if you boil them in hot water for awhile they can be super easy to bend. or if you just torch em.

i sure would like to rest ... but the energy gets the best of me. its been a wild ride i wouldnt change a minute i cant slow down inside guess thats why i live it

boiling is not effective. torching can work, but constant sustained pressure works really well, just takes time, patience.

Get some shop techs to help you with it... especially ones that you give beer to...

actually boiling them is probably the best way to do it. you can heat them up with a torch or an iron but you almost always end up burning the base (course you are bending the skis, so it's not like you are gonna be that worried bout it). but give em a good long boil, then stick em in a vice and give them a bend. if you want a smoother curve, then you'll have to rig something up say with clamps to something such as a bandsawed board cut to the curve you want. then just let em cool while you are keeping them in the shape you want. then you got yourself a real home tuned pair of twin runners.

remember that you are shorting the tail alot, and that you should mount the bindings forward. the skis will be shorter too, so find something bigger then your normal size to start with.

vtrider reminded me of a couple things. mounting your bindings farther forward (would have to be mounted at least 3' forward) seriously affects the skiis ability to turn the way it was designed. just go buy a pair of twins man

take a hot iron as hot as it goes, and keep on holding it on the base and the top of the ski, and bend in between if u keep on doin this it will work , i have done it before.

yea, but mo-rod, you got to remember that he is prolly doing this to a pair of old junkie stright skis, which really doesnt have any negitave effect like a shaped ski will. it will be all good.

while that is prolly true vtrider, one has to also tell him that once its bent into a twin it puts extra tension throughout the ski to maintain its shape. this increases the possibility of snaps etc.

^ahh, also something that i did not think of. The bending of the skis would accentually stretch the base material, and compress the topsheet, which would make it more prone to breakage. kinda like how frist generation head skis were made, metal topsheet, p tex type base. base would stretch and metal would compress, cause it to ''spring'' back.

exactly. thats why blowtorch works best cause u can make the shape stronger. boiling never works

actually moving the bindings forward on any ski will affect the way it handles. whether or not you have old straights. nearly all skis since the early 80's have more material underfoot, where the binding is to be mounted. so moving the binding forward changes the balance of the flex of the ski. but, i really wouldn't worry so much about that, I mean you won't really want to take homemade twins anywhere but your backyard or to hit urban stuff. but hey, they are your skis and you can make them as you want.

I'VE DONE THIS with a buddy. Torches do burn the bases and boiling is just plain boring. Get a heat gun (like the ones they have in shops to warp boot shells). Put the ski in a viceapply heat gently, watch the bases, and bend, let set, the do it again untill you have a nice shovel. Voila.

good point dutch, but for this application, (jibbing around da house) he prolly wont be bending a ski to much to the point that flex patterns make to much of a differance. Just do this, find a old downhill derby plate and mount the bindings on that forward. just find one of those fuckin 90 cm derbys. that or just weld some 1/8 inch steel to the topsheet, make it nice and burly.

if those skis are just meant for jibbing in the backyard you dont need a serious shovel at all. u need the tiniest little twinnage on it. for that u can just bend it slightly. like honestly. I have a pair of fake twins, where I bent up the backs on them. they're a damn joke. I just used the iron on the base and to heat up the edge a little. then I used a torch for the top, threw it in the vice for a couple hours, and bent that shit up a bit. simple as pie. I would never use then while skiing though
