HOW DO I BURN A DVD

I just got a Laptop, and I am trying to burn all the DVD's I like out of my familys collection so I can take them to college with me. I have tried to burn Shawshank Redemtion and City of God so far and both say that they are copyright protected. I know it can be done though because my friend's copy of City of God is burned. Do I need a certain program or something to get around this. Right now I am trying to burn using sonic record now. Anyone know?

Get a program call DVD shrink with DVD decrypter thats what i use and if u want a super duper easy one to use get X Copy Xpress search for them on www.google.ca

i hope the burner is external cause its a lot easier to have a blank dvd in one drive and the dvd you are trying to copy in another. otherwise, you will have to create an image of the dvd, save it to your hd, then burn it to a blank dvd and that takes a long time.

 
im dowloading dvd shrink right now we'll see how it works out. thanks for all the help so far.

ahh, dvd shink was sort of confusing it wanted me to download nero to burn so im just downloading Copy Xpress.

^Yeah i got it figured out, use the Xpress thing, it is really easy and good. iv'e burned a few dvds so far they take liek 20 minutes a piece. thanks everybody for the help.
