How many gigs of ram

hell you could do it on 512mb, but a gig is good. Will still be slow and prone to crash a lot if you're running other programs.

it depends on what ure editing... i used to edit dv with 1gb and it works fine, but now that im editing hdv i have 2gb of ram.

u also need a great CPU if ure going to edit hdv

i run premier pro 7.0 with 512 pc2700 ram and 1.8ghz p4 and it runs fine... rendering time is a little slow for certain transisions and keyframing but it works for me until i get my g5 setup

My new computer has a lot of gigs and it runs really nicely. The exporting of frames can run slow to a point of one frame a second, but that's only a few times. The playback also gets sketchy when I'm using resized footage to fit a widescreen setting.

what if i have 1 gig and a read good processor would that help out running adobe premiere more smoothly.

so would a better processor make up for the low amount of ram i have which is 1 gig bcuz most ppl have 2.

512 is sufficient for premiere pro but it also depends on what your editing and how big your project is and if your are running any other programs

start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system information

your RAM will be called your physical memory.

I work on a 2.0 GHz with 2 GB RAM but Im seriously considering upgrading to 4 or 5 gigs of RAM cause Im using Motion a lot now and float rendering is a bitch unless your comp is really fuckin souped.

I don't know why but I only have 768mb of ram and a 1.8ghz processor and it renders 1:3. I have no idea why some of your computers are running so slow.
