i was thinking about this. I mean does the mountain openly state what happens or do they leave that to someone else? i dont really know cause i ski on the lower east coast so all our snow is man made so avalanches and more common deaths dont occur like that. but I mean its gotta be scary for the owners and bad PR. but what really happens?

I dunno, as far as the incident at the canyons, the canyons has made several statements saying that they were not at fault and the skiers were on federal land. And im sure if there was a death at any resort they would make the changes needed to make sure it doesn thappen again

there were quite a few deaths at hood last year. Meadows just issued a statement I think. It was never their fault though, it was always the skiers'.

ill be super rich and own mt.hood and let everybody from ns ski for free... except freezed

I heard that Line is putting dust from the moon in their skis to make them not as influenced by the gravity of the earth. Has anyone heard of this new technology?

someone died at my mountain about two weeks ago

they hit a tree

they closed runs while the parson got airlifted out

i dont think it was ever publicly annouced

^ yea it's kinda crazy, but shit happens. i saw a boarder fly into a tree at copper while I was on the lift and then i went down the run and there were like 20 ski patrol dudes all around and i talked to one and he told me that the dude just died of massive injuries to his head. they came w/ the ambulance snowcat and took his body down.

Ooh this guy was super damaged but still alive, but they didn't want to touch him cause they might mess him up, so they scooped him up with a cat and drove him down to the ambulance. It was weird to see.

Resorts always make announcements through their Public Relations departments when things like that happen. I worked for Whistler for 9 years, and saw the process work. Obviously, they don't want lots of publicity around it, but releases are sent to the media.

yeah you always read a little blurb in the paper now and then about a death some ski resort. today i read that a 15 year-old from texas hit a tree at breck and died and last week someone else had died at a different ski resort. it's sad, but inevitable every year. and no one really sues resorts anymore because they've got the liablitiy all covered from past cases and the little waiver on the back of tickets.

i once saw a 500 pound skier crash into a chairlift pole. they couldnt roll him onto the skipatrol stretcher so they blew him up with an avalanch gun.

OK. Here is what happens. I know this because I worked patrol when there were some deaths.

As patrollers we are instructed that nobody dies on the mtn. We might know that it is hopeless but we are to maintain CPR untill they are declared dead by a Dr. away from the mtn.

Now sure there are times when 'Mr.Obvious' peaks his head out and you have to declare a death on the mtn. Then alot of people get involved. Especially if it happens on Gov't park land.

You have everyone from the Sheriff, Coroner, to people from the dept of the Interior there covering their ass. Each dept trying to schep it to another dept to keep out of lawsuit bullshit.

someone just died at killington a couple weeks back. My bud and i went down the trail he had died on and it was obvious that the accident had to have occured because of the skier. Its still really sad, but its a shame that a mountain has to get bad PR because of inexperienced skiers
