How has the interwebz changed skiing for you?

TGR put together a somewhat thought provoking piece for The North Face's "The Rise" series.

The North Face: The Rise Ep. 9 - E-volution

I've been spending a lot of time working on a little project that explores this subject and I'm trolling for some insights from the greater community.

How has the internet changed skiing for you?[/b]

I'll go first:[/i]

Researching product is easier than ever, as well as learning about the terrain I want to explore, the athletes I look up to, and finding powder and steeps stoke in the middle of July. In short, it's just made my addiction worse.

Sincere feedback is encouraged, but I know that I'm probably asking for it with a troll like this.

I will use soundbites from your responses in a presentation at SIA and later at Dibraca \\\'14.[/b]

If you are interested, I will be presenting with Todd Jones, Todd Ligare[/b], and a few other awesome people at SIA at 9am Feb. 1 in the Bluebird Social Zone booth #278.

I'm also getting soundbites from TGR forums (Those have been pretty priceless. Whatever creativity is lacking in their insults is definitely more than compensated for with passion. It's truly poetic.) and NewSchoolers. It should be interesting to see the different perspectives.

Just saw this, figured I'd jump in.

The internet is what got me started in freeskiing in general. I only ever skied groomers, and I was getting tired and bored of skiing. Then one day, I found some Tom Wallisch and Simon Dumont edits, and those are what got me wanting to get into freeskiing. So the internet helped me to regain the passion for skiing that I used to have!

Ha yeah I remember seeing an edit of TJ Schiller from like 07-08ish and it got me wanting to try park. It took a while before I manned up to do anything, but with out internet, I probably wouldn't have known skiers even went in the stunt ditch.

Snow reports, buying crap, watching vids, heckling fools on NS. That's about it.

I think I would still ski park without the internet, I started skiing park because all of a sudden there were terrain parks at every hill, not because I saw an edit. Edits came later, and just get me stoked to ride.

I think this is a super interesting thread/concept.

I'll put up a response later, but here's the video as a placeholder

Watching edits over the summer is what keeps me going..

General stoke and inspiration for things i want to learn during the season

It help propagate my media for sure. Uploading on youtube or on NS is really easy. Now if I can get people to check my shit out!

It made me more aware of what was going on. Similar to the 80's with the introduction of full ski movies, skiing progressed wildly when people all over the world was discovering new ways to ski and huck.

I got to watch my favorite vintage movies from InspiredMedia

I used to snowboard but after watching edits for skiers I definitely found skiing to be more interesting so I switched over. Best decision I ever made.

When did you switch, I have the same reasons for switching. Goin hard my first season. Those reasons and the fact that you don't have to put bindings on lol.

Opposite for me, ns is a great stress reliever. I can focus better in school because I have ns to fall on.
