How different are rails from boxes?

I finally got my box slide down on a flat box, and was wondering how much different it is from rails. Is it harder it balance or something? Or is there not much difference?

there is absolutely no difference. just get someone to Guinea pig it for you to check if the rail is sticky or slick

not that much more hard, but I have been having trouble sliding anything, I lean back for the life of me.

Well my local hill doesnt really have any flat rails, only kinked, so Im slightly intimidated by trying to slide them.

go up at a huge angle and just barely get onto the rail. after that progressively come at the rail more straight on. eventually wou will slide the whole thing.

that's how i overcame my fears of kink rails

It's because rails aren't as slippery, and the metal allows you to he an edge grip unlike a [fat] plastic box

I'm pretty new to skiing and I've got 90's on and off boxes pretty good, but I'm just wicked sketched out on rails. It doesn't help my brother is a boarder and I've taught myself to ski so when were out riding I don't have anyone to ask for tips.

So with rails do you just hit them the same as boxes?

not if they are square, round coping is a MUST

also, really wide boxes that are super slick are fucking stupid

this is right, but rails are scarier than when you're starting out. In the end you'll feel way more in control on them though. technique is basically the same.

For your first one choose one that's not too high, just in case you split it. You don't wanna end up like this guy on your first try (it will happen eventually though sorry)

They're better. But really, besides spinning onto them, I'd say everything else you do on/off of them is easier.

in my opinion rails are not any harder especially if you consider that your momentum wants to stay in the direction its already going (forward) so balancing is really not difficult at all if you go into a rail with enough speed.

There's a wide box at smuggs that's super slippery and the coping is slightly lower than the plastic. I feel like I'm going to eat so much shit every time I hit it.

starting out, if the rail is round, it may be harder to balance on. if its flat, then it'll just be locking on that's tough.
