It seems like everyone needs rail help, including me... i tried today and fell on my back 2x and then we left cause this girl we were with was complainin... damn bitch

Did i write that?

stay forward, land on the rail sideways, keep trying, if you only fell 2 times it doesn't seem like you tried too hard.

Everyone needs rail help because everyone who knows how to ride rails wants to know how to 270 off, or switch on, or ride a rainboq or a C rail or something. Lots of ppl on here seem to know what they're doing...at least some...

get both your feet on the rail at the same time, and commit all the way to 90 degrees

matty jeronimo: of course

Do a backflip while turning 90 degrees then spin to unnatural then 450 off to switch :-) , i tried that ..... to bad i only made it to a normal railslide ... at least i have the balls to try :-D

ive got a spare one to sell, it came free with my firstpair, i never use it so it seems a waste, youll have to pay the shipping from australia though.

yeah, everyone call always progress, but for you, it sounds liek you are having touble doing the basics, get to 90 degrees against the rail, stay forward, and stay forward, did I say get perpindicular to the rail, yea, jsut commit, adn get forward.

Just rail a lot, everytime you see a rail you think you can do.

After a while you will get them dialed...

fully commit 90 degress, plant both feet same time, balance foward, slide and rip off your shirt and then go bang the hottest girl on your mountain

yeah rails are hardddd, i seem to like to slid off half way threw, or plant my nuts...

I'm so big

you'd have to jump and swing up

just to hit me in the knees....

my biggest problem learning was that i allways slid out, i found that if u keep ur feet wide it helps a lot, like just barely more than shoulders width, rails are easy i got it the third time i tried

mine was coming off prematurely, so i angled myself instead of like 50 dgrees to about 80-90 and i started sliding well...to practice just run really fast and jump on a skateboard the way you slide, it gets your balance ready, thats why i found them easy,

almost any rail can be greased with total commitment. You just have to go in and slide it until you fall, don't prepare to get off the rail early. take a couple bad falls, and then you will grease it. then you can get into rails that are a bit more fun like: rollercoasters, rainbow-c rails, and multiple kinks.

rails are weird. once you get a trick on skis, you somewhat have it. rails are different, you can clean a rail the 3rd time, and it will take u 10 times to get it again

lol actully once you have ballance that doesnt happen. But the real secret to learning is just, if u fall back, lean forward if u catch your edge and fly forward, lean a littel back. Just do the opisit of wut you are trying to do and you will get it eventully. its probley not gonna come on your 2nd or 3rd try but u will get it eventully

its really easy, just get it under ur boots and look at the end of the rail

i just learned rails this week and im not that good at them, i can only do flat ones and i did a c box a little while ago but i wanna try some kinks and at high north im gonna try the rollercoaster, i know im either gonna get nutted or slide off early, but im gonna try it

I quote freezed- '^do that and youre set. thats all there is to it.' Well, i would love to say it's true.. but it's not. i pretty much always turn the full 90 degrees, and i still can't get really good, solid rail slides. I can do it... but i lean way far back, and it's because my feet arent apart, and i am not popping all the way. When you dont do those things, and you get on a really slippery rail, you are done. (just like i was when i killed myself from falling back)

^sorry i forgot to include the lean forward and have confidence part - if you don't KNOW that you're going to slide the rail, you won't make it

if you have less pop, and more of bringing your feet up, you wont land as hard, you sill be lower, therefore having a wide stance. it will work out.

I could do every rail I tried last season, and now I cant do any. Well i did a couple, but they were really short.

You people find that a wide stance helps? It doesn't make any difference to me. Not noticeable anyways. Guess it looks better though.

if you are sliding off half way through the rail it means you are going to slow. i think thats everyones big problem with rails. you have to go fast enough to slide the whole thing

rails r fun.. wide stance doesnt help you have to do with whatever you feel comfortable with.

TRY EVERYTHING EVEN IF IT MEANS KICKING YOUR OWN ASS

I just started getting rails down. I can't do any trick ones but I working on it. the trick is confindence. Start with box's. get a good pop and 90 degree turn on the box. The when you are feeling confidended carry that same amount of speed on to a small flat rail and just keep trying it. really focus and watching the end of the rail. a good stance is just being comfortable and realxed with good balance. keep your stance the same as on the boxes. hope that helps.

a conversation between two skiers:

skier 1 ' have you seen those new skis with the tips in the front and back yet'

skier 2 'no but I heard about those things'

Skier 1 ' yeah I don't see why they would want tips in the back...maybe they are try'n to copy those stupid snowboarders or something like that'

skier 2 'Yeah seems like kind of a stupid idea.'

See my problem was finding a small enough rail to practice on, all of the rails at my mountain were all big/high and intimidating. Plus i hated it when people were crowded around watching. So i built my own rail at home, not very high off the ground, and just kept trying untill i got it right, then once i coudl grease my little rail fine i started trying longer, higher ones, and eventually kinks, and rainbows. I can't do S rails yet.

I can't do S rails yet. The trick is though, committing fully to that first 90 degree turn, and you need more speed than you are probably comfortable with at first. The faster you're going the easier it is gonna be to maintain balance. Besides that, the best tip i can give is look at the end of the rail and not at your feet. If you look at your feet, you're gonna bail. Lean forward, and just grease it.

At my little hill, i can grease all of the rails except the first one, which is a kinked rail and the first part is easy, but i can never get it when it starts to go down, how the hell can you people do that?

when it comes to the down kink part drop your lead foot by putting just a little more wieght on it. you will fly right over it, and eventually forget its there

I just started rails too. I first learned the beginner 8 foot after about 2 falls. Then I did that about 20 times. After that I tried out 30 footer and got half way the first time. The second time my feet slid out and I smashed my head on it. Got a concussion. So im hoping the third time I will grease it.

i built a 1' high 10' long rail to learn on. helped with confidence

^Haha that's what a helmet's for. Yeah the 8 footer at my mtn is really thin, and the rainbow and 25 footer are fairly wide, so it's easy to move up for the noobs. It's kinda funny how the beginner rail makes so many people its bitch though. I've taken a few horrible falls on it myself.

Yea, the funny thing is I was wearing my helmet. I wonder what would have happened if I hadnt. Not good.... I also made a PVC rail in my yard to learn on first. Its 8 feet and 2 inches wide. SOOO easy now!

ditch the bitch is the best advice, if you wanna get good, you gotta be focused and undistracted

Can you give me some tips for making a pvc rail?

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ignore the posers. Respect the beginners as much as you do the pros. Ride hard for yourself. Everyday.[/i]

I used two pieces of 1 inch pvc. I cut it to size then I used an old wooden bench. I flipped it over and nailed boards across the legs and then I nailed a 2x4 length wise down the bench. I drilled holes at the ends and bolted the pvc onto the 2x4. If it slides in the middle you can drill a hole through the side of the pipes and put wire through like I did. Then I twisted the wire to get it tight. You may want to support it in the middle if you make somthing like this because if someone heavy would slide my rail it might break.
