How do foreigners think of America?

now thats just wrong. we have immigrants that bring food over and open restuarants. now corporate america definately americanizes everything, but that's a whole different story.

america is just like any other country. we think of ourselves as the best and think other countries are odd.

in america we do that shit with states.

i think colorado is the best place to live period.

people from california are fucking organic whack jobs or excessively stoned.

i can't stand people from texas, they're ignorant as fuck. some white people from florida called me a yankee so i don't like dumb bitches from florida.

people from boston are fucking assholes.

people from the midwest are usually really cool.

black people in the south are racist as fuck. white people in the south are racist as fuck.

i can't stand the mexicans/blacks that are bringing crime to colorado with gangs from california. motherfuckers

i guess what i'm saying is everyone hates other people that aren't like them. whether they're in the same country or not.

my dislikes of people from europe that visted my hotel:

don't tip and are needy, which is annoying

have terrible teeth and smell like shit (obvious)

say weird words that make no fucking sense. you can't say a funny noise and expect me to understand that you're speaking to me.

enjoy cigarettes way too much (and we're the stupid ones)

lack a good sense of humor. i have no idea what is funny to europeans...but nothing ever sounds like a punchline.

wear speedos as often as possible

think they're the most intelligent people in the world

are full of themselves

have terrible music, except bands from the classic rock era.

find boring things to be fun.

are obessed with soccer

hate football w/ a passion (like i care that you don't like the home team of my state.)

don't understand that we have their sports plus others from around the world.

From my experience in traveling, people are generally pretty nice to an American visitor. They seem fine with the people, they just hate the administration. Though or course there will always be the ignorant trash that stereotypes everyone.

yeah you are right, but what i was really saying is at least make an effort to speak some of their language, to shouw that you are trying to embrace their country. and europeans don't tip because they aren't accustomed to it. It's just something they don't do at home so I guess they didn't realize that we did it here or something.

my highly generalized comment...

a trigger happy country with leaders who have pretty much only introspective sight.

i used to live in switzerland, and most of the people i know there think america is a ridiculous place with a lot of problems..

but they REALLY appreciate the movies and music and general pop culture that eminates from us.

Europe thinks we're idiots, and rightfully so. I'd say about 75% of Americans are complete morons. Half of all employees at companies literally don't do anything. Educational systems are sub-par, knowledge of America in schools is terrible, knowledge of anything outside America is non-existant. I used to be able to chill in morocco or tunisia or cairo, now I wouldn't dream of going there.

I'm ashamed (not scared) to be American in Europe and when I travel I usually pose as a Canadian (seriously the friendliest most neutral country on earth), or a frenchman. Heureusement Je parle un peu de Francais.

But Europeans are too quick to point out our decline. Sure we've been in a bad way lately, but its no reason to vehemently hate us. I understand the occasional making fun, but seriously every time I mention I'm an American in a bar the climate goes from cordial to people sneering and saying 'I hate your president'. I mean, congratulations, who cares? It's nothing new, what's going on. We've been waging shadow wars on tiny countries for economic reasons for decades, so if you just started hating us because of Iraq, you're just as ignorant as the Americans who think it's about freedom or democracy.

Well, then why is the world still clamoring to study at U.S. universities? The country must be doing plenty of stuff right. The high school education sucks, though.

75 % of the population of any country are morons, besides.

And yes, you can still chill out in Cairo, I just had a very nice long weekend there not too long ago.

Theyre coming to US Universities for a piece of paper. I have a masters in biochemistry from the university of ljubljana, slovenia and it was ten times the education I got from my undergrad at NYU. However, nobody knows what ljubljana is unless you're staying in slovenia, so you still need the US degree.

In my experience, most of the world has great disdain for America. Americans are viewed as an ignorant, warmongering people who produce vacuous, inflated culture. In reading through this thread, you can see why too. There are several Americans claiming they have the best food in the world, produce the only worthwhile pieces of media in the world, anyone who speaks another language does not matter and certain foreigners are "Mini-Hitlers." This is why the world hates you.

A lot of American culture is viewed as trite garbage. That being said, America has produced some great music and cinema. As the creators of jazz, rock & roll and rap music, that's fantastic. America does produce a lot of garbage music and movies but they also produce fantastic pieces as well. But so does the rest of the world.

American food is viewed as garbage. You can claim to have the best food because you have diverse options but essentially every nation on earth has food from everywhere else. You have essentially the same options in Bangkok, London, Tokyo, or Toronto as you do in NYC albeit slightly tailored for the area's tastes. American BBQ is fantastic though!

As for the obesity thing:

#1 United States: 30.6%

#2 Mexico: 24.2%

#3 United Kingdom: 23%

#4 Slovakia: 22.4%

#5 Greece: 21.9%

#6 Australia: 21.7%

#7 New Zealand: 20.9%

#8 Hungary: 18.8%

#9 Luxembourg: 18.4%

#10 Czech Republic: 14.8%

#11 Canada: 14.3%

#12 Spain: 13.1%

#13 Ireland: 13%

#14 Germany: 12.9%

#15 Finland: 12.8%

Last year, The U.K. was the second fattest in the world but it appears those Mexicans are packing on the pounds.

Only 3% of Japan is Obese!

What I hate about america is rednecks, but there are somes in Canada too(alberta).

Kill all republicans and the world will be somewhat peaceful again. They care more about their money and "friends" than the USA. Its time for another revolution America, and after its done get ride of your guns.

No, that's just OBESE. There are many, many more who are considered overweight. I am trying to calculate a statistical extrapolation to find out how many would be considered overweight, but its tough because I don't think weight is distributed in a perfect bell-curve.

Nevermind,

According nationmaster studies

64%!! of the United States is overweight.

i lived in Zuerich.. well outside of zuerich.. and everyone i knew there didn't really like america that much as far as politics, policy, war, etc go.. but they love hollywood.. when i told them i was from California they loved it.

Look at it this way. When the average American goes to visit Europe, they want to see places like London, Paris, and Rome. When the average European comes here, they want to see New York, LA, and Las Vegas. No wonder everybody has such skewed views of each other. Using those places as a measuring stick for an entire population seems silly in retrospect.

Is that true? Do you Euros come here to see NY and LA? I never really thought of European tourists here. I guess I figured they didn't come here much. Maybe the do now cause of the weak dollar. The only ones I have encountered have been skiing or in places like Moab. Course those are the places I go so thats why I've encountered them there. So I dunno.

Can we just agree and say fuck Japan and all their tourists? Considering tourists, I'd say they are the absolute worst.

I'd have to disagree, not that it has anything to do with the actual point you are making, but a lot of Europeans come over here [Canada] purely to get away from cities.

You know when a toddler, say, gets into the makeup cabinet and makes a horrible mess, but its pretty cute and pretty funny? However, if said toddler repeats it again and again after being told not to, it loses its humour and gets rather annoying or more?

Well that is kind of like an American (generalizations exist for a reason.) Its only funny and "cute" so many times when you hear some of the utter stupidity that has the ability to come from some of these people's mouths before you just have to shake your head.

"The Netherlands huh? Over in Eastern Europe." " No, close to Great Britian actually" "Ohhh, so in the North"...

Given the fact that as a nation you basically have better access to information than anyone else, the only excuse could be that "that stuff isn't important and that you don't need to know it." Thus, leading to the second thing:

Quit imposing your thoughts and ways on other people. Lots of good things come out of America, but a) Lots of good things come out of other places and b) Not everybody regards what you regard as being good in the same way.

And for heavens sake, don't order P&J Sandwiches and Fries at a restaurant in Hong Kong.

That being said all countries do some of the above, you just do it way more. At the Torino Olympics we were in a bar and there were some Canadians there as well. There was currently a hockey game being played at the stadium, but on the TVs in the bar, soccer was televised instead. The Canadians started booing and giving their own commentary, which they thought was hilarious, on the soccer game. Italians were not impressed. I was honestly ashamed to be a Canadian that night.

actually, football is pretty much the 2nd pussiest sport ever, behind golf. if you guys are so fucking tough why do you wear so many pads? I played a soccer game today 80 minutes straight and got wrecked by a kid who was like 6'5'' at least 7 times. shut the fuck up and learn to not be a fucking pansy football player

actually Japan's economy is in the shithole. They are just starting to recover. Did you know Japan had up to 600 ski resorts in their prime. Thats second only to europe yo.

Honestly i thought canada was going to be alot higher on the fat list then i thought.

by wrecked do you mean slide tackeled and by slide tackeled you mean tripped.

here are the 15 most dangerous sports in america. it shows how many people were sent to the emergency room in 2005 from each sport. notice there are almost 2.5 times more injuries in football than soccer.

Basketball: 512,213

Bicycling: 485,669

Football: 418,260

Soccer: 174,686

Baseball: 155,898

Skateboards: 112,544

Trampolines: 108,029

Softball: 106,884

Swimming/Diving: 82,354

Horseback riding: 73,576

Weightlifting: 65,716

Volleyball: 52,091

Golf: 47,360

Roller skating: 35,003

Wrestling: 33,734

i do think alot of americans are ignorant. i said alot, not all. alot of them do drive big SUV's for no reason, they arent all fat, but ALOT again... are fat, much more then many other countries, Canada is slowly creeping up with this... But actually, when i go to seattle or something, not far, from where i live up in canada, the average american seems very friendly, and welcomes us well. Shop owners, and people working in there will help you out and talk to you a bunch. America is stereo typed alot just like all other countries, it just gets talked about more, because of some crazy ass presidents, haha. (sorta hippocritical i know)...

no by wrecked i mean the kid is dribbling the ball, i kick it out from under his feet to someone on my team, and the kid plows through me and i get hit and fly backwards and hit the ground.

they should do that in percentages to the amount of people in that sport at any given time, because there are a lot more people who play basketball than say hockey, yet there were less hockey injuries because less people play hockey, and hockey is much more physical than basketball, your list is scewed, however i do believe football is a hel of a lot more badass than soccer, soccer players take dives all the time, it's pretty pussy

Japan has the second (although china encroaches on that) largest and most powerful economy on earth. They are experiencing a labor shortage and the aging of their baby boomer generation. Sound familiar?

Also, having skiied in japans 'resorts' I will tell you there are still hundreds, because their definition of a resort used to be anything with a rope-lift. Nowadays a resort there is a resort as we know it, so yeah numbers may seem lower.

Japan is like us, only without a flood of mexicans to do all the shit jobs for $3 an hour. So yeah theyre gonna be hurtin for a bit. I'd still rather live there than in Amerika.

Yeah well, as said before... that list is cannot say anything except which sports are more popular than others. Percent of people playing would be the right way to do it, but since that's impossible to do... fuck you and just let people play what they want to play.

Yes, they instead rely on Nigerians and Brazilians to work their factories.

Japan's economy is fine. It was screwed up by the Asian currency crisis outfall but it is fine. They have a low rate of unemployment and the second largest economy in the world. They are not as well off on GDP on a PPP basis as USA, Canada or some of the Scandinavian countries but they are still some of the most affluent people in the world. They don't have the huge wealth disparity problem that is present in USA.

every country has its negative stereotypes I dont honestly any level headed person from "x" country could actually believe all americans are obese idiots, though there always has to be some truth to form a stereotype.
