I ski almost nothing but BC, I always take this medical kit thing I have and usually carry those little fuel cubes and some matches in there too, and a beacon, and my poles are a probe when you take them apart but the guys I go with take on like every other time and a shovel, GET A METAL SHOVEL, alot of times the snow gets so hard after avys that plastic ones just suck. always go with someone, and get an avalung if you are going to ski bigger lines and stuff, Waynewong, did you know only 10% of avalanche victims die from trauma? 85% die from suffocation, trust me avalungs are a good idea. And if you feel motivated read the book snow science.
