How is skiing a lyestyle

im writing a research paper on skiing and how it evolved from work, to winter fun like sledding to a life style that we all here on newschoolers are all living.

i know what i have to say about it but i need some First-hand sources that are not me so let me hear it

what do you have to say about skiing and its life style....

Skiing is just something I do. Its an activity, like watching tv or going bowling. I don't think I base my life around a hobby.

Allthough... I do have this sweet tatoo...
 
let me rephrase somethings. i dont mean skiing controles r lifes

but the music you listed to the way you dress and talk

skiing is more than a sport like football it

considered to some a life style sport what are ur thouhgts
 
Clothes: I wear my ski jacket everywhere because I cant afford two coats.

Music: Unno, I like reggae and ska so I ski to reggae and ska.

Talk: I try to not get to slanged out and steezy but there are kids who can spin slang like fitty.

Money: I dont have alot because skiing is expensive. (and I'm in college)

Friends: I hang around with the other skiiers at school and go find jibs and whatnot with them.

Food: I've put on a solid 5 pound just from poutine.

Language: I hate the french regardless.

urban style: is there an urban ski style?

identity: Always trying to seperate myself from racers and old people

Hows that alley cat?
 
my whole life revolves around it, like a crack head, or H addict, but im not addicted to skiing, jsut wondering when my next "fix" will be.. you get it? if you right abuot crank your sure to get a good grade.

Skiing definetely makes me who i am. Living in Michigan, there are no other freestyle skiers at my school. Sure there are some kids that ski on occassion with their families but no one else who rides twins let alone wears a ski shirt to school everyday. Everyone kinda knows that im "the skier". I get harrassed about it from the snowboarders quite a bit(cuz there's alot of em). But its all in good fun, nothing serious. I get a lot of my music straight from ski movies. For example, some of my favorite bands that i really like i first heard on ski movies, bands like millencolin and 1208 i listen to everyday. Although skiing is only around at most 4 months out of the year here, I am a skier all year round.
 
thats a shame, because in the words of pep fujas -

A life style is really very different from person to person. Take the first skiers for example they were vikings using wooden planks to get them selves across snow fields easier. I guess that is a lifestyle we could call it Viksnowbo.???? But really lifestyle is how you live life and is decided upon by every aspect of your life. On otherwords if your life style is based purely on skiing... you are... a ski bum. Every other life style is specific to that person alone. I wish people would stop catagorizing every little thing we do. Everyone wants to be in some sort of group and be needed or wanted. Well no one needs you... so instead of writing your paper on something as stupid as lifestyles which really is just a pop-culture term, how about writing about something completely out of the box and original. Like why all people should have to have turn signals built into their clothes. Peace. Breed Love not hate.
 
thats pretty much exactly how i work, and hes right, if you write about crank and darwins theory, you WILL get an A.
 
I moved to tahoe because of it, i spend all my money on it. I miss my family because of it, i have ruined relationships with friends and girlfriends over it. i plan school and work around skiing and i sleep in my ski boots, All my friends are skiers, i only party with skiers( lately) i like bunny rabbits and skiing is fun.
 
yeah my i told my mom if i cant ski like everyday during college im not going.

and she got pissed and said i should think about my future and being sucessfull and all that gay shit.
 
Skiing is my life. I have turned it into my job and travel the world in search of snow. I spend half the year in the southern hemisphere & the other half in the north. All my money is spent on ski gear. All my freinds are skiers or boarders. The money is not great & I live out of a suitcase but it's tradeup, lifestyle or money. I tried the money & I was super bored sitting behind a computer for 8 hours a day, so I jacked it all in & went skiing & I wouldn't swap!

i sincerely doubt that even 5% of NS actually lives the skiing lifestyle. Yes, I believe that all of us(with a few exceptions) love skiing and couldnt imagine life without it, but those who genuinely have their life completely revolve around the sport are few and far between.
 
Skiing is a lifestyle for some and then there are the wannabes. the kids that make sure to read every inch of freeskier, but the "coolest" skis even though they cant ski.. Its like buying a $600 pair of sticks then putting marker m31's on it with a pair of salomon performa4 boots. those are the people that ruin this sport. I ski because ive been doing it since i was 4 and i just always look at winter as a time to ski.

Im all for people trading in the one plank for a pair of sticks, but they are crowding our terrain parks sittin on landings and waiting for their chance to do a daffy.

Stop calling it your lifestyle just cause you saw it on tv
 
i agree i was just trying to get people to respond u know, im sure that less than half of us are true core skiiers, and even less whos lives evolve around it
 
its a lifestyle when you drop everything even your girlfreind and move to whistler as a ski bum, and ski every day.
 
^ more like when u cant afford that so u spend nights in your car at the hill, skiing is a lifestyle when you a rockin duct tape, your skis are beat to shit, and u can still show everyone on the hill up, you travel the world for snow like somone said above and every job you've ever had was only so that you can ski or get cheap tickets ect.. and dont plan on having a solid relationship unless you can find a girl to do it all with you, which is rare. true ski bums are few and far but they live it up
 
When you take skiing seriously, and don't put much before it, it starts to effect you life in other ways- money. friends, etc
