How long will mammoths park be good

Every summer my homies and I usually take a trip to mount hood in the middle of June. But we were thinking this year since theres so much snow in mammoth and they've already announced they'll stay open till the fourth of July we might venture out there. Reasons why we are thinking mammoth is because we would then drive down to LA and hit the beach. In past seasons with good snowfalls how long has the park been good? How long has skiing around the mountain stayed decent?

Thanks

You could get good slush turns on the steeps of the upper mountain in June of 2011. I would expect it to be the same this year. I don't know how long they maintain their park for, I can't really speak to that. But the upper mountain should be fun, just bring some spring wax to help glide through the slush.

Newport and Huntington are about 5 hours and 45 minutes from Mammoth with no traffic driving 70-75. Manhattan and Hermosa are closer, maybe 5 hours or so. To get to those places you have to drive down through LA, which sucks if you go at the wrong time. You could hit Ventura. Ventura is about 5 hours 15 minutes from Mammoth, but it is northwest of LA so you don't have to deal with LA traffic. You can also hit Malibu by driving down the 101 and hitting the 1 in Ventura and driving down to Malibu. It is a nice drive and you can avoid LA traffic that way.

My brother lives in Marina Del Rey so that's where we would be heading

They usually move the park up by then and it wont be main park, but it would be fun. Whats great about mammoth vs hood is that you can actually ski the whole mountain at mammoth and it will be money spring skiing. Consider going in may if you can, main park would likely be open then.

That should be about the same distance as Manhattan and Hermosa. Just be careful with when you are driving. If you are on the 405 around rush hour it will be a nightmare. Marina Del Rey does not have great surfing, although there are some spots around, but the talent on the beach should be off the charts. If you don't surf, and I'm guessing you don't, you can still splash around on a boogie board and have a good time. There is no drinking (to my knowledge) on the beach although people do get away with it, just be sly. I've never partied in Marina Del Rey but there should be some good spots. Manhattan and Hermosa have great nightlife and they are close by. I'm sure your brother will know where to go.

As has been said, I think you guys should be pumped to hit Mammoth at that time. But I can't guarantee the park will be good. They will be on limited operations at that point, most lifts will be closed and only Main Lodge will be open, Eagle and Canyon closed. The skiing will still be good, they will have the gondola open to the top and the upper chutes and bowls should be money. Where are you guys coming from?

Denver, I think it's about a 15 hour drive which is shitty but much better than the 19 hour drive to Oregon.
