How do you keep your lower body warm while skiing or in frigid temps?

I'm picking up some new ski socks soon and it got me thinking....what do you guys do to layer your lower body? I've been looking at base and mid-layers for my upper body but I never really thought about my legs until now. I'm moving to Big Sky in a week, so I'd like to get all my gear ahead of time. Thanks in advance, y'all.

I generally use the 260 thread count Ice breaker base layer. If its cold I have the Orage hybrid pant which has some synthetic down to the upper leg. Those and a good base you will be set in all temps. I have shell and insulated pants but generally only wear the insulated when im stood on hill doing demos.

I don't have much experience in really cold Temps but they make different weight base layers and insulated ski pants. Some folks wear fleece pants between base layers and shells.

Everyone's personal comfort levels differ when it comes to warmth. Personally, I'm fine in just a 3L shell pant and a ~150 g/m2 merino base layer legging for all days until it gets down below ~10°F. If it's colder than that, I'll wear a heavier base layer like a 250+ g/m2 merino or heavy synthetic like the Patagonia Expedition Weight Capilene. For brutally cold days I'll use an insulated 3/4 pant like the one mentioned above or the Arc'teryx Axino Knicker.

I always wear some wool long johns, but recently I bought some fleece pjs and cut them off into shorts to wear under my pants (which are just a shell) when I'm skiing. Super warm, don't get in the way of my boots, and only cost 10 bucks

I know a kid that always drives to the hill wearing fleece pjs and then he puts his shells on in the lot. One day he forgot his ski pants and just skied all day in GI Joe Pjs. Kinda cracked me up because the kid is probably about 50 years old and he still goes big in the park in Pjs.

Personally I decided I hate having a cold butt so I've been wearing some wool base layers and insulated FD bibs. When I get too hot I can always zip open my vents and let the wind come in or take off a mitten. I'll be pairing this down considerably once it gets sunny but lately it's been so dark and sometimes like zero degrees when you factor in the wind chill.

Usually just UA cold gear or similar brand, then fleece or polyester sweatpants, then snowpants. Plenty warm enough for even the coldest temps if you're skiing.

U.A 2.0 baselayer leggings

Swazi fleece pants

Trew outerwear

I use that for the coldest of conditions. However I heat up super quick and don't mind the cold.

I have under armor 4.0 base layer pants for when it’s frigid. I won’t wear them unless it’s below 20 degrees. Above that I just wear my crash pads and have 3L non insulated bibs. Have skied in -20 windchill without issue with just the 4.0, crash pads and bibs. Things are stupid hot and worth the $$$.

I need to get those hybrid pants. How's the fit on them? Im usually a medium for baselayers from TNF, UA, Craft, and IB. Our shop just picked up Orage after a brief hiatus.

You should be good with a med. have you seen next seasons range yet from Orage? Some seriously nice stuff. Orage is coming back and I’m stoked.

I get in wednesday night. Definitely plan to check out Comor. I use to visit the Kitsilano location when it was open. Boxing day sale + currency conversion meant my ski bag was quite a bit heavier going home
