How dull should edges be?

This is my first pair of skis, and I have been skiing rails with them for a few weeks.
My edges were already a little bit dull before I took them to the mountain, because I had used a sanding sponge to smoothen the edges out.
I can see they are becoming quite rounded off quickly ...

How dull are your edges? Like mine, less or more? Thanks.

those wouldnt be the suspects per chance? and i would just let them dull naturaly. after a day or two the edges will be dull enough.

sorry for the dub post but i only half read your question. what do you use your skis for? if its just slopestyle then edges matter much less than if its an all mountain ski.

It's my only pair of skis. (Suspects)Not that professional of technical, so just riding 50% park and just off the sides of the slopes, small bumps and jumps a little bit of powder once a while.

Thanks everyone. Bur Can someone post a pic of their edges? And how msny days in the park would you Think it would take before ill need New ones

I filed the shit out of my edges, just makes them feel so much more natural right off the bat. But that's just me it takes a long time to file them down to how i like them

my biggest skiing problem....
i want to be able to carve everywhere but sharpening edges on my parkskis just seems like such a no-go .....

nothing like letting the sparks fly when doing some night skiing with new park skis(even after sanding/filing em down)

hah my bases are all white too. i haven't had them waxed since like a year ago. but my last day is probably friday (if i feel like ice skating at mountain creek) so i'm not gonna bother.

this.... i love my edges extremely dull. but mine r so sharp its impossible for me to completely stop on a black diamond that has very hardpack snow or ice on it lol so it sucks

um?z

To OP your edges look like heaven compared to mine. Mine have burs and shit all over them.

how do you wax your skis? and how can you tell that you need to wax them?...i need to get better about taking care of my skis.

I wax my skis using a waxing iron and blocks of wax you can get at any ski shop. You iron the wax on, let it cool, then scrape the extra off and brush all the rest that you can off using a nylon brush. You can tell if your bases need wax if they start to turn white like in the pictures in this thread. If your bases are black (if you have black bases) and have a waxy feel to them then they don't need to be waxed.

this thread is a techs worst nigtmare. with edges you will know for sure if they need to be dulled otherwise leave them be. Also when you take your skis into your shop to get tuned go ahead and tell them you want a park tune or write it somewhere on the work order and they will get them where they ned to be

this is all correct pretty much but for a brush use a brass brush and you dont want them to fel waxy at all that means you need to scrape more. they should be way slick and you should be able to run your nails up and down them without getting any stuff under your nails

hand sharpening is the god of customization, personally i do it every few months on my T-Halls but its best to stay away from the middles if you like rails. sometimes its not to bad though because they dull after shreddin' the park a good 5 or 6 times

when they get white and fuzzy that means the p tex is drying out and wont absorb wax that good. to fix it you need to get your base beveled

Im pretty sure its impossible to tune to 85. Also why would you go the 87? You would use that angle if you were a racer and on edge ALL THE TIME.

Unless my meter is broken...

you realize that sharper edges help you stop easier on hardpack and ice right? thats the point of having edges

sharper edges also make it easier to stop quickly on rails, boxes, and other jibs. thats the problem with having edges

But he says he's having a hard time breaking on hard packed snow with sharp edges... Thats what does not make sense :)

Well if you do a ton of rails they will just get dull naturally, but if you want to actually carve get them sharpened up.

fucking wax them bro. and who gives a shit about edges. like tht dude said. ride em till theyre gone. then ride em some more. im gunna be riding my chronics into the fucking ground. or until they literally snap in half
