How do riders get paid for segments?

In larger production movies for companies like Poorboyz and TGR, do riders get paid directly at all (besides all costs for the trip taken care of) or is it all through the sponsors of the movie?

Do sponsors pay their riders per movie that they do or what? What about for smaller production companies?

Thanks.

^ shut up. I think they are paid by the film companies and some may even get royalties, though some of the money to pay them i would imagine comes through the sponsors

^ also sponsors pay for amount of time logo appears. ex: dollar amount per second. Similar to them getting photo incentive if the sponsoring companies logo/product is clear on a photo used for a mag.

Royalties! HAHAHA. the production companies see $5 at the MOST coming back to them from distributor sales, which accounts for most of the sales of a movie. Nobody pays "royalties" to riders, there isn't that kind of money.

Also, riders don't get paid for how much time their logo is seen on screen. In some instances there are contigency deals but otherwise a skier is paid by the company to ski, and the films sponsorship is unrelated to the money they recieve.

Usually just like pictures riders get a film incentive. That depends on their onw personal contracts. Some riders will get extra help from sponsors to shoot with a certain company. And sometimes film companies will pay an athlete to be in their movie. For example I know warren Miller pays per day to shoot with them. Some other companies will pay plane tickets our some expenses.

dont ever use the word "we" when talking about ski movie producers.

also, yes to the other moron in this thread, riders do get paid based on logo exposure. that is why they do their best to have names and logos in front of the camera, and many times it is based on a per second rate.

I own you

The riders get paid by thier sponsors. The movie companies don't pay the athletes to be in the movies. Warren Miller pays people that are not under contract, they pay $50.00 per day for food. I had a friend make around $50.00 per day from WM to make powder turns.

Sometimes the film company will help out with some travel cash for part of a trip, or they will talk to the sponsor to help out an athlete, especially if they are new to the scene. Thats only if you are worth it to the movie company to be shot in the first place. Or the movie company will get the athlete a sponsor that sponsors thier movie.

Basically an athlete should have a travel budget to go on trips, if they don't then they are paying out of thier own pockets. Thats the case most of the time.

For athletes to get royalties from a movie they need to have a contract with the movie company to get that. Some may get a royalty, but maybe just the rider owned and operated ones.

Sometimes a sponsor will sponsor a trip with thier athtletes and have a filmerr from a company come along. That is how it is done in Warren Miller most of time.

Companies that Sponsor a film are not paying by the minute. They are paying for exposure of thier products. If they pay a certain amount they get a logo on the box, and at the bigging of the movie and those chessey product shots you see in an athletes segment.

Sometimes athletes have a film incentive built into thier contracts where they get money for a segment that is so long, and then more money for a segment that is longer.

All in all it is up to the athlete or thier agent to geth them these types of deals.
