High North session 4

A college teacher reminds her class of tomorrow's final exam. 'Now class, I won't tolerate any excuses for you not being here tomorrow. I might consider a nuclear attack or a serious personal injury or illness, or a death in your immediate family but that's it, no other excuses whatsoever!' A smart-ass guy in the back of the room raised his hand and asks, 'What would you say if tomorrow I said I was suffering from complete and utter sexual exhaustion?' The entire class does its Best to stifle their laughter and snickering. When silence is restored, the teacher smiles sympathetically at the student, shakes her head, and sweetly says, 'Well, I guess you'd have to write the exam with your other hand.'-Kris

me and a bunch of ppl have a ski company called ONE REALITY out of placerville california. its a custom thingy so like any ski or board can be made. any shape size or flex or graphics. yay

see, all these new companies are unreliable, and if u want a good ski that u know doesnt break, or works really well for u, go with something trusted and that everyone knows about...maybe

^touche, but, I'd rather ski on a ski that has been around for alot longer because they'd be more reliable.

Check out the trailer to Minor Threat. It features the best skiers from all over New York State (It's under the edits/shorts section or in Huckfest900's profile)

Peter: When you go on a cruise you need to build up a base tan.

Chris: But I heard that in tanning booths you can get something called Melenoma

Peter: Don't worry son that's just fancy talk for sexified.

yea def but th skis that are coming out are dedicated to our sport....unlike other companys that make skis for everything. so in 2 or 3 years these new companys will have everything worked out and itll be sick

Still, with all these sompanies coming up they will force an evolution of the shi indusrty. Hopefully like snow borading a few companies can hold a fai share of the market. The problem with new school skiing is that unlike snowboarding, the average skier (non-newschooler) will not buy armada, but the average boarder, who never hits park will buy burton or sims.

The smart man does not know everything, rather the smart man admits when he knows nothing.

The new companies are going to increse competition which will do A)Make skis tighter or B)Make skis cost less, so either way we win with the new companies. And a bunch will not make it past their first or second season, sad to say. Regardless, the new companies will only benefit the new school movement and not harm it.

global warming isnt all that big a deal, if everything those scientists said were true this summer toronto would in the mid 30s (celcius) or higher, every day since id say about july 1st its been strugling to surpace 20c and rarely 25, it might have gone over 30 once. oh ya and the worst thing that global warming could do is cause a lot more precipitation and you know what that mean........ a hell of a lot more powder days!!

I think the main reason you see so many new companies emerging recently is because the market is growing and there are ways to make product better. If you believe just because a company has been around a while makes them reliable, I question where you are getting your criteria for reliability. If you call the good warranty policy ever time you break your salomon foam core skis reliability, sweet. If you want to keep replacing your K2 Skis because they keep delaminating (hence K2 installed rivets in their skis from the factory). If you think reliability is using a product with sales numbers in mind, go with the big companies that have been around a while.

Armada, 4Frnt, Faction, NinthWard, Liberty, and the other new companies are emerging because skiers are finding ways to make the product better. Skiers today are using their equipment much differently than in the past. For a big company, it is very expensive to start fresh and design an entirely new ski. Only just now have the big companies felt that the sales numbers and profits would justify creating new expensive molds and production processes for the new generation freeride/park ski.

For the new companies, it is much easier to start building a solid product. From the beginning, everything in and about the company is focused on one goal, designing and producing a product specifically for our market. Just like the abundance of skateboard deck, truck and wheel companies out there that were established to meet the wants and needs of a specific market.

I think the big companies will always have a line of products designed for park/freeride, but the real quality products will be designed by the smaller, more specific companies simply because the efforts are more centrally focused.

I advise all of us as skiers to support these core companies because they are the ones who will listen, keep up with the trends and stay ahead of the big corporate manufacturers.

RED TEAM!

The problem is, how many people find these companies reliable? Line has been there since the beginning, and has a really good team of skiers, hence proven themselves. Armada has an incredible team showing the quality of their skis. 4Frnt does not have alot of big name riders, but after one season their skis have proven to be top notch or so it is said on this forum. They didnt have alot of competition in the rider owned department ;ast season. However all these new companies rising up this year have teams made up mostly of underground heros and will have to depend on an excellent product to get sales going. After all sales are what keep the company alive, and this year the rider owned competition is even more intense. Sales rely on quality of the product and marketing (sponsored pro team), and sometimes only having one of the two doesnt cut it. Also, with the growing amount of companies, skiers will have a harder time chosing their equipment, and they will often go with what they already know, a ski thats been on the market for 2 years and already improved or re-designed.

It's a shame, but we can probably expect one of these companies to shutdown after this season.

I don't wish it, but it could happen.
