how do you build a good jump?

alright i live on the east coast. the snow isnt that good for making jumps. i obiously know how to make a jump. but im open for any suggestions. how do the pros make their jumps?? cuz they have like chunks of snow. how?? thanks

what i usually do is get into the snowpack thats underneath the fresh stuff. You cut out chunks of it and pile it. then its just a matter of packing with shovels and ski packing it. it takes a while, so don't puss out when you're tired. also, bring a few friends and a bunch of shovels to spread out the work. other than that, be sure to plan your jump so your landing is downhill and that you have plenty of space if you happen to screw up.

bring ppl who are willing to work for a good hit...i usually end up with a few clowns that are little bitches about it and start complainin after half an hour

need a good spot with an ok inrun and a good landing. Use continue to make packed layers upon layers and remember its a bitch so if you want something thats gonna be worth all the time you are about to put into it don't say...oh it will be good enough as it is...then the jump breaks when you hit it and you wasted an hour making a pile of shit when you could have taken another half hour or hour to make something epic. Thats my experience. Good luck. GET SOME FRIENDS THAT WONT PUSS OUT ON YOU ALSO, THATS IMPORTANT. If they all leave...youv got hardly any shot.

usually helps cuz it melts some of the snow into water to increase the water content of the snow

not quite that simple...im gonna try that salt idea

Find a good spot that has a good inrun and a steep landing. Make it big. Bring some water cause u get thirsty. make sure it is packed down good you want to be able to wald over it and not have your foot break through. I love jumping.

alright we just got dumped on with some semi wet snow, which is pefect so ill try all of that thanks

build a base today! tomorow youll be able to roll big balls of snow down the hill to your jump

I went off the jump thinking, I'am the jump...but i still narfed it. rv

just shovel a bunch of snow in a big ass pile. then belly-flop all around it to pack it down. cut out the shape of a jump with a shovel. Douse it in water so it is slushy. Let it freeze overnight. Tomorrow you have the most perfect jump. Belive me. It doesn't get more east coast than maine

make the transition smooth! I see so many kids making these tiny jumps with so much lip it just bucks them straight up

yeah we got dumped on and still are, the snow is the best its ever been all winter so me and some friends went to this place in the woods that we usually make jumps, and we build a 6 ft high booter and it was soooo sick. i tried to guiney 5 it and just landed in 2 ft of snow. it was godly

u put ur skis vertically to make the front of the jump then move them sideways to form the sides. You must be retarted if you dont know how to build a jump

no its actually harder to make a real big jump. the pros use like 5-10 coolers they pack snow in it (generally powder) and salt it to get it to pack they then pack the shit outta them so they are very packed/icy. then they let it freeze for however long it takes sometimes 4 hours. then the stack em up and keep doin this until they have a base where they can put snow on top and make it look more like a jump. for something that can be accomplished in a day bring lots of friends shovels sleds salt and lots of water and misters. you really only need the salt and misters if its powder. and who ever said makeing jumps in the east is hard cause the snow is dry is a moron. this is one of the first years where the east has gotten real powder most of its really wet cause were at such a low elavation. THE BIGGEST MISTAKE PEOPLE MAKE is pileing the snow on too fast then packing it. to make a sturdy jump you really need to pack it none stop youll know your doin it right if you work for an hour and the jump doesnt look very big yet. makeing a quality jump will take 1-4 hours min. depending on how large the jump is.

only advice i can offer is to take your time and dont make the lip too outrageous. i try to mimic the jumps at the park. the table is really mellow so you are able to spin off of it easier. good luck building

ive built a lot of jumps and its not hard, unless the snow is really light and fluffy. Just make a pile and pack it as you go and then shape it once youve got a huge pile of snow.

if the height of the booter is 10ft...then the tranny should be at least 15-20 ft depending on your ramp angle...

if you want a booter to send you high, 15ft tranny into it.

if you wanna fly far, 20 ft for the tranny...

work to live...not live to work.

work to ski...but only if you ski to work. The simple equation to skibumming 101

...i didnt do it

I just built a 6ft. high by 4ft. wide booter outside with this new snow. By myself it only took and hour and a half.

i prefer to just use those big plow shovels and make the biggest pile of snow i can, only vaguely in the wedge shape. Then i pack it down really hard and shovel off the sides of the jump onto the top. That way the jump's base is super solid and then you can cut out big chunks to get the right shape. Also, bigger is better, build the kicker bigger and make the lip smaller.

As someone partially mentioned, waiting over a night gives you good results. Even dry snow will pack up in cold temperatures.

i would search for a foreign kicker and try to extend. so u can really have a good jump

u won´t believe what i´ve done!
i climbed the moutain of hope.
u don´t know what i found up there?
i´ll tell u!
a pacifica

its easier if u try to build it off a bump or something thats already there
