How did you find NS?

Personally, I kinda stumbled upon it while searching for skiing wallpapers on google images about a year ago, and just kinda took the images and left. Then I kept on coming across it while suring ski stuff online, and I lurked the forums for about a month before I joined. Before NS, I was a full on gaper haha. NS has taught me everything about skiing that I know now, and probably more. Thanks NS!

So, how did you come across newschoolers.com and when did you join?

I've always loved skiing and I used to play paintball a lot and was sponsored so I was on pbr and pbn. So I liked the idea of a forum so I searched for a ski forum (back when I wasn't on twintips) and it was called epicski.com, then I wanted twintips and they directed me here. Been happy ever since (Septeber 11th 2006)

Way back in the 03-04 season i first started coming on here, watching videos, looking at pictures, etc. Around February 04 i discovered the forums and everything else is history.

people talking about it at tgr or something.

first backcountry world, then I think epic, but wasnt on there long until I read about tgr, and then found this
I check tgr and here the most

a friend told me. before that i'd cruised around the epicski fourms a little and happened to be buying skis at the time...how i ended up with my public enemies...haha.

does any1 remember ns's main competitor like 5 or 6 years ago was , i forget there name but i was on there for awhile but then i was informed by sum1 who was from ns bashing the hell out that site one day so i switched to ns and here i am

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ooooo i rember it was SKI COLONIES but it was even sumthin befor they changed their name madd karma if sum1 can tell me

before i discovered NS i was always on freeskiing.com which was the old ski colonies. kids talked up NS on freeskiing.com so i joined.

I was on line skis website and i was watching a video of there Skiers Union and there like "Its like a mini NewSchoolers" I was like whats that?????? So i googled it

my buddy "james." told me about it in 2006 i think it was, i created an account, but never really went on until about a year later.

I was walking by my friends computer and I saw him checking out some skiing site. I looked at the address bar and thought it said "newshookers" so i was a little confused, but he cleared it up and ive been a fan ever since

google search skiing stuff like pics TJ schiller and kept coming across it. I remembered it back in like March and read the news everyday, finally joined in June. I was a part of biglines before that though.

i had heard about it from friends, and i wanted to play this ski game i heard of called jibberish i think it was during one of my classes at school, and i keep haveing to go to ns, click on media, and games, and then i jsut decided to try out the rest of the site

Got an account from a friend, so about 5 years ago 2003 i was 9 or 10 when i made it (skihood), then forgot about it made this one and well only had this one 8 monthes now

well, i was skiing down the mountain one day, and i saw some guy drinking a red bull, i slowly skied up to him, and i asked wat is that thing? is it beer? he gave me a sip. it was delicious. i introduced my self to him, and he did the same. his name was tanner hall. well, i asked if i could ski with him, he said, o yeah, sure, no problem. then when we get to the bottom of the mountain, and get onto the chairlift, i ask him how he found out about newschool skiing. he replied, www.newschoolers.com, i said wat? theres a site with lots of skiers on it? just like me??? He said go check er out, peace bro, bless up.

I thought to myself, wow, he was really neat. i really want to learn the tricks he was doing on those fancy twin tip skis. ive always been interested in getting some, maybe now the time is right?

So after a day of trying to accomplish the same tricks he was on skis, i asked my daddy for a ride down to the local ski shop, sportcheck. while i was there, the employee was very helpful, i asked him every question i could think of, and he answered very nicely and in a calm matter, but he kept on referring to 4BI9. once again, like i did with tanner hall, i asked him, wats your name. he replied very caringly, tom wallisch. i wondered, why everytime he took a step, he tried to "walk away with steeze". he told me there was a website for people like me, for people that had no idea about twintips. about the newest styles, the newest products and such. once again, i asked what this site was called, he too replied www.newschoolers.com, i asked him if he could write it on a piece of paper for me with his name on it.

i ended up selling that piece of paper on ebay for $638.51. apparantly, this guy was really "steezy".

I now had to find out about this so-called "steeze".

On my way home, after skiing, after stopping at the local ski shop, i noticed on the side of the road, a skier, with no poles and really fat skis. so i shouted at my dad, "stop the car!", well, it was actually a truck, but thats a whole other story. anyways, as i was saying, this skier, was jumping off a cliff, forward, and landing backwards, like half of a 360. it was amazing. i sat in the truck in awe.

I got out of the truck, and went up to him, and admired his skills. i also asked him what his name was. he replied, im eric pollard, i love painting. I was so amazed by his skiing skills i didnt even notice that he was painting at the top of the cliff, and at the bottom. I asked "where can i find out how to do such great moves like that sir?" and again, like tanner hall, like tom wallisch, he said www.newschoolers,com,

Right after that, i jumped into the truck, and told my father to "floor it", because if these cool cats were using this website, i could too, and become just like them.

After ariving at home just a few minutes later, i immediatley ran to the door, kicked it wide open. my mom said "Oh hi son, how nice to see you!", i replied very quickly and angrily, "not now mom!" I ran up the stairs, each step seeming like it was taking forever, time slowed down, i rushed into the computer room, logged on, opened up the internet. and typed in this website that apparantly was more wise than george bush.

I waited, and waited. and when it finally loaded, it was like the gates of heaven were just opened up. I was not alone. there were other people that obsess about skiing, just like me, with up-to-date freeskiing news, free videos, pictures, and a forum that was neverending.

and here i am today, spending all my time and money into this site. i love it. i dont know what i would do without it. i would not be able to survive.

Sparknotes: I just stumpled upon it on google while searching for ski sites

Well, back in 2000 everyone in skiing pretty much used one forum. It was the forum found at Freeze Magazine's website. One day, a young man by the name of Matt Harvey posted a thread about a website he started. This website was known as Newschoolers.com. He informed us that there would be areas to post photos, forums, etc. It was a cool little site. This is back when light blue became the NS color, and a skier outline was the logo:
main_lskier.jpg

So, I started using NS. I was one of the first members...then, like the 14 year old I was, I thought it would be funny to clog the forums with nothing. I would make thread's entitled "a", the contents of said thread would be random letters. I would hit refresh as I posted it to make 100's and 100's of threads with the same name (do not try this at home, or at school for that matter). Matt Harvey got angry and banned me for life. Needless to say, I apologized to Matt Harvey, we became good friends. We even exchanged some old t-shirts and hoodies amongst each other. Since I had been banned, I lost my member number, although my new one is still much older than almost anyone else that currently uses the site.

Years later Freeze Magazine was purchased by Transworld. A few years later, this publication's presses were shut down by said corporation and the doors were shut. With the demise of the magazine, the freeze forum fell as well...I continued to be a member..sometimes contributing, other times not..but always staying loyal to this site. Newschoolers.com is the past, present, and future of freestyle skiing.

I had just met a friend at my hill and he was like "do you have an NS?" wtf is an ns? Well he said make one and add me so i immediately quit runescape and joined ns. woohoo

I was in Niseko, Japan in January 2006 plundering pow when I was browsing a Aussie run snowboard shop I came across an issue of K2 Skeeze, where there was an article by cko and it mentioned newschoolers.com

as I was curious i checked it out, and loved it. before this I was very much a gaper only into casual racing and pow. through NS i have pretty much learned everything about freeskiing (even though I have known about it since 2001-thanks to Powderhound mag) and now love the movies by Level 1 etc.. (rather than Warren Miller stuff, my only exposure to ski movies in the past), mags like Freeskier and SBC Skiing, and many other companies helping the progression and culture of freeskiing.

i was searching for help with some of my product on goggle and it came up with ns, i had a look round and decided it looked like fun so i joined up and rolled with it.

i learned about it at ski camp! haha. who does that? but its ture!

i was about to switch over to snowboarding when i saw some kids at the mountain on different skis in the park doing tricks and was like i want to do that...not snowboarding! so i went to the local shop and found out they were called twin tips. i saved up money and when the ski show came to boston i was on a mission....that was the last year line had a tent at the ski show. someone directed me to the line tent, the guy there sold me on a pair of 1260's! once winter came i took a privet park lesson, which was harder then i thought to get b/c there was only one person on the mountain who could teach it! (we are now friends) it was fun but i wanted to learn more and couldn't afford to take any more lessons, so i searched the internet and came across a vhs vid called Twin Tip Tricks and Tips by Mike Douglas and PBP. so i got it. and i watched every second of it over and over again, but the part that got me was at the end tey suggest going to ski camp to learn from professionals, like the people in the movie like sarah burke, dave c, tanner hall, and others. they suggested sms...so i looked them up only that was the first year they were called momentum...so i had to go...convinced my parents to pay for it and i would pay for the plane ticket. so i get to vancouver meeting other skiers and this kid is like hey are you on newschoolers? so he showed me what it was and the day i got home from camp i signed up and never looked back!

I kept seeing ads for it in Freeskier, so i went to the website, and there was a really cool picture on the front page, so I kept going back to it and realized that they changed the picture, so there must be something going on inside, so i signed up for it and lurked for like a year.

i learned about it was freeze magazine and i was a member of freeskiing.com too but i always knew newschoolers was better

i still have one of the original hoodies with that logo hanging in my closet!

i learned about ns through the freeze forums way back in 1999 or 2000

I still have that hoodie too, I still wear it on occasion, but I more so keep it as a memento.

I also found the site thru the Freeze Forums back in '99 or 2000.

Yeah dude, I just gave my original hoodie to my brother, because it is too small on me now days. I just remembered the other forum. If you werent on freezeonline back then, you used the poorboyz productions forum.

Someone named Doug Bishop phoned me one day saying something along the lines of needing an insanely cool snowboarder to roam the forum. He said it creates diversity among the community and shows that not all oldschool snowboarders hate newschool skiers.

i remember i was peeping the old line site and it was linked on there somewhere... i probably saw the mike wilson / skogen sprang / eric pollard edits they had on the site from 2002 atleast a hundred times.

i found someone saying at armadaskis.com interview favourite website: newschoolers.com

at first i tought it's just another ski site, than i started watching the site bit by bit and one day i found a forum.than i went on "register" and typed in my email adress and "xtrewxfreeski"(dont know for what reason) so i started writing and here i am

a guy at my mountain asked me if i was on it, and i said no. so when i went home, i looked it up, and got hooked. funny thing is, i still havent found out his ns name...

I'm pretty sure when I was like 12 I got a Skiing Magazine from my public library. I would read them like cover to cover during the summer. One of the letter of the month's mentioned newschoolers or something saying "theres a ton of worthless, annoying shit on there...but its got some good stuff to check out". So I ahhviously had to type in newschoolers.com the next time i opened up my web browser.
