How do you send a trick you know you are gonna fall on?

Getting more into park skiing and trying to learn backside 270 off a rail. Can ride rail fine, can go off switch, but my body can’t commit to or even fully entertain the idea of trying a 270 off cause the odds of me landing it first time are pretty slim and the odds of me falling are super high. Any advice for trying a trick you know u most likely are gonna eat shit on Other than “just do it”?

Learn it on a small feature so the consequences are low

go slow the first time on a small feature so you can kind of slide out of it if you need and progress a little faster/ larger each time. Be prepared to have to huck it harder tho when you're going slow, so really work on setting your rotation and scissoring your front ski down. Having to throw it hard will help you get the commitment down though.

Make sure your 360s are down down. Then take it to small boxes until you feel you got it 100% of the time. Feeling fine with spinning is the only way to get over the mental block.

For sending trick I know Im going to fail, there are 2 choices: dont do it until you are ready or do it in consequence free conditions. Stuff like 360s, you gotta do em and your gonna crash a lot before getting it. Its best to do it when you are feeling great or when you get the softest landing.

Find some setup with soft snow so you can focus on the movement without having the thought of a icy crash in your mind.

Change your mindset. Going into a trick with any thoughts of failure is bad. Before trying anything, I always visualize the trick over 10 times, focusing on the little parts that make the possible. You would be surprised how close this will get you to landing the trick if not landing it first try.

Let's say you have a full day before you head up to your mountain to ski. Think about that trick. For a back 270 think about how you want to hop on to the rail. Think about how you dip your toe on your front ski. Think about the friction that you will feel and how it will help you initiate that spin. Think about being patient and waiting till the end of the rail before popping the 270. Think about where you can look and spot the rotation. Most of all think about the landing and how you will feel when you land it.

Im not amazing at skiing, but just by visualizing stuff I have been able to do things on skis that I never thought I would be able to do. This works for everything, jumps, rails, even getting the girl ;)

Good trick selection. My advice for backslide 270 is one, pick a small feature that is greasy like a tube or propane tank. Then, do 6-10 to switch with a fair amount of speed (speed is your friend with most tricks, especially with this one because you're balancing on one foot). Once you feel comfortable with going to switch several times in a row, go for it.

For this trick, I'd expect to fall a couple times so picking a small feature where the consequences aren't too high is crucial.

When you're ready to go for it, I find it helpful to start initiating the 270 when you get on the rail, but everyone has their own techniques so try what feels best for you. Best of luck, solider!
