How do you guys deal with Session-Ending Injuries?

Question is the title -- how do you guys deal with injuries that force you to end your *CURRENT* day on the slopes but not your season or anything.. I find myself now routinely skiing until I hurt myself good enough to end my day (and usually, keeps me off the mountain for 1-2 weeks at a time).

2 weeks ago I fucked my knees up with an MCL sprain and bone bruise. Today I think I sprained/bruised my AC joint in my shoulder trying a nose butter 3 but caught me edges and landed on the knuckle right on my shoulder/AC joint.

Do a lot of you guys get bad bruises/sprains that keep you out for days at a time? I can't imagine how some of you guys get 40, 60, 80+ days in the park every year. My goal is to get 15-20 days this year but I will probably top out at 10-12 days. I think since I know I won't get that many days I push myself harder and it ends up getting me injured and having to take a week or two off at a time.

Luckily no season ending injuries yet but damn I am really giving my body a beating this season.

I have only had to end my day early two times really

First time I was in 7th grade and took a super flat landing off of some side hit or something and bruised my heel, Second was a couple weeks ago when I forgot to cut my toenails and lost both of the ones on my big toes.

First one made walking/standing kind of difficult, so I just kind of went home.

Second one hurt crazy bad having my toenails loose in my boots stabbing me so I went home and just kind of taped up my toes, and drove home.

So yeah nothing too serious compared to your stuff, only thing I have ever had on that level was I bruised my leg from my knee up really bad from hitting a snowmaking pipe, but that was my last day of the season (and last run) anyways.

I have had both of those same injuries. Except my knee injury was a little worse, and it was in the summer. As for the AC joint....I just kept skiing and made sure to not go to hard/not fall on that shoulder. Worked well.

I probably did another 5-8 runs after injuring my shoulder today but it just kept nagging me and since I've gotten home the pain has gotten significantly worse. On the runs I did after it I was just skittish, worried about hurting it more and ended up falling on some rails I normally would ride no problem. Didn't go too hard on the jumps either because landing was kind of painful and didn't want to wash out with my arms in an awkward position.

Hopefully with some ice tonight it is just a mild sprain. I was hoping to hit an Air Bag on Friday and iron out some new tricks so I'll be pretty disappointed if I can't get up there this weekend.

@Wskier, damn man good for you. I just can't imagine myself progressing without enduring injury. My goal is to progress and take the new tricks with the injuries while not enduring anything season ending. I'm trying to go hard this season to get a nice base-level for Windells/MSHCC camp this Summer.

Or maybe I'm just old .... turning 26 in March but I feel like I can still take a fall and roll with the punches like the best of 'em.

Had a day-ender for the first time in a couple years a few weeks ago. Over-rotated/shot the landing on a backie on a super icy day. I knew immediately I was done. Concussion. Bad back pain for a good week, but I still feel it if I sneeze or in certain positions. I went to my parents' house and hot tubbed that shit.

What happened to me was I went off a wooden/stick jump and somehow caught my front edge and went head first into rocks(thank God for helmets). I ended up pushing a bone into the tendon and crushing it. At first it didn't hurt that bad. But the next morning it was pretty bad. This was because the tendon was swelling and was bruised. I was told to ice it and do some light stretching. Once you have full movement start doing some light exercises. Of course I'm not a doctor though, and it may be a good idea to see one.

Yah the impact leads me to believe the tendon was just impinged a bit. I don't think it will be as bad as the knee injury and I imagine I will be back on skis in a couple of days. Hurts like a bitch right now though I think I'ma just smoke some weed and pass out.

Stretching before and after, ice after, physiotherapy, and repeat. I've got that patellofemoral syndrome so one deep landing and my knee is in pain.

I twisted my knee pretty bad on Monday, how long should I give it? I've been icing it every night and it doesn't hurt anymore

dont be a pussayyyyyyy

my ac joint is shredded (grade 2 separation) but you bet ill be out there sending it this weekend

i separated my a/c joint in my shoulder a few weeks back... you can still ski just take it easy, only do suff you KNOW you won't eat shit on and make your injury worse. Maybe do some filming for the homies.

p.s shotgunning beers and fat joints help allot.

If it feels like it's healed, you're good. When I get a knee injury I just make sure I feel stable on it, and that I can have full range of motion and can take the impact of running and jumping without pain. If you're still worried about it, wear a neoprene brace the next time you ski, just to be safe.

That's that East Coast ice for you baby. Every fall is like landing on concrete.

PS: whoever mentioned a neoprene knee brace is right. I picked one up yesterday that thing worked like a charm. The added pressure initially caused the knee to hurt a bit but once that went away it gave it added stability and shock absorption on jumps.
