my dad told some customer at his work that i was into skiing so the guy was like you should tell him to look into newschoolers my son has one and likes it
eddie chode and i were hiking back in 06, and he asked me why i didnt post in the creek cult alot. and i was confused, so he explained the whole world of ns to me and i signed up that night
I skied since i was very small but i was playing ice hockey at a pretty high competetive level until i got jewed over and i decided to quit. then i started freeskiiing and i guess i found ns by accident?
I searched ski forums one day and I found epicski. I joined months later and posted a bit, but its mostly full of old racers sooo meh. through that I found TGR and eventually, through tgr, I found NS! I post on NS the most, TGR occasionally and epicski rarely.
i was riding one day and this guy and his friend who are always riding at my mountain come up to me...so the first dude asks me if i want to ski for their shop. which was totally sick cause i was like 13 and was the sickest thing that had happened to me. then after that the other guy asked me if i had NS, and i was like, no. then hes like, NS is my life!!!! so i checked it out. now its my life too.
I think i sent berman from level 1 an email around a year and a half ago asking what a song in lss or shanghai 6 was and he said check out newschoolers.com. it took me a while to actually make an account though i kinda just browsed the site as a guest for a while.
I had pretty much the same expirience as the guy who started this thread, I was lookin at random ski pictures on google and one brought me here an i was like, "sick..." Then I got an account and here i am
I was on another ski forum and they were talking about how much NS sucked because of all of the hate. ObviouslyI just had to check it out and the rest is history *tears*
back in early 08' for some reason i always kind of knew the name "newschoolers" had to do with free-skiing because whenever i went on youtube or searched for some desktop backgrounds it had always popped up. i sort of really started to go on NS when i found tom wallisch's super unknown on youtube. i actually discovered quite a few skiers without NS. When the 08'09 season has started i pretty much went on to look at the news articles, never really had time for the forums. But then i got bored.
I too learned about NS wayyy back. I used to spend hours browsing the internet looking for ski sites. I spent a lot of time on the freeze forum, freeride zone, the video trick tips page (don't remember what it was called), another one that I think Jeff Thomas had and a bunch of other random ones
I lurked on ns for what seemed like a long time before I signed up (member number 351 so I couldn't have lurked for that long). That was back in about 2000 I guess.
One of the guys that I coach kept telling me how awesome it was. I finally checked it out and have been hooked ever since. Not only the best forum, but best site I have found. Too great for description. Thanks Jack. Cause of you, I can't walk by my computer without checking out what's going on.
Back in grade 11 (I think) I was doing one of those reports or presentations on something you like so when I was looking for "newschool" skiing and it's history I stumbled upon NS. It's been almost 8 years and I haven't looked back once.
helll yeah! i used to go to freezes forums as well! i cant remember what year i joined but im stoked to be in the 500's somewhere i think for member numbers. i was such a tweaker on this site back in teh day hey...totallyl not anymore, right? right?!
is there any chance taht the guys in charge of the shirts could make a vintage run of the ns.com skier homie? i nevr bought any of those hoodies/shirts/hats etc and would be all about one now!
i think O.D.S.P. told me about it one day in the school library after we got bored playing this game about cutting ice to make vikings fall into their boat.
im a snowboarder, but i got obsessed with ski culture pretty quick after finding this site.
saw two guys on it in class during high school, checked it, lurked for a few years, made an account, lurked more, began posting. what a magical journey its been.
i watched videos of skiers alot, wallisch superunknown being one of the first and my favorite at the time. i was looking at the comments on it and people were asking if eachother if they are on newschoolers and i remembered when i was looking for some skigear i kept seeing newschoolers, so i was like wow all the skiers are talking about this so i gotta check it out. i went on and creeped forever, but eventually i realized i could join (i wasnt really familiar with forums) and i did and ive been addicted since
Found NS back in late 1999-2000 through the K2 Ski Chatter and the Freeze forums. People were spamming those old school forums with posts like "Go to newschoolers.com its better than this crappy place"...I was skeptical and didn't even bother registering a username for months, I just browsed the sick pictures and videos...hell I didn't even know that NS had forums when I first got here. It was wild when I figured out about the forums. I ended up meeting some really cool NS people that I am still good friends with today. Its crazy to think about how the site has evolved since the beginning.
