How do you cork something

i hear that you just drop your shoulder or reach for the outside part of your opposite boot. You should be lost for a part of the spin, but you will righten out if you do it correctly.

watch some videos of AtA. 4bi9. and whoever they have it down. you kinda throw and drop your leading shoulder. thats how your supposed to do em, but i can't never tried.

i wanna get my tramp set up, cuz that sounds so much better than landing on icy snow at high speeds.

Kidz never learn

This is the revised edition, I decided that starting over with a new thread would be cleaner. Ok, revised through your comments and suggestions, this is Trick Guide: Version 2.

Before reading this, I’d just like you to know that this was my best attempt at this, and that it took me many hours to get this together. I have a huge archive of good NS video’s on my computer, but its damn hard finding the original pages in the video section of NS.

Another cool note here too: These are all video’s from NS members! Way to go guys, some of these video’s are damn classy. I kinda had fun making this because I got to see how much talent our members have. We rock! Check out the video’s below if you don’t believe me.

(Disclaimer: If you see yourself in a video that I’ve used and want to have it removed (for some reason I really cannot imagine, you did post it for the public) then just PM me, I’ll talk to a Mod and get it removed for you.)

Thanks, enjoy what I’ve come up with:

Cork

A cork is a off axis spin that is leaned back, but so that the rider does not go inverted at any point. It is a popular trick, and many pro’s and amateurs do these very well.

Bio

A forward corking non-inverted spin. Note the lean the rider has forwards at about 360. Also, see CR Johnson in SM2, SM3 or Propaganda, he does them best.

D-spin

Set the same way a cork is, but is more leaned back. A d-spin is essentially any cork where you become inverted. In all of these videos note how the feet will go above the head. Evan Raps does these very well, also see Mike Douglas.

Rodeo

A rodeo is not an off axis spin like a cork, d-spin or bio. It is a spin with a FULL inversion, aka, the riders feet at some point in the spin go directly OVER his or her head. See Mark Abma in Yearbook for a very sick and slowed down Rodeo 7. Also, Mike Wilson rules at these, see Ready, Fire, Aim for some huge ones.

http://media.nscdn.com/uploads/member/videos/1149449723Seth%20Rodeo.wmv

Flatspin

Flatspins are very close to rodeos. They are thrown almost the exact same, but the difference is that in a flatspin, the rider never gets completely inverted. Heres a way to think about it: A line extending through you from your head to your toes when you stand up. In a rodeo, this line ends up completely inverted at some point (although your feet can be somewhere else, like leaned back in a tail or a mute or something) while in a flatspin, this line never reaches true vertical. The line between what is a rodeo and a flatspin is understandably very blurry, especially when one considers tweaked grabs and such.

Misty

A Misty is the counterpart of the Rodeo. It is a spin with a front flip. Note in these how you can see the skis go OVER the persons head and wrap around.

Underflips

An underflip can easily be mistaken for a rodeo or a misty. It’s an odd rotation: a 90 degree turn off the lip, followed by a lincoln loop up the hill (head faces jump followed by feet) to another 90, landing backwards. See niklas karlstrom in teddybear crisis up the step-up, or in X off of a small snowbank. Vincent Dorion also does these well.

Overflips

Baisically the opposite of an underflip, commonly mistaken for a misty 5. 90, lincoln loop downhill (feet face jump followed by head) to another 90, landing backwards. see mike wilson in ready, fire, aim or in superpark 2. These do look almost exactly like misty’s. Searching on NS, I could only find one video of an overflip, and it wasn’t that great of an example. We need your video!

You see, these suck, we need better ones.

Backflips and Frontflips

Pretty self explanatory. Here are some don in my favorite style – incredibly huge.

Lincoln Loops

A single inversion, with no spin. Basically, just a cartwheel, where the rider flips to the side, doing a barrel roll. These are usually done off cliffs, especially when Seth Morrison is around.

Kangaroo Flip

Jon Olsson, Sweedish wonderboy, pulled off this trick at the Jon Olsson Invitational this year (2006), blowing the other simple spins out of the water. It’s a double flatspin by many peoples terminology. With Mike Wilson pulling off double corks, expect to see more of these ‘double inversions’ in the near future. This will no doubt make this guide a whole lot longer.

^ thats neat but doesnt really help much with telling him how to do a cork. I can only do cork 7s as of now cause i learned them at the very end of this season. When i pop off the lip i just look at my back binding on the side im spinning to. So i spin left so i look at my back left heel piece. If that isnt getting your very corked just look farther back, say at your tail. By doing this you can set the amount of cork you need. Im not sure how well that technique would work for lower spins. Also, i dont carve at all for the cork 7. I hear that for cork 3s and 5s it helps to carve on the lip to set the cork, and then you just drop your shoulder. hope that helps

Here is how i learned how to cork things.

First, I learned how to throw a really decent 540 opposite tail. (if you spin left, throw semi hard towards your left tail, and when you begin to spin, your hand will be right there to grab the tail.

For the longest time, i tried to do cork by just throwing super hard towards my tails. My problem was that only my upper body would cork, and i would then spin my way through the spin.

One day I was lapping the park with two friends, and we were all trying to get cork spins nailed. On a whim, i decided that I would lay off how hard i threw my spin, and instead, pop off of my right foot super hard. The result of this was about halfway between an underflip and a legit cork 5. I found that with the varying pressure that i popped with, i would be less or more corked.

The biggest thing i can stress, that will help you the most:

People always focus on the way you throw your spin, they say things like "throw towards your feet, or drop your inside shoulder. Yes you have to do all of these things, but you also have to get your legs to follow suit. It may scare the piss out of you the first time you do it, but just try it over a relatively large jump. The first one I ever attempted was landed sloppily on a 35 foot stepdown. When I was coming into the jump, i was totally confident that i would cork, and get my feet back under me

oh ya, good advice there with letting your legs go corked, along with being confident. You gotta be confident and know what you're gunna do. Know that your legs are going to be coming out to the side, corked, and be confident that they'll come back underneath you, dont fight it. If you fight your legs you'll just uncork yourself the second you set the cork. Just let it flow.

cork 7 is not a hard trick.. just try to make the straight 7s first.. then just relax and tilt backwards in the kicker..

punch with your hand down back as if your trying to reach for your tail..

well.. its hart du explain.. just try it.. i cant go so damn bad.. ju allways land on your foots* (how do you say? feats? haha)

dude. that was Rowen's. dont take fucking credit for what he did. you could of atleast credited him with this. wow

YO.

Alright, for a cork 7, if u spin to the left, it's like thinking of spinning around your left shoulder.

The way i learnt them on tramp, was throwing my left shoulder back almost like a full or something. But you learn how to mellow it out.

Later on, you can more spin 7, then drop it.

this is opinon cuz i still have problems with cork 5 but i got cork 7's and 9's on lock

it may not be the easiest, but its best to learn at the lowest spin i believe. alls you have to do is think, and you will learn the cork. typing bibles may help, practice makes perfection.

haha i just started learning these on the tramp i just bring my shoulders down and look under my arm and throw pretty hard

I can't get cork for shit.

Trying them on my tramp. I spin right, so drop my right shoulder and reach for the outside of my right foot with my left hand.

But i just seem to skat out, and end up with my feet level with my head, landing on my back.

What do guys reckon? Am i not looking enough? Help would be good.

i need a tramp. I gotta work on the degree of invertedness to set each rotation of a cork at. I got cork7 on lock, and i was real close to getting cork 9 last year as well but i tried a cork 3 once and muscle memory kicked in and i ended up throwing a cork 7 off of like a 10 foot jump.

yea right you just carve out the jump

corks you have to accualy drop your suilders and every thing

its a personal opinion

cork 3 are just simple
