To solve global warming, they are thinking now of putting sunshades in space to delfect some of the suns rays to bring our temperature back down to pre-industrial tempatures.

Is it just me, or is this the stupidest fucking idea ever?

Earths plant life needs those UV rays to conduct photosynthesis.

This is a fucking bandaid on a missing limb wound...

 
well the keyword here is SOME of the UV rays, so its not like animal/plants will die. its a pretty stupid idea because it would cost so much damn money and how the hell are they even gonna make it?
 
Please read between the lines; we have, for billions of the years, been getting the same amount of UV rays from the sun.

How about we stop fucking polluting the sky which is trapping infared rays in our atmosphere instead of modifing the UV rays we recieve.

And just SOME? Kind of an understatement dont you think?

Some of the ice is melting at the poles...

Some of the places on the world will flood because of that...

Some of the people there will die...

 
How is it false?

More UV rays are penetrating the ozone layer in recent years because it is thinning. But the total amount of UV rays (in any wavelength) that reaches the earth from the sun hasnt changed.

The main reason behind global warming ced is that the uv rays enter the atmosphere (a natural process) and then the uv rays are absorbed by things on earth (water, land, pavement, etc) and converted into infared raditation which is what heats the earth. Some of this infared radiation is radiated back to space, while some is trapped in the atmosphere and radiated back to earth (greenhouse effect, its natural).

What isnt natural is the rising levels of shit in the atmosphere that is trapping more and more of that infared radiation that is supposed to go out into space, and in turn, heats the earth more.

So i suppose these stupid discs in space could work a bit as a last ditch effort, but why go down that road? It just gives us an excuse to keep fucking with the atmosphere. We need to fix the problem at the root, not modify the UV rays coming into the atmosphere. Eventually, this will lead to further degridation of the ozone layer, which will lead to the need for more disks/sheilds...where does it end?

When we stop fucking with the atmosphere.
 
Just to clear this up, this process goes in waves of highs and lows, but these waves of ups and downs dont correlate to any warming pattern.
 
what about like drilling a hole in the ozone and letting the co2 out?

Seriously, they should make a huge white space blanket and put it over the whole artic and antarctic.

that would work wouldnt it? cover the open water, so it stops absorbing the rays?

I dunno, I've always thought we shoud just run it's course... I've always wondered about whether 'global warming' is humanity's fault or not.
 
its not a shade like ont he window. It is shade created by shooting dust into the atmosphere like a volcanic explosion would do and I am all for it. Or we coudl just start a nuclear war and have a nuclear winter
 
I agree. We shouldnt change the environment because its so unstable. Any small change and it can be thrown off. We should only change the way that we live.

 
I remember seeing an article about doing a similar but opposite thing to terraform mars. I'm pretty sure it's all just theoretical stuff. When you're brainstorming solutions quantity is more important than quality.
 
No it's not. They are obviously really smart people who have to start thinking outside the box for ways to combat global warming. Everyone sits around and bitches about how much we all hate global warming, but when someone proposes an idea, everyone is just as quick to call it "fucking stupid". Well get off your high horse. Someone here is trying to solve a problem by proposing different ideas. Maybe this one isn't perfect, but it could be modified, I mean, everything has to start somewhere. Ideas lead to more ideas. And if you call the people who propose the ideas, "fucking idiots", they are going to stop proposing ideas. And by the way, I absolutely LOVE your proposal about global warming, let's just all stop polluting! And you have the nerve to call someone else stupid?
 
How about the best solution is often the simpliest.

Again, the best way to combat global warming is not to solve the symptoms, but to kill the root problem.
 
I read an article that its already past the point of no return and although keeping on polluting will accelerate global warming, simply stopping polluting will not accomplish solve the problem, we need pro active ideas like the big shade idea

Am I the only one here there actually thinks there isn't any global warming? My winter is being the coldest it's been in years.

I'm pretty sure that there is no big deal here.
 
your a fucking retard, global warming is a GRADUAL process, although year to year there is very little fluctuation in temperature, it all adds up. See graph below

they should just make them huge orbiting disks, like a sat. but way bigger. they'd travel so fast it'd just seem like cloud cover on a sunny day for awhile and they'd still be blocking UV wherever they were moving.
 
Unfortunantly it's not easy to get the billions of gas-consuming people to loose their way of transportation, lol.
 
i think we should just make a giant snow maker for the east coast. cuz manmade snow would be better than none. but who am i kidding we have some now. and they are calling for 1-3 feet tonight yay
 
i think you're taking it too literally. im sure they considered the importance of some uv rays hitting the earth. there are 3 kinds of uv light and there is one bad one that we shouldn't be getting, because of the break down of ozone in our atmosphere. there will probably be someone of filter that uv ray alone.
