How important is the shock absorber pad on Rossi Scratch/Look Jib bindings?

I ordered some new skis online and I got them in the mail today, and they came with the bindings already mounted. The bindings are '07 Rossi Scratch 140s, but the shop that mounted them forgot to put in the shock absorber pads under the heel and toe pieces. Is this a big deal, or do those shock absorber pads even matter all that much? Has anyone on here tried using these bindings without the pads?

And before you flame me for buying online and getting screwed instead of buying locally at a shop, you should know that I live on the coast 100 miles north of Los Angeles, so although there are surf shops everywhere, there is only 1 ski shop within about 50 miles of me, and it's a crappy shop. So yeah, I bought my skis online, cuz it was really my only option.

the only problem i could see that would arise from neglecting to install the shock pad would be the screws being too long and poking out of the base. maybe not the whole way through, but those pads are definitely a few mm's thick, and that would make a difference mounting into a ski that's two centimeter's thick.

it's basically mounting with / without lifters, so I'd assume the shop would correspondingly change their screw length, but you really never know, there's so much b.s in ski shops now a days.

The lift and ever so slightly more leverage to the ski in a fall scenario, increasing the torque applied to the knee

seriously? i really didnt think it was even that big of a deal. the rise is like 2mm. that would create like a 1/3rd inch pound increase in torque haha. (not really but i figure its hella small and insignifacant.)

The shock absorbers can actually cause bindings to pull out easier. With no pad, the bindings don't move, the screws stay tight and everything is good. With elastic pads, the bindings actually move up and down on the ski a little bit. This adds extra force on the screws/core and can cause bindings to pull out.

Shock absorbtion should be in the boot, not the binding.

the lifters should only go on the toe piece not the heel piece i have those same bingings u should send them back

Don't worry - you are better off without the pads. I have mounted several pairs of various styles of px bindings (lifters and jibs) without them and as long as the dude mounting them adjusts the screw length all will be well.

Ok well despite there seeming lack of use, they actually are intended to increase the longetivity of the binding by reducing the stress on all the parts. I mounted my pxs with them because one, I knew Id be riding my skis for more than a year, and two, they look sicknasty with 06/07 trouble makers.

it doesn't reduce stress on any of the parts in any significant way. it may even, as has been suggested, increase the forces acting on the screws.

yuppers.

also it is basically just 1. an extra selling point. and 2. since the look PX 12 jib is designed to go on the trouble maker it matches the ski better.

i am sure it has some effect but none that you will notice. the post above me is very important to think about when mounting though(the one i quoted)

I might send an email to the place you bought them and make sure that thats not affect the warranty or anything.

Kinda a noobish question, but having the look px12 jibs (green shock pad) could I just ask my shop to not put them on when mounting it on my skis? Is their more harm done having them on than good? thanks guys i'm not an expert in bindings

the dumb asses at getboards sent my scratch 120's to me with only the risers for the toe pieces. When I sent them an email saying like hey wanna send me the ones that go to the heal pieces they were like They only go on the toes thats the way they are supposed to be. I just figured that they are so stupid that I cant even deal with them after that.. im just gunna have them mounted with no risers and have the shop used shorter screws.

wow. fight that please.

that site sucks and nothing will likely come of it, but maybe yours will be the email that breaks this cycle of stupidity.

Measure your toe and heel heights like they are just now. Rossi/Look have quite a lot of ramp to them so with toe risers only it might balance it out a bit, which COULD be good if you ski park. If they toe is higher than the heel though they'll ski weird. Get the heel lifters and you can add them in if you want.

ok so similar question relating to bindings. i had boulder ski deals mount my prophets without the lifters on my p12s. but when they did it they must have left one screw a little too long and theres a bump on my bases where the screw is pushing out the base.

what do you think i could request if i go talk to them about it. if i hit anything on that part of my base the screw could push through so that pretty much fucked my skis. any thoughts on it?
