How is Alta doing

I heard the winter was on the warmer side this year In UT, was wondering how Alta is right now? Going in a few weeks and would love to actually ski some deep snow. Went to pc last year and it was worse than the Midwest the same week.

Snow has been minimal on the Wasatch this season. Brighton has the most base (I think) and conditions for powder are nonexistent in-bounds there. Can't speak for Alta personally, but you're not going to be skiing much "deep snow" unless the weather suddenly flips and we get a few feet. This is a park/street season no doubt.

Youd be lucky to come and ski powder. There has only been a couple good storms this season. Best bet would be probably be Brighton.

i was at alta during christmas n i actually started crying when i found out only like 40% of the mtn is open :'(

So do I pack my 3.0s and hit Alta or the vishnus and go to Brighton

Brightons park is going off lately but Alta still has been fun with the low tide. Still a safer bet to go to brighton though

I'm conflicted... Maybe I'll just take the 3.0s to both

I ski at snowbird which gets a similar snow fall as Alta, seasons been pretty bad, I don’t think you will be finding much powder in bounds at Snowbird or Alta, probably a safer bet to go to a more park oriented resort like Brighton if you enjoy skiing park. Have fun though!

Yeah. I might just take my 3.0s and charge around Alta anyway just to enjoy a mountain... I ski park all the time here in Wisconsin so a change of scenery is nice

alta is full open now and no matter what it is a more fun mountain than brighton unless you are looking to exclusively ski park. if you're looking for a change of pace from the midwest id say you should just go blast around alta

As far as skiing deep snow goes - your trip is in a few weeks, man. Weather patterns change daily. There are lots of resources on the Alta and Snowbird sites to track systems. Along with opensnow.com. PC will have considerably less snow that LCC/BCC, but more tourists. If you're in to that.

low tide and the wasatch has been getting skunked by shit either going north or south. snows still holding on barely, though. pretty sharky still off the runs so dont be surprised if you wind up with a few base dingers or two.

definitely not as good as last season, probably wont be, but there is still so much season left. no need to hit the panic button yet. just come out and enjoy yourself, its still a ski trip.

out of curiousity, when did you come out last season? the wasatch back (PC/Canyons/Deer Valley) lucked out far too many times with the SW flow and in some storms and got pummeled. I think we got away in the month of january with like 187" in like 4 weeks almost? utah typically gets most of our snow during the 2nd half of winter/spring.

I was at pc last year around the same time. High 30s hard pack and ice. Not the best but I could appreciate longer runs

I was at Alta last weekend and theres no reason not to go there. Its such a fun mountain and there were tons of cliffs and jumps that were hittable. The base is definitely low, but in a few weeks you could get lucky with some fresh snow. Seemed like all the major runs were open, just that some of them were a bit crunchy underneath.
