How do i convince my parents?

okay so my parents want me to get a mazda 3s 5 speed car. it's an 05 with 20,000 miles. and it is pretty sick and a nice car. but the thing is it is $15,000!!!

now for that money i could buy a sick 04-05 WRX, maybe a little cheaper even really. sure it might have 50,000 miles instead. and i realize insurance would be more and premium gas.

it's not like they are paying for the entire car. maybe half, maybe. and my mom keeps telling me mazda's are more reliable blah blah blah you're not getting a WRX. she bases this solely on the fact my fuck up cousin got a brand new 08 STi and has wrecked it so much and it's probably cost his dad $100,000+ with the price of the car, repairs, and misc. trouble he got in involving the car.

HOW THE FUCK DO I CONVINCE HER?!

I dont know what problem you have the the mazda man but they are sick especially if its a hatchback and the speed 3 has turbo in it as well while still getting pretty good gas mileage. only 20000 miles is sick too, the one im getting is newer but its got a few more miles on it

well i've been trying. i was like seeing as i am spending about 10k here, i think i should be able to decide the car i get. my mom is worried about safety, and i was like the furthest drive i'll take normally is to my mountain (about an hour) and an awd car is as safe as it gets. mainly they think i'm going to fucking haul ass at about 100 mph in the suby. which is understandable seeing as that's just how i am.

the mazda isn't a bad car by any means though, so if i don't get the WRX i'm not going to slit my wrists.

but i am just wondering here if anyone knows of anything really good i can say to change their opinions...

alright so i just decided i want to go with the mazda 3s...i know know i am a fucking retard. they said they'll help me pay a little more if i get it, i can't turn that down.

so here is my decision: wait until september when the 08's come out and get a sick mazda3s 5 spd. hatchback. 2.3 liter engine. all around bad ass. these will be about 17k then.

OR

i have a week, i can get an 05 mazda 3s 5 spd sedan. it is about 15k.

i'm thinking the wait will be well worth it?

wait until the 09's come out and get an 08, is what that should read.

yea do that and try and print out some facts on the internet and stuff. also try not to sound naggy

well only the mazdaspeed 3's have a turo, the rest are only 2.3 n/a's, fairly slow unless u get the turbo. but i know a guy who has an 08 and he avg's 33 mpg highway and city combined. and if yo get a mazdaspeed version, itll be a lot faster than a wrx, contrary to popular belief.

You just ended your own thread. If you arent mature enough to handle a fast car, do not get a fast car. its people with this mentality who kill innocent drivers.

you are probably under 20. you dont have much driving experience, DO NOT start with a fast car. an ad car is not as safe as it gets. a car that cannot go out in foul weather is as safe as it gets for you.

your parents are willing to help you on a car? great, but make a good choice. I am turning 24 next month and am thinking about buying a new wrx come fall. great cars, but why not get a 2.5rs or TS instead. do you NEED a wrx?

arnt the mazda 3's rear wheel drive?

do you drive in snow at all?

awd would be a huge thing id use to convince my parents (if they even had to pay a cent) because i drive on sketchy steep windy roads everyday in the winter.

yeah the speed 3 is sick and i think it looks strikingly similar to the new wrx and im pretty sure theyre about as fast as the normal wrx (not the sti)
i think the speed 3 is a good choice

i forgot that the speed 3 is front wheel drive
depending on where you live it doesnt matter, but i personally need all wheel so that would keep me away from the speed3

confusion here...i am not getting the mazdaspeed3, but the mazda 3s. s stands for sport! it is still the 2.3 L engine, but it isn't turbo and doesn't have 260 something HP haha. i tried to get them to get me the mazdaspeed3 and they wouldn't let me, so that's why i am looking at the 3s.

here is the deal Mazada is just ford in a japaneese cover. but dont beleive the hype its a ford. most suberus i know are the most reliable cars and run for hundreds of thousands of miles. i doknow much about the wrx upgrades so i cant speak for them but in general a suberu will out last a mzada every time, it will have a higher resale value and is just a better value in general

mazda is owned by ford, but that doesn't make them fords. at all. And I would think a car that's only 3 years old will be plenty reliable.

hahaha my mom printed this out. i go on my computer today and see the 2nd page of something from newschoolers.com didn't print out. so i go in and check, this thread lol. she didn't bring it up yet.

owned by ford and made by ford. think what you want but if you by mazda your getting a ford.

F fix

o or

r repair

d daily

actually ford only owns about 25% of mazda. and ford doesn't have any baring on mazda's designs and parts used. mazda's are pretty reliable cars actually. just as reliable as a WRX, if not more.

Mazda's financial turmoil and decline during the 1970s resulted in a new corporate investor by 1979, Ford Motor Company. Starting in 1979 with a 27-percent financial stake, Ford began a partnership with Mazda resulting in various joint projects. During the 1980s, Ford gained another 20 percent in financial stakes. These included large and small efforts in all areas of the automotive landscape. This was most notable in the realm of pickup trucks (like the Mazda B-Series, which spawned a Ford Courier variant in North America) and smaller cars. For instance, Mazda's Familia platform was used for Ford models like the Laser and Escort, while the Capella architecture found its way into Ford's Telstar sedan and Probe sports models. However in 2002 Ford gained an extra 5-percent financial stake. 52% total

and why you arguing this with me shawn it could be an angle to take to your parents as a con for mazda pro for suberu

just some more mazda ford items

(Ford uses Mazda's four-cylinder designs in large numbers, while Mazda has replaced its own V6 engine lines with designs from Ford) and have made several combined efforts in platform engineering. Their first major platform cooperation of this type began with the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute models, which were effectively a global design that has since been sold in many parts of the world. The most recent Ford Focus also shares a platform with both the Mazda Axela and the Volvo S40.

man you're trying to decide between a camaro and a challenger, i dont think you have any place in this conversation, and congratulation an your ability to use wikipedia

mazas are tough cars, and even if the 3's were fords, which theyre not ford builds great engines engines are tough as nails

man if youre a beginner driver dont buy something that youre not going to be able to afford. Front wheel drive is still excellent in the snow. Ive driven tonnes of fwd cars in the snow and never gotten stuck in hilly areas. Subarus are more expensive in repairs, gas and insurance. Youd look equally cool in a three if thats what youre going for and would probably be able to buy a new pair of sticks every year with the money you save.

the mazda 3 is softtt, I test drove one and it didn't have enough power. Maybe the newer ones will be better, wait until september. But if I was you, I'd get an 08 Accord with like 30,000 miles on it.

be like mom i have all this money i wanna move out she will be like ahh noo my baby and then you can be like well i might reconsider if i had a cara wanna split on it?

be happy your parents are helping you buy a car and dont act like a spoiled bitch?

Youre welcome~

Honestly if I was you, I'd go with the subaru. It only has 50000 miles and most of the subarus (if you take care of them) can go up to 250 000 km easily. Plus, the look of the car is sick, it has a good motor in it, it's AWD (best thing you can have for winter(really it's illmatic!)). Just tell your parents you won't go crazy with that car between your hands and that you'll be driving safely (which I hope you will ;) ! )

hey as long as its a 5spd car id be happy. the WRX is nice, but so is a mazda. also you'd probly take it up the butt with the premium gas. just go with the mazda and if you really dont like it, get a WRX in a few years.

true that. you can get some pretty good used trucks for less than 15k, but if you can't afford the gas then stick with your little car, no need to break the bank.

If shes into saving the earth, tell her that anyone who is Green drives a Subaru. At least they do here in Seattle.

I drive an '04 Mazda 3s sedan and while it's a fun car to drive around, it SUCKS in the winter. I bought a set of snow tires last year and it definitely helps but it's still not great. If it's still possible you should go for the WRX. The awd will make a big difference in the winter and plus it's just a bad ass car. I was thinking about getting a used '05 Sti from a guy I know but while I was trying to make up my mind he sold it...bastard lol. You can't really go wrong either way, but I think the WRX is a better overall choice.

Better Idea - your parents dont like the WRX because its a sport, faster looking car I assume.

So, find a car that can still shred, but wont look like such a speedster to your parents. (First thing that comes to mind is the audi A4 or S4)

And just wondering, how old are you?
