How hard is skiing?

most kids on here who havent skated are going flame about it but, if you've actually rollerbladed and tried to be good at it, its much harder than skiing. skiers do 1 or 2 switch ups on handrails with maybea 270 out, rollerbladers do rediculoud amounts of switch up and other shit and have like an inch of space to land on

You have to modify your body sooooo much to play professional football, you basically are superhuman when you get to that level.

I'm not flaming, I'm asking why you think so, and now that you've answered, my suspicions about why you thought so were right. What you need to understand is that skiing is not just park. What about the backcountry, cliffs, spines, steeps. Can you do any of those on rollerblades? No you can't, and backcountry is the more technical aspect of skiing. And also, those types of switch ups are ALOT easier on roller blades. It's way less weight, basically boots with wheels, so it's alot easier to throw that shit around than skis, bindings, and boots.

yes I definitely agree with you about that, but I'm just speaking of a part of skating, grinding, which there is hundreds of different variations of grinds you can do, to be able to do them all is difficult, to be able to mix them all up together and do them on handrails is extremely difficult, and to do them anywhere near consistently is almost impossible. And thats only one aspect of skating, there's still spins, flips, gaps park, halfpipe, and all kinds of other shit that is impossible to be good at all at once

as hard as i think skiing is, ive dabbled in a lot of sports, as well as played basketball at the collegiate level. golf and fencing require some of the most skill of all the sports i've competed in, lets see how many people can pick up a club and shoot even par within even the first year of playing. zero. same goes for fencing, the balance and body control along with quickness and hand eye coordination is amongst the highest in any sport. to compete at a high level, u have to be born with that, its not something u can just work on.

Remember we all suffer from a bias because we're skiers and have never played 90% of the sports listed at a high level.

List is flawed, says basketball requires more endurance than lacrosse, anyone who has played midfield knows that's wrong.

not really, my friend just took it up this year, started as a freshman in college, and he is already the fatsest on the team and a couple seconds off of world records

I think skiing, freestyle anyways, is more of a mental sport than anything and it requires mass endurance to hike a park or rail all day long or hike that sweet pow line. But thats just my two cents

It really depends on how you look at it. Simply playing basketball isn't a difficult thing to do and doesn't require a ton of talent, and there are certainly more people out there who can shoot 3 pointers than can do 360's on skis. But if you look at it on a professional level; the amount of talent, coordination, and just pure athleticism required to play basketball( or soccer, football etc) at a professional level is just so far beyond what is required of your average pro skier that it isn't even comparable. I think if you were to put an NBA pointgaurd or an NFL free safety on skis when they were young and motivated them to become as good as they possibly could, they could do some pretty ridiculous things on skis.

I think all sports are of the same difficulty it all depends on what commitment and level you want to take it to. If you dedicate you life to throwing darts and train for that all day every day it is just as dificult at any sport. It all depends on how hard you push yourself.

Thats true, it is almost impossible to compare the sports, there is no comparison really because your doing completely different things

agreed. it takes a lot of time and effort to get good at golf. also, hockey isnt that hard. amazing sport though, i played for 8 years, its really fun. you just have to know how to skate and use a stick.

A men to that

and the dumbasses at espn have never skied have they? No they just sit in a studio and do what they are told. and yeah skiing takes years to learn in all.

How many people in this thread have tried to say that one sport isn't very hard but another takes alot of time to get good at? Every single person here is proof that no sport is the "hardest." Everyone has different talents, EVERYONE might find one sport easier or harder than another because it came to them naturally or they worked super hard to get good at it. And you don't just have to be good at skating and using a stick. At the higher levels of the sport, it becomes VERY sophisticated, and physical talent just isn't enough once you get to the NHL or other leagues on the same level.

I know that. I was just using hockey as an example, because the dude said that hockey is easy, and you need to be good at two things, which isn't really the case with any sport.

i cant understand why hockey and soccer are in the top 10, there really not that hard compared to surfing or things liek that
