How do u know then ur MCL, is gettin close to being torn?

If it hurts, and you truely think something is wrong, get an MRI, thats the only way you can tell. i thought mine "partially" torn, and it didnt hurt too bad, got an MRI and the whole thing was completely torn. don't waste any time, it's still summer time bro, if you think something is wrong, get it checked out asap, or you could potentially be looking at sitting next season out.

same as my hamstring...i tore it 2 months ago but didnt feel it really just until a few weeks ago. I still did everything on it and when it started becoming sore i thought it was just pulled, but its not. So basically get it checked out even if it doesnt seem bad

I messed my knee about two months ago and could barly walk on it for a while and didn't get it check out. then i went to mammoth and at the end of my first day just ollied and when i landed my knee collasped and i could not walk for about a week and a half. I am just starting to use a cain to walk. My advise is if you have insurence use it and get yourself checked out

Definitely have it looked at I torn my acl and didn’t realized it until the start of the season and I ended sitting out last season.

can you pin point when it started to hurt? A lot of times when you fuck up your ACL you will hear and feel a "pop" in your knee. I blew my knee out 6 years ago and my mom actually just tore her ACL hiking a few weeks ago. In both cases we felt and heard a "pop". Don't shrug it off...get it checked out. Think about this...you only have a little tear that could be easily fixed, but you don't fix it. The next time your knee takes a good twist, you blow your entire knee out, not just your ACL.

when shane mckonkey(sp) tore it in hitlist he could move his knee in and out of the socket and shit, it was pretty gross

i can't think of a time where it popped, it's just been sore, and I wanted to know what some of the effects or like symptoms of it being hurt were, i'm real confused.\

I'm assuming if you didn't keel over in a ball and yell how terribly your knee hurt the minute it happened, you got a minor tear of your ACL, MCL, Meniscus, or Pl Corner....go to your doctor, he'll send you to a specialist, you'll get a couple MRI's and an X-Ray....they'll find out the problem is. From they're they'll preform surgery or have you rest up and do some physical therapy...if there is anything wrong in the first place.

sit on a chair wiv the bottom of your foot on the floor and your knee bent to less than 90 degrees. then grab just below your knee with both hands with both thumbs pressing on the back of the leg. then press with your thumbs and push the bottom half of your leg away from you. If there is any movement (or more movement than in your good knee) of the shin bone away from the knee joint it indicates a rupture or tear of the ACL or PCL which means its pretty shitty.

Hope that helps

you will feel lke a small pinching feeling and fall. You will try to get up on that leg and it will just feel like there is no power in your muscles to hold you up. When you get to the bottom of the hill you will see that your tigh is loose from your lower leg at the knee. Then it is an ACL.

what up holson, send me more shots to look at for the film. i have a dvd ready for you, e-mail your address to admin@twoplank.com. if your knee hurts in the back center, behind the cap, and is unstable side to side, front to back, go get it looked at-best CT (Colorado EMT & Two Plank grand master) peace

If its partially torn it hurts like a bitch and there's minimal support, it'll feel like your knee wants to give away.

If it's fully torn, it doesn't hurt much at all but you can't fully bend your knee with pressure on it without it feeling wierd. When you step on a certain angle it'll completely give out on you too.

Well, this is how it is for me..I partially tore it and didn't know, then fully tore it and finally got an MRI to tell me so.

keep a good eye on it. sometimes it is nothing. back in the fall, i started getting wicked knee pain. My knee would ache, and pop, and it felt like it would snag a lot, and all that. It hurt to walk after a while, and sometimes it was hard to bend my knee, etc. etc.

I got an MRI and nothing was wrong, so I dont even know.

this is what I wrote in another thread on the same subject:

i had several physios and doctors tell me that MRI's are not the most reliable way to tell if there is ACL damage or not. if the ligament is fully torn through the middle, then yes it is obvious. but different types of tears don't show up. such as a complete tear that is sort of diagonal through the ligament. also, a more than 50% rupture is called a complete tear, even though part of the ligament is still intact. these tears are not always obvious on MRI's.

case in point... did something to my knee skiing. went to the hospital, did xrays, it was too swollen to really move but the doctors said nothing was wrong. a few days later i saw a physio, a sports doctor, and another physio. all called it a textbook acl tear. MRI showed the same, along with partial LCL, MCL, meniscus damage, and fractured femoral condoyle and tibial plateau. went to see a surgeon, who wanted a more current MRI. had a 2nd one done, no damage whatsoever. had a scope anyways to check things out, and complete rupture of ACL, partial LCL, partial MCL, meniscus. the rest had healed by now.

so yeah. sometimes it's hard to tell without actually getting a look inside the knee.

another thing, with swelling and pain: the pain varies greatly from person to person. the acl often comes with other knee injuries. for example, fracture of the tibial plateau and femoral condoyle. this causes pretty severe pain. also a ruptured MCL is common, and very painful. other times, for other people, the only sign is a 'pop' when the injury actually occurs. others dont' notice anything.

for swelling: the acl is inside the joint capsule in your knee. this is a bag of lubricating fluid that allows your knee to flex and extend normally and without pain. the acl can tear inside the capsule, while the capsule will remain intact. this type of injury has minimal swelling. other times, the capsule can tear and the fluid seeps into the rest of the knee and causes major swelling. this type of injury is often more painful also.

in conclusion, there is no way to tell for certain whether an acl is torn until a doctor physically sees it.

however, typical signs are:

-a twisting fall

-a pop sound/feeling inside the knee

-immediate extreme pain that subsides quickly

-a feeling of instability

-aching pain in the back of the knee, which feels like upper calf pain

-swelling

-and finally, an MRI/k-t test

mine didn't hurt...tore acl/mcl and it only hurt for like 3 days right after i did it...surgery on the 28th :(

Man, i should get an MRI. About 3 years ago I had a really bad injury on my knee in hockey. I got it checked out by doctors and stuff but they said it was ok. Now 3 years later, I'm thinking I should have done more. I am in physical therapy now so get it checked out asap. What happended to me was this...I was dangling around people until I came out of a big cloud of people and I faked one way leaving my knee out. Some kid left his hip out and cut across my knee. That hurt more than anything in my life. I just went down on the ice crying. I tried to get up and i just had no support. My knee felt like it was falling inward and was going to collapse. Now the doctor said that both my knees are messed anyways. The kneecap moves outward when I do anything and teh cartiledge is pretty much snadpaper cause I didnt fix it soon enough. So yeah, get it fixed soon, I regret that i didn't.

sounds exactly like my last season. get that shit checked. when i finally did i found out i fucked up alot of shit in my knee. go to the doctor

just reading about this gets me in pain! i hurt my knee in early january and i did hear and felt a pop.. i got it checked out and it seemed to be that i was ok. anyways the sports doctor really bent my knee in the ways your knee bends when you get your acl torn and i felt mild pain but only from all the twisting the doc was doin.

so now my knee cracks loudly everytime i bend it like whenever im streching and shit... does anyone has this? specially people that has torn their acl.. anyone?

i have the same thing! i need to get an MRI to see if anything is actually wrong. i guess im in the same boat as you. the doc said it was ok but im not sure. and my knees make horrible sounds when i bend them.

but considering both my knees hurt is it still somthing to worry aobut it, or is it just the pain that i have from skiing really hard in the last week non stop, but however when i do bend both knees when i havn't skied for a period of time they crack just like the person above me explained.

ud know if it was torn, and usually its not like it is close to being torn, if u tear it u will know it happened

a torn MCL can only be fixed by staying off it and lots of ice, its on the outside of your knee, itf the pain is in the front or on the inside get that shit checked, If you tore you ACL you would know.

but if it is just pain and should i get it checked, i'm planning on gettin it checked, but i can't figure out how it happenend or when, i justk now when i got back from whislter, my knees hurt when i put pressure on them and bend, they feel really weak like i can't do as mucfh wit hthem.

when you feel a slight clicking, like a catching inside of your knee.

that is a small piece of the tendon sticking up and getting caught in with the other inner workings of your knee.

so if your knee kinda pops or catches and then continues sliding, you may have a tear.

but the MD's of ns probably don't know as much as your doctor would

the best thing to do is if you even suspect a tear go get it checked out. for something like this, you gotta be on the safe side. sitting out 5 months sucks big big dick.

sometimes i hear a little crackling noise in my knees. it doesnt hurt though, just makes a little noise.

if you havent been active since the end of the season, you just stretched them out. the scary thing about off season is gaining weight and you rknees are preparded for it. drinking alcohol will also really hurt muscle mass, so drinking alot in the summer is bad.
