How is it that pros always have next year's model ski in movies

I get it that they get stuff early but does that mean ski companies basically have the whole design for 2011 skis finalized and ready to distribute to pros right now? It just seems crazy early, basically we are always buying last years technology.

i made a slight mistake.... they always have this years model ski... but all the filming was done last year

For marketing and testing reasons.MarketingWould you feel the need to change your skis as much if you were seeing 2009 skis in this fall's movies ?You'd probably think : Why would I buy 2010 skis when all the pros in the movies are doing the craziest shits on 2009 skis ?TestingThey need to test those new "SPACE AGE" technologies with pros before selling them to you. For exemple the afterbangs, they've been testing them for a few years before putting them on the market. This means that some pros might have been riding them with invaders graphics 2 years ago without us ever knowing !
And yes all the pros know what will come out in 2011 and even beyond ! Right now, the engineers might be working on 2013-2015 skis !
HOLY CRAP ! THAT'S SCARY !

Alexis Godbout is skiing on all white salomon prototypes right now. Check his facebook dp.

yeah im sure marketing is a big part of it... i didn't think of that, this whole thing is still kinda crazy that the ski is like FINISHED so early before hand, an all white ski makes more sense

and yeah i get that like cars and computers and shit are basically done before hand but this is a ski we're talking about here

I heard Refresh was live. Next year's ski movies will be fully interactive. If you want Wallisch to throw a switch double lincoln loop (or Link and Loops as the kids are callin' them these days) all blunted to shit over Shawn White's private half-pipe, BAM you got it.

also they often have the graphics for next year already worked out but the actual ski is still under testing and modification...
so they're not necessarily riding "next" years model, they could just as well be riding an old design with new graphics....

prototypes, marketing, and testing, it's that simple.
Prototypes are made of next years model so the pros get them to ski as hard as they can, if anything goes wrong with the ski they can tell the guys who make the skis to get it fixed.
Marketing is simply so WE know what to buy next year, think about it, the first time I was Line Afterbangs was in Traveling Circus and that's when people started to say "I want A-Bangs". The pros ski them in advanced so that they can show them off
Testing is simliar to the prototype thing, but this time its with the final product so they can give reviews for magazines and stuff.
It's just a perk of being a pro.

Like in the armada factory video, its still fall of 2009 but the already have made some of the new outerwear which will drop fall 2010

It's all Special Effects and CGI!!!!!!
Freeskiing is all one big hoax, created by the government to brain wash people.
Tom, Henrik, Dumont, Tanner etc are all animations.

when your factory sponsored, you are essentially an advertisement tool for the company. so when they have new ski's out that arent released yet to the public, the pro's will be riding on them.

i used to get the next years race ski's when i was on Head and Tyrolia.

and pro model skis take a while to perfect they will ride them all season to make sure the exact specs are perfect for them then when they are ready you buy them pretty good system id say

yeah cause in the first season of traveling circus they had like the anthems and afterbangs out pretty early

this is true for most larger companies. i got the 09/10 armada catalog in november 08 with full specs and graphics on everything in their line

I've heard Schmies say in October or maybe earlier that he was working on the K2 graphics for the following year, so who knows.

they just need to test shit, they arent gonna work on the skis and have non-pro company workers test skis that are being made for pros stomping real tricks. the athletes are sponsored/hired as advertisment tools and testing tools, they have to help the company get the right types and good quality skis on the rack as well as get them off the rack by convincing people they should buy them.
