How many people do you know that are over 100 years old...?

when i was in highschool i worked as a waiter at a nursing home. it was pretty fun and i got to meet alot of interesting people, mainly a man named walter.

On september 21, Walter turned 112 years young. born in 1896 in Minnesota he has lived through a time with no running water, seen the advancement of automobiles, 2 world wars, the great depression, the TV, cell phones and the internet. he is the 27th oldest person in the world and he is as sharp as a whistle, smokes cigars, and doesnt eat dinner. he said the key to living long is keep the brain going and staying healthy and fit.

could you imagine the book this guy could write or what he must feel inside as to what the world has transcribed to be over 112 years?

just was curious if anybody knows anybody older? haha

so nuts. i remember reading about the old living person who was this women who became a widow in 1939....

she has been a widow for 70 years. holy. shit.

I hope you mean this man is 112 years OLD. If he were 112 years YOUNG that means he'll be born 112 years from now lol.

But that is Interesting. My great grandpa is 101 this year, and his mind is done. He fought in both World Wars. The second of which he fought alongside my grandpa. Its pretty amazing when you think about it.

age is crazy. I can't imagine the conversations that guy has to have had.

I got weirded out when Target started carrying plasmas. I can't imagine how that guy would feel.

Oldest person I have met was 92 and it was my great grand mother.

i have always had the utmost respect for the elderly. my grandpa would tell me so many stories (well, mainly about the WWII). my grandma would tell me stories about when she was young and the telephone was starting to gain popularity or how her dad settled out west on horses.

its amazing to know how much we can learn from them.

I know three, and they all live together. well maybe they're not 100...but I think one of them is 101, another is 97, and the other will be 100 next year. they used to be my neighbors before I moved. I went and visited 5 weeks ago, they asked what kind of music I liked. they all had ipod touches and one of them busted out some tupac. it was kinda ridiculous. although they all grew up poor, raised their kids in the inner city and all...it was fun though. I hope to see them again before they die. although they all seem to be alive and kickin well.

wow andy. thats amazing

he has lived in 3 different century's....

wow, its crazy to think about all that he has seen.......

stupid NS cut off my post....

my great grandpa died 2 years ago at the age of 96. his wife is still alive at 94(i think)

but she has super bad Alzheimer's to the point she no longer recognizances one of her daughters... such a shitty disease

My brother in-law turned 100 last April, he has some pretty crazy stories of factory work during world war I. Two of his best friends died when they got sucked into machines.

thats sweet!! im pretty sure ive meet walter before... but he was in such normal shape i dont really remember him that much haha.

and i know ive meet him cuz ive been to the nursing home with my bro (ferrinski) before several times to talk to people.

but thats amazing to think that he has seen everything thats happend with technology and not to mention fashion!

oh snap! don't let the democrats see you say that.

to the thread starter-- that's awesome. I've heard such awesome stories from my great aunts/uncles and from my grandparents.

I hope I live to be old and die happy.

Old Man Griffith used to own the property that i now live on (he sold some of it to developers, which was turned into a neighbourhood, Discovery Ridge, and the rest became a protected area, Griffith Woods). When i met him he was 99 years old, he lived to be 101. that's the oldest person i've ever met.

This is my Grandpas auntie. She's 102. She just started using a wheel chair a couple weeks before this picture was taken. She can still walk, but you know if she slips or anything its basically the end of it, so it's just a precaution. Her hearing is the only thing that she's really lacking, so you just have to talk loud. But she's still sharp as a tack (for being 102). Shes the only person i know that's over 100.

thats not true at all. i read a newspaper article a couple of weeks ago. it said with all the advances in techology and medicine that in about 100 years or so the average height will be 6'5 and the average life expectancy will be close to 120. no joke it was in the gazette. life expectancy is incrasing.

My great great grandpa was 100 something, my great granpda was 105 and my great aunt is bordering 100 now. I never met my great great grandpa or my great granpda (was about the size of a thumb when my great grandpa died) but I see my great aunt at every family event. She has cancer and her doctor said at the rate it's progressing she'll be into the 100's before it's even a problem. She's really interesting, is able to keep up with a conversation and she is deathly afraid of cats.

damn i wish i knew someone over 100 years old. i have to interview someon for a video project and itd be so awesome if i could interview one

Same thing with my great grandpa. He lived past 100, can't remember specifically, but had terrible alzheimers. Every time I saw him he would ask me who I was(I was like 4), and my mom would be like, "this is your great grandson Arthur" every time he saw me. Then one day my mom told him my name was John, and he finally remembered and didn't ask(John was his name). But then he called me John and I was like "I'm Arthur" and he started laughing and walked away.
