2 and faction broke while hitting urbans but both of my salomons snapped while doing some jump action in park

2017-18 seaz

3 pairs of line tw

One pair of faction 1.0

One pair of Armada Al dente zeros

Now riding second set of al dentes

In my opinion The ski industry really needs to step up their quality control as well as their warranty policies. As parks get bigger and better made, so should skis.

Just two. One pair I got caught by fluke between the wood and the metal part of a rail, and it snapped in half. The other ones edge came so far out it wasn’t worth fixing

Around 11 pairs I think.

I’m hard on my shit & hit a lot of rails.

09’ Armada El Reys: 1.5 season(s)

11’ K2 Domains: 1.5 season(s)

11’ Armada THALL: 2 Seasons

11’? Surface No Times: 2 Weeks lol

10’ Line Afterbangs given to me from a friend: 1 month

Frnt Turbos: 1 season

Rossignol Slats: 1.25 season(s)

Surface 3 stage rocker skis (can’t remember model name) : 1.5 seasons

Moment Night Trains: 1 season (it was on 2 mounts when I bought it)

High Society Classics: 1 season

4Frnt Click: pretty much toast after 1 season

sounds like the people's champ to me

rossignol s3 - delaminated

some salomon ski - dont remember

liberty antigen - ripped out heel piece and top sheet

klint pure - sidewall

armada arv ti - sidewall and edge (also broke the jester pros mounted to it

elan puzzle TBT - whole inside edge ripped out

line honey badger - base and edge gone underfoot

The old Atomic Punx with the tiger graphic. Snapped the core on 2 different pairs. Only ski I've ever broken but I broke it twice (got it warrantied). I have over 100 days on the new punx however and have had no issues. No story on the breakage, just hitting some large park jumps, might've cased a bit, but nothing spectacular.

Don't forget the demographics of this site. Poor and skiing don't usually go hand in hand.

I imagine a lot of people here are like me in that skiing is the only hobby that I'm willing to throw down $ on. Besides costs of living such as rent, food, car stuff and such, the only things I spend money on are weed and ski gear

I only buy used or wait patiently for killer deals. I’ve never spent more than $300 for a pair of skis. Most of the skis I listed cost $110-$220.

...and don’t give me the bs “I bet if you bought more expensive nice skis that wouldn’t happen.”

Assuming you're not buying new bindings with every set of skis, that's pretty reasonable. I'd say I do about the same

Yeah definitely. I have 3 sets of bindings that I use for different waist widths etc..

I have never broken a ski before but I am trying to kill my Icelantic Gypsys. Edges are rusty and rounded out but not cracked or pulling, Core is rotted, bases have a total of 36 core shots (all down to the fiberglass or wood) and yet they still continue to live. I’ve even taken them out on the parking lot and had my friend pull me around behind his truck when there was like an inch of snow on the ground. That’s their first and only base grind I’ve ever given them. Spring this season should be fun though haha.

In chronological order

Line Afterbangs - edge rip out, delam

Ninthward MXP - edges ground down to base only ripped out when it was paper thin, minor delam

Ninthward True Twin - delam 3/4 tips. still skiable tho

Dynastar Slicer - Snapped and split under the heelpiece

Rossi Slat - lot of edge missing underfoot and edge pulling out on the tip. in and out of use as a back up ski

Armada Al Dente - Delam every tip, delam under foot, tons of edge missing, completely reverse cambered now

K2 Shreditor 102 - Delam both tails, decent amount of edge missing, tips are cracked and about to snap
