years ago, we built a gap over some trees. The guys I was with were a little better than me. The run-in was a little flat, so they hit the jump full blast and cleared the trees with room to spare. Therefore, I did the same. It was a big jump and I racked my first 2 tries but the landing was pow and most importantly, I cleared the trees. 3rd try I stuck the shit out of it and it felt good, I got better that day. My friend, who was not as good as me, decided the jump was scary and threw in several speed checks. He bit the trees. We laughed. He went again. He speed checked even more. He didn't clear the trees the first time and did even worse the second time. We laughed even harder. By his third time, he was scared of the jump, demoralized. If it hurt to go slow, then it would hurt even more to go fast right? His 3rd attempt was even more pathetic. At the end of the day, he didn't get any better, he got worse, he was scared of big jumps. So don't be a puss, go big and at least hit the landing. If you are going to get hurt, at least make it worthy.
