how do I throw a flatspin?

I throw flatspins by carving a bit off the lip of the jump and by hucking my arms like I'm doing a flip but an off axis one... I kno that prolly doesn't help.. you just need to really understand the rotation in your head.. watch movies...

there are a crapload of variations on it. In the pipe, off hips, and off jumps.

I was sessioning with Cusson this past year, and he does them more backflip style, whereas i do them more lincoln loop style.

I found that it is easiest off of a hip. if your good at backflips, then go off the hip and lean back, while looking over your shoulder as if your gonna spin. You want your feet to follow a 'flat' axis, which is the happy medium between the flip and the spin. On a hip, most flatspins look like a rodeo 450. You dont want to get totally inverted like a regular backflip, but also not totally upright like a spin.

Cusson throws a few in the Game that look really good.

For the lincoln loop style, i pop off and do a lincoln loop with 90 degrees of rotation that is spread throughout the flip. I will see if i can find a clip and upload it.

Hope this helps bro!

go to skiingmotion.com and it shows Cusson do a flat spin safety 5 and 7. it says to throw it like you checking some one in football. Ive been trying it with a luikang off diving boards in a pool and it doesnt seem that hard. so im gonna bring it the park and see if i can do it.

I carve off the jump and look over my shoulder, back down the transition.

That 'hockey check' idea doesnt work well. I understand what he means but it doesnt seem to work at all, it makes you do a forward flip instead of back and to the side.

Im pretty sure a flat spin is forward. Your not suppose to get inverted. It seems if you through it back and to the side you will go inverted. your head is suppose to be out front the whole time.

wait, someone needs to clarify, when JF does them his look rollerblade style, like an actual flat spin, but when i see tanner halls flat spin 360s his look like he does a flat backflip, like tanner leans back and JF dives out to get flat, does anybody know what i'm talking about?

of course on a flat three you cant go flat because it wont bring you back upright to land. so you have to flip more inverted on a flat 3. But i think jf's are a true flat spin the way he is all flat & parallel to the ground.

hmm...nm....that would be a flatspin with you're head behind not in front....would that just be corked?

if your head is back it would be a rodeo wouldnt it? i dont know it seams there is like 4 different tricks that look the same its all mest up. The only flat spin ive seen and looks right is Cusson and it looks the best.

All the tricks are so similar to throw. Just get out on the tramp, start hucking yourself until you find a spin/style that works (so that you can land solid), then take it to the park. Once you've got that down, start trying to vary the style, 'more inverted...more flat...more corked...lean back... drop sideways...go forwards...' etc. untill you can do them all, and then let other people worry about what there called.

Peace.
