How did all of u get into freeskiing? Just wondering..im assuming most of you skied or had skied before, but what got u into newschool?when was that 'moment' ?

i started buying powder magazines in 2000. then i saw global storming at sugarbush in the lodge, so i went out and bought that and further. i guess thats where it started , so i signed up for sms camp, but i didnt start learning threes until then.

i started skiing when i was in fourth grade, and me and all my friends would hit(this was before parks) like every natural kicker we could find, like little bumps and the collection of snow at the bottom of lift towers. we'd do like daffys and back scratchers and goofy shit like that, so i've always liked getting air, it was just the past couple seasons that i actually found iut there was a 'newschooling scene'.

i started riding an staying wit alot of newschool skiers on the weekends... they would make me watch a shitload of movies and be like, 'look, u r gonna do this an u be one of the only girls here who can rip.'

 
i started skiing 2 years ago and progressed vary quickly. once the year was almost over i wanted to snowboard because i wanted to hit jumps and shit (cuz i was unaware of newschool). then one day i saw some skiers hucking themselfs and decided to find out more about it.. so i did and here i am

i was doing mutes/spins before i saw the mute 3 in the olympics. i guess i started racing tho and then moved to jumping.

i've always skied since i was little, but ever since i got into moguls, i met some skiiers that were always in the 'snowboard park', and thats when it started

 
yeah, where i ski all you do is jump, cuz you dont have room or real hills for 'carving runs' so eveyrone builds lil jumps. it was just the next step to do after i couuld turn. i started sking at like 6..so maybe at 7 or 8 i was jumping and skiing backwards like mad ...soo much backwards on not twins

i used to race for like 6 years, then i quit cause i didn't like it anymore. then i just freeskiied for a year, then just last season i got into newschool.

I saw skiers and snowboarders going down big mountains on TV and it looked like fun. I was more into snowboarding, but planned on trying skiing as well. I originally didn't plan on doing anything as crazy as the people I saw on TV, but now I'm not sure how far I will go.

In the 00-01 season I got a chance to go skiing and took it. I had a lot of fun and I forgot about trying snowboarding so I bought skis. I decided to buy my first ski film that summer (Ski Movie) and after seeing that I became an addict.

 
i've been skiing since i was 4. two years ago i started to rollerblade and a guy i knew was doing tricks on skiboards. the next year my friends and i started to skiboard to. i started to work at a ski place and needed new skis b/c mine were garbage. i bought twintips after last season b/c i figured 'what the hell' all my friends bought twintips before me and stopped skiboarding. after using my twintips i just bailed on skiboarding because skis felt so much better. i made the transition for skiboarder to skier and i'm better for it.

I started hitting kickers about 4 years ago and kept killing my race skis so I was told to stay outta the park with 'em and at the time Twins werent a big thing so I stayed away not wanting to kill my racers again...

It was a combination of '98 Olympics and ski magaizines.... BUt seriously riding park for the past season and a half.. Started Feb '01... the only people I could really keep up with were snowboarders so they got me riding park with them and thats my story!!

My friend asked me if i wanted to lay out or go water skiing, and thats when i realized that i dint want to answer this question and or any other aquatic sports question and i didn't want to see any of these people again. Next thing I new I went nuts.

 
I've always looked for jumps on or off my skis. but I actually got into 'newschool' after reading freeze. thats what came to mind. wait!! it was when I demoed 1080's the first year they came out. loved those skis, but am still skiing on skis that arn't twins. if only I wasn't going to school and could arroed new skis. maybe this season.

i've always skied. every since i was like 5. only a few times a year, but hey it was still skiing. then i got my first season pass once i turned 16 and really got into skiing. then last year i subscribed to powder and saw some of the crazy stuff in there. then my friend started talking to me about ns.com and we got into 'newschool' this year. now i have twin tips and will never go back. and to think i once thought about snowboarding because all of my freinds were doing it. but i resisted. FIGHT THE POWER

me and my friends always went over small jumps at the bottom of lift towers and stuff, and we would do spread eagles and stuff, then i went to a hill with a good park and we would do the spreads and daffys over the tables in there, then we started to get more air and do grabs and 180s and stuff....then i found newschoolers while searching for a website were i could learn tricks and i learned all about the 'scene' and stuff

I've always skiied, and then saw a halfpipe awhile ago and was what like what the hell if a snowboarder can do it, and of course I always got yelled at. But then I was getting bigger then snowboarders so the good ones usually were stoked and then I saw sick sense and it pretty much changed me

when i bought 13 i was like wow, then my race skis got stolen and i got 1080's on insurance, it was awesome, and we had been learning helis and big cross overs so i guess it just lead from there

I was in grade1 and i went skiing and I hated it and made a vow to never go again, and then a few years later we went to a mountain for spring break and I went skiing but i was a hockey player and when i turned I always tried to do crossovers on my turns and fell down a lot, but still had fun, then I went snowboarding for a day and fell a lot and had fun. then a few years later our hockey team went sking and they were doing jumps so i did it and it was fun so i quit hockey and went skiing

i started skiing in 91, and i rollerbladed the whole time, so skiing for me has always been what you mothas call 'newschool'. i never saw it anyother way.

i used to ditch my poles to do 'japan' grabs, but we called them 'stale' grabs. along with mutes and parralells. we did saftey and lui kang in the begining too.

in 96 i ran into some other kids from a niehboring resort who called themselves the 'cascade posse'. these kids also rolled and did grabs on skis.

soon we began skiing and later renamed the group as the 'midwest allstars' because we began to branch out to all midwest resorts.

our crew was into grabbing and all that shit since the begining, we began to get silly about the same time as the 'new canadian air force' but without the press and connections.

this crew included, Myself(dirty), Ryan Schmies(creator of the public enemy graphic), Alex Applegate, Nate Hammersley, Eric Kohl, Andy Harris, Paul Slavik, and a a bunch of others.

this crew is undoubtedly some of the original inovators in skiing... whether you chose to agree or not, just as jp or other ncaf members what they think. these kids in the crew have tought tricks to some of the biggest names in the sport.

alex applegate is the first kid to really begin to through dspin and cork 7s.

just pick up a copy of an old cascade posse video(yellow school bus, the revolution will not be televised) and see the kids in action way back when, also check out Freedom Productions, 'Declaration' and 'Homegrown' to see the madness unleashed by this crew.

i started skiing when i was 2 and hit all kinds of gay little jumps on the side of runs and they wernt fun, then this year i bought twinnies and learned 180's then everything else just happened...360's 5 attempes and other shit like that

 
i started skiboarding cuz i saw j-mo do tha 3 mute at the olypics, but i never really did anything or was really into it. so then i started skiing and i was just like wow! this is really fun. now im so in love with skiing i really dont think about much else. now if been skiing for 2 years as much as i can, trying to make up for my childhood that was void of skiing.

Started skiing 8 years ago. I was always getting air. It kept the tiny hill fun. I could do some wikid backscratchers and everything. Then my friends turned over into snowboarders and I was the only skier left. they got into doing grabs and stuff, so I naturally started trying stuff like they were. I truly started newschool 2 seasons ago.

i've skiied ever since i was in 4th grade..i'm a freshman now and think newschool is the coolest thing i've ever seen in my whole life...so i'm gonna go crazy this coming season and try to go freestyle...so any tips would be great!

i started skiing at 6 or 7 and then went into racing. around that time, the 'snowboard revolution' was gettin pretty big with plaid jackets and massive jeans so around 1995 i jumped on the bandwagon with my kemper rampage 130. after about 7 years of racing i said fuck this and concentrated on snowboarding while occaisionally straping on the skis. around this time, a skiboarder by the name of dave pauls was frequently getting his lift pass taken away for going inverted. i figured this was 'cool' and started skiboarding and snowboarding. that was up to 2000 when i began working as a ski instructor at tali and they forced me onto skis and i figured what the hell, might as well stick with it. good thing i has derek cameron (shane_mcwannabe) around to ski with. now here i am, teaching park lessons at tali!

One word, BASEBALL. Tim SVHucker, got to know him through the whole, yay I'm an Oakland A's fan. At first he was just an obsessed with skiing guy to me, but then he started pressuring me to buy Freeze and watch this and that. I was kinda whatever, skiing was only an annual trip to utah with the family, until he sat me down and made me watch countless of ski movies. I was hooked, it also helped that every skiing guy i've seen is good looking.
