How do I go about buying a camera for ski edits?

Title pretty much says it all. I want to buy a camera for edits but I've never purchased one before other than an old go pro. I don't wanna make the mistake of splashing out on some camera that doesn't really do the job right for skiing. Any tips for a newbie?

Honestly, if you're only going to take videos, go with a GoPro. DSLR's are the route for people that also want to be taking pictures along with videos. GoPro's are also shooting at a higher quality video and are a lot cheaper. I'm not sure about the compression but I don't think there is much.
