How long do you think the glacier on superstar at killington will last?

Anyone know if they truly blew snow any time temps permitted? Or was it a blow snow when we feel like it kinda thing? Just curious I feel like if they blew any time temps were below like 28 they’d have more snow there.

"Glacier" ?? yeah man-made from all the snow guns

If they blew enough snow to actually make it move under its own weight that would be hilarious. I imagine it would happen more quickly with man made snow cause it's a lot more dense

Idk, Seemed like a mix of both. When I was there in early March they were going pretty heavy with the guns everywhere but Superstar but then every time they post about blowing snow its on superstar

Typically they blow about a 30 foot base on the entire trail. They don’t blow snow whenever temps allow them, they just make snow to get to their goal range. It usually will last till mid may into the beginning of June, but it does kind of look like they made a little extra this year so idk. Haven’t been back to Vermont to see it yet, but I’d guess last week of may/first of June.

sidenote: everyone calls it a glacier ironically, no one actually thinks it’s a glacier, it’s just marketing and kinda funny to say (cause 30 feet of man made snow down a 5000 foot long trail is pretty fucked)

I think one year they were open with lift service into June. Id go if they did it this year. Would be cool to hit some surf early morning and ski later the same day.

Skied on that thing last week it's like skiing on a cue ball. Concrete ice, fully convex and steep. East coast as hell. Can kinda hit some gnarly transfers on the edge there but that's it. Should just lay down msnow and some park features and be done with it.

They have but not in over like 20 years or something. 2019 they made it to June 2nd but they haven’t made it far into June in a minute.

Anyone see that Killy is going one more weekend for a June 8th end of season?

They're also trying to charge $79 for a ticket....

I mean where else are you goint to ski. Also not just "hey we had a shit ton of snow this year we'll stay open" they're blowing a shit ton of snow which isn't cheap at all so they can stay open late. They're gonna charge for it or they wouldn't do it.

It can be a tough sell late season though. It's a catch 22. If it doesn't do well enough at that price, instead of dropping the price they'd prolly just scale back on it.

They build a park ever for it? I know they used to have a hike park for a while late season.

They said in a post they’d keep reds backyard open till it melts out but they closed it last week of April

I was there the last Friday ramshead was open and there was barely any snow left there, probably would have been toast by the next weekend

I wish they still did the little hike park like last season though

They never have a park within 3 weeks of closing because there just simply isn’t any snow for it unless they put rails on superstar itself somewhere.

stoked to ski June 4th and 5th, cya there homies

they should push out the bottom of peace park next season and make a late spring hike park. the jumps and qp would be enough to keep it going for a little while.

Does mt snow still do they're memorial weekend jam on inferno?

Used to be pretty fun. I only went the first few years because there was a lot of stuff going on that weekend but always a good time.

Vail hates fun so i wouldn't be surprised if they stopped it though

no fucking way vail lets that happen

I feel that. Used to drive 4 hours almosy to mt snow to hot rails in the pipe/inferno or set some up. There were usually some shovels and rakes and rails around. If you were respectful nobody cared. Also had a mini ramp on the deck then.

RIP.

Where are you at

I’ve advocated this to Killington themselves and park crew with two different heads of the team since I learned rails 7 years ago. I hate to say it but this is hopeless :(

The Peace Pipe jam is no more under vail as well as any other mountains under vail that had post-season jams

R.I.P may day at boulder as well

What I was mainly referring to ? Big Boulder was my local before the buyout :((((

I am a refugee as well, vail bought my shitty local hill in Cleveland and the parks went from already really bad to even worse. So much so that it's no longer worth me going there even though I live 5 min away. I drive an hour each way instead. Sad, vail literally killing parks across the country

I grew up watching iconic edits that feature Boulder and it blew my mind it was 20min away from me. Parks in the Pocono region are slim to none so it really was a spectacle. I really couldn't wait until I was 16 and had a car so I could drive to ski at Boulder. I was only able to manage one season of that before the Parks were decimated... was a simple dream

where do you ski now?

Stuck between driving an hour south to Bear Creek or an hour east to Mountain Creek. Neither come close to the level BB was on but it's better than the local horribles like Shawnee Mountain or Camelback.

And Blue Mountain can suck my dick with their pass prices, if I remember it was 80$ 4hr lift tickets opening weekend last year...

I’d go to creek personally. Never been but it looks like Pat Morgan had been killing it over there

There isn’t ever any snow. The flat part at the bottom they usually have to push snow on every weekend for the last 3 weeks to get to the lift.

wow look at the webcams, its almost gone now its crazy there was still so much last week

Yeah I mean it makes sense. Last weekend the trail had full coverage (except the top of the head wall come sun/mon) but there were a ton of spots that had like only like a foot of base left. This week started hot and was suppose to rain hella. We missed a lot of rain and this is still what happens. Idk how killington thought they could do another full weekend…
