How does GoPro sponsor people?

This guy makes edits mostly like this lifestyle one posted below and I don't understand how that meets the criteria to be sponsored by GoPro. Do you guys know people who get free gear from them and what they put out? Interested in how this works because this seems so simple.

If you can show off GoPro products in a cool way and you're advertising to a big enough audience, they'll probably sponsor you. My guess.
 
After selecting a person for their team, via certain set criteria, they send a representative to your house to measure your penile girth and length. If you manage to posses the secret GoPro team girth:length ratio you are offered a contract.
 
90% sure that guys not sponsored by GoPro, especially considering he has 200 subscribers.... just because someone adds "GoPro" or uses a GoPro logo in their video doesn't mean their actually sponsored. Before GoPro was actually big, it was relatively easy to get sponsored by them... sort of.. at least compared to now. If you're trying to get sponsored by them, you better be a top athlete in whatever sport/activity you do, or be very popular on youtube (like at least 10,000 subscribers or more really). They have well known athletes now that they turn down because they can only sponsor so many.

If you do happen to get sponsored without those "requirements", it will probably just be a free camera or discount like 50% off, not actually getting paid by them.

I'll put the rumor to rest. That guy is NOT sponsored by GoPro!!! How do I know this? Because I am that guy.

However, I have received free GoPros from 3rd parties (like Squaw Valley, Ca) from contests and other give aways. The only thing I've received from GoPro directly was a free replacement GoPro from one that broke and they did give me half off of the GoPro 4.

No matter what I do or where I go I have a Nalgene bottle with a gopro sticker on it, they'll notice some day
 
That video was 3 minutes but felt like ten. I kept waiting for something to happen. Yay we rode our bike to church and then went swimming in a contaminated river!
